VV Needs YOU!

Ever feel bored to tears with doing the same thing over and over?
Like this kitteh above, I’m starting to yawn with boredom because it seems 99% of what I post on here are product reviews. While I like doing these, it’s getting really old to basically ONLY write that kind of post.
So I am asking YOU, dear reader, for suggestions on story ideas. I would like to venture out of the product review cycle at least a few times a week to keep things interesting.
It can be an ongoing type of theme or single story ideas. I am open! All I ask is that you don’t suggest anything overly time-consuming (something I am seriously lacking in) and no videos (again don’t have the time).
And thank you for actually coming here and reading my site. It means the world.
-Kelly

Welcome! My name is Kelly and Vampy Varnish is a animal friendly beauty blog.

Experiment! Write what you’d like to write about…pick a few different types of topics, do that for a month, then have a poll.
Or write about things you’re currently thinking about. There are so many “rant” posts happening on blogs, how about something happy? What makes you happy today?
I come to see the pictures and read some of the review…I wouldn’t mind posts that let us get to know you a little better too.
I like that, your idea would be fun.
Me too!
Yeah that does sound good.
Also like what another poster suggested – movies, recipes would be cool too.
I also like those “what are you doing today or this weekend fill-in-the-blank” posts that you put – they’re fun to read and fill out.
The “what’s in my bag” posts are funny too – reminds me of when I was a kid and was always getting into and dumping out my mom’s purse!
Shoes are always good, places to eat, television shoes, books, etc.
Or — what about like a “hodge-podge” post, like weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly about just anything that sticks out that you find online or elsewhere to share with everyone? Like just a group of stuff for example something along the lines of:
1. I was out at — and they’re having a sale at — until — on —
2. There’s this new show on — and it’s called — and it was totally haneous
3. I found this recipe on — for — so I copied and pasted it:
4. Have you seen these: pic or link
5. I found this: link on Etsy for — and thought I’d share
6. I bought or found this on Ebay and it’s so awesome I have to share:
What do you guys think? Or is there something any of you would like to share, post links, pics, etc.
I dunno – something like that if you didn’t think of it already?
oops – that was supposed to be “television shows” not “shoes” =p
I like this idea.
^ Elizabeth hit it on the nose! We come here to check out what you have to say because we like YOU, so do what YOU want:)
I would like to see current nail/fashion trends in different parts of the world (ie. Europe, Latin America, etc). I think that would be interesting!
How about color stories incorporating different objects (makeup, nail polish, everyday object, etc,) They dont require too much writing mainly a palettes of objects and prodcuts with coordinating / complementary colors, collage style almost…
I like this too.
i would love a ‘face of the day’ post or your favorite look that you wore that week or something. and there’s always tutorials, but they can be time consuming. i love comparison posts for nail polish, which are not the same as reviews and they are TREMENDOUSLY helpful to readers. i also like discussion posts, where you give your opinion on a topic on the beauty world (or whatev) and then have readers weigh in? idk just some suggestions
good luck, luv ya!
Comparison posts are *tremendously* helpful, like Kellie says. I would really appreciate those kinds of posts a lot.
I would be really interested to see HOW you use the products you use and why. For example, it took me the longest time to figure out blush, and I recently got a litlte sample of a highlighter (benefit’s highbeam) and I have NO idea how to use it. It’s not just product reviews, but how you use things, what else you use them with, what works on your face and may work well for others. It wouldn’t have to be a video, just a few pictures on how you make products work for you effectively, you know?
Hmmm … with rewiews always comes the experience, I think. So the idea that jumped into my head right now – how about doing every week something like ’5 minutes of fame for *this and this and this product*’. The numbers can be different each week, it depends on what product you’re really loving at that time. It would be completely personal post, going from body products to make up to food and clothes, saying what you like to say about the product, not what you need to say about it because you’re rewieving it. You know, only “this rocks” would do in this post.
If you think it’s still too review-ish I would also love to read something like a column on your point of view in ever changing beauty industry. Is the duping of colours just now getting so often or we, rookies, just haven’t noticed it before and about the quality of products and so on. You get through your blog a large chunk of make up so I think this would be a fantastic reading, from someone who really knows the stuff.
Third idea – random favourite photo of the week, of anything that’s around you. I love your photos!
How I’m at least a bit useful.
I love your blog, so I’d hate to see you getting sick of it.
*Hope I’m at least bit useful. I apologize, I haven’t seen the mistake before.
Current favorites. Such as band or song, tv show, movies, books, clothing, hair stuff.
Secret obsessions. Guilty pleasures. Random questions you’ve wanted to ask people.
You should do inspired make-up looks like inspired by your favorite artwork, flower, food, song, car, chair, table, shirt something random like that take a picture of your inspiration and the look you’ve created and maybe the products you’ve used and I think that would be very non-boring for you and your readers/viewers.
I also would be interested to see how people store their everyday makeup at home…like a bag, how is organized, is it a case, etc. Same thing could be done with the way people store makeup in their purse and what are the essentials that they are taking with them. Maybe people could post to a flicker group or something to get more people involved.
I would also like to see full make-up done with drugstore brands. I love seeing the Wet N Wild stuff you’ve been posting, but would like to see more. I’m always afraid to do drugstore stuff because you can’t try the shade first. What are some of your readers favorite drugstore finds.
Thanks for asking!!
could you do more nail polish dupe alert type posts and save us V V-followers a dollars to 2. thanks for being open for suggestions
Hhhmmmm….. It’s difficult to tell… You could write about things you like, paintings, architecture, if you have a good taste for furniture you could give us advises on for example ‘how to re-modern my living room while saving space….’
Personally I like to read about crafts and cooking. You could share with us readers some recipes and eventually we can in turn write about variations of the same recipe. (I’d love to know how you make your arctchokes’ dip!!)
Then, like other people already said, I’d like to know more about you. tell us some crazy episodes that happened to you, like when you spent more than 1 hour looking for a public toilet. That was such fun!!!
Most people do outfit posts or movie reviews and stuff like that or try recipes.
The this I would love for someone to do it like nail polish tests, like how long each brand lasts before it chips or fades. I havent seen a blog that has done that yet, and id love to see it done
I agree with Elizabeth, I read your blog because of your opinions. Write about what you are passionate about. I would like to know what inspired you to start this blog? What started your love for polish? Overall I would like to hear more about you. Hope that helps.
Hi Lissette,
Most of that is actually on my “About” page!
Oops I forgot to add this to my comment. How about a dos and don’ts with nail polish and makeup. And examples of them.
You could expand on your nail polish comparisons and maybe do some shadow or blush or other makeup comparisons of dupes you may have in your collection. Also since your a WnW ambassador you could see what wet n wild products you have that you could compare with the higher end makeup in your collection so its like a high end vs more affordable product posts. Than could be fun!
I’d love to hear something on how to decide what colors look best with what skin tone. I’d also like to see your “all time favorites” for both nail polish and makeup items!
Love your site, but never commented before. Here’s my opinion (for what it’s worth) -
Because the bulk of the site content is product reviews, the type of beauty you write about is mostly superficial. Why not begin to explore the depth behind the definition of what beauty is? Tell us about where or how you spotted some atypical beauty during a typical day. You touch on this in the personal photo posts. I think everyone who’s a pretty dedicated reader knows you see beauty in nature; so where else? It could be a stream of consciousness post. It wouldn’t take a whole lot of time to just tell about what you see and maybe it could encourage others to keep an eye out for the flashes of beauty that happen in their own lives. ‘Cause let’s face it – without beauty life gets pretty mundane
I suggest COTD – - cat of the day! (Put an open tube of lipstick or pan of blush in front of themI!) I never tire of your photos – - you’re quite good at it. But I’ll keep trying to think of stuff – -
Hi Leigh,
I do post cat photos almost daily under my Personal tab!
I say, whatever piques YOUR interest. What do YOU wonder about or want to know about? If it interests you, it will probably interest us. Do you want to do investigative/interview type posts? Talking to designers and CEO’s about their inspirations and plans? You have an obvious talent for color and design- does that carry over to your decor and wardrobe? Do you feel like sharing those things? You have opened my eyes to some of the BEST stuff (not just polish or makeup)- seriously, I could not live without my Z Palettes now, and I lust after the Ikea Alex…
Plus, we love to hear about you and your thoughts.
As for a specific item we’d love to see you cover- here’s one thing I often wonder about: What inspires the polish designers to use the colors that they do for each season? (I always doubt that the name of the collection is the actual inspiration…)
(If so, I want that job!)
I know that fashion houses decide on a palette of Pantone colors on which to base their designs far ahead of each season – so do nail companies use that same palette? And who exactly IS it that decides what colors will be used? Who is so lucky that they get to pick the “cool colors”? Is there a “world color czar”? LOL
I’ve just always thought that it is SO interesting that many nail polish companies all come out with similar colors at the same time, and that they always coincide with makeup and fashion colors for the same period. That’s gotta be some evil-genius-marketing plan…
Well, for one the reviews aren’t boring at all!!! But, I kinda understand feeling bored of doing the same thing over again…I dunno I guess I can suggest doing more pet posts, and as I browsed through your site I saw somewhere that you had written that you love to read, maybe you can do some book reviews in your personal section?? I know the whole staying within your blogging niche is what every blog experts suggests, but I think branching out can be a fun way to bring something different and show your other interests as well..
What if you did suggestion posts? Like… the stuff you have found that would probably look best on redheads. Or foundation that won’t make people with freckles look like they have muddy freckles instead of the cute natural ones that should shine through (a problem I have… right now I can only use tinted moisturizer). How to wear yellow nail polish so you don’t look like you have yellowed, gross nails. Stuff that you only learn by being a seasoned beauty blogger!
First let me say I love what you do so anything you come up with I’ll read:) I’d love to see groups of colors like favorite red nail polishes. I loved your purple lipsticks post. And I love when you compare two similar nail colors. And your kitty pics always make me smile don’t ever stop those:)
I would like to see more of your photography. Especially your ‘door’ collections. And a write up on what you liked about it, what you know about it, etc.
Comparisons are interesting, as well. However, your writing style flows so wonderfully, that anything you can write about is sure to please your many readers.
No matter what vein you decide to go with, I’m looking forward to seeing more of your creativity.
Kittehs! And rants if you like.
It’s the “misery loves company thing”. I always feel better when I see others get upset at the same things that tick me off.
I don’t know if you’ve done any of these before (apologies if you have!) but I always find posts like “things I thought I’d love, but don’t,” and vice versa, very interesting. Some people also suggested all-time favorites and storage posts – I’d put my vote in for those too!
In the short time I have been following you, I have noticed your wonderful sense of humor, love of your cats and make up. Maybe you could write stories of your cats’ every day lives. Maybe incorporate make up into their lives.
Well, I saw that you like photography. Maybe something to do with that. Some favorite photos and why they are special to you. Is it how it looks, meaningful subject, reminds you of special time/ place, or take special skill to capture!
What about a makeup/nail advice column? Readers ask questions and once a week or so you can post answers to the questions you find most interesting/relevant?
i like this idea!
this may be too similar to product reviews, but what about describing your favorite brands for nail polish, cosmetics (could split into different categories), and bath products? you can say why you like them, your certain favorite products within the brand, and other brands you’d like to try.
Book and or Movie Reviews, please, please, please!
I found out about the Hunger Game series because of you.
2nd. I would love to see you review movies that resonated with you or about movies you think we need to see! I rarely have time to keep up with films these days, and I appreciate your recommendations. I also read the Hunger Games trilogy thanks to you!
I enjoy coming here for makeup reviews, so I’d be disappointed to see this turn into some random blog of makeup/book reviews/cats/crafts. Some how-tos, best products, daily makeup looks, skin care, and color trends could mix it up without losing that main focus.
Hi Sally,
This will always be a cosmetics blog, no need to worry about it turning into anything else though I might post on other things from time to time!
Hi VV, I stumbled across this post, and apologize if you have already done one similar. I know you experiment with all different kinds, qualities, prices, etc of lip color. I love pale pale pink lip color. My favorite is mac’s underage lip glass or their cremesheen glass in fashion scoop. My question is have you ever found any pale pink lip colors that do not make your teeth look yellow, as per most give that effect (and I am an avid teeth whitener).
