Nubar The Painted Nail Collection Nail Lacquer Swatches

I am pretty sure you’ve heard by now that there is a new reality show about a nail salon called The Painted Nail on the TV Guide channel. I haven’t seen the show myself because I don’t get that channel in HD (HD snob here) and I don’t really watch reality TV much.
In conjunction with the show Nubar released a collection of polish printed with “The Painted Nail” logo on them. There are about 24 colors in the collection that go from sheer pale colors, to deep sparkly ones.
I haven’t reviewed a new Nubar collection in a long time and had kind of forgotten how fabulous their formula is.

Love My Loubys, Legendary Lavender

Love My Loubys
Love My Loubys is a bright super shiny cherry red creme. It’s very cool-toned and blue-based. WOW. I mean yes, it’s a red creme and who doesn’t have 12 zillion of them already? I know I do but this is just so shiny and pretty. The formula was MADNESS – so smooth and easy to apply. This was two coats and complete perfection. Color me impressed for a red creme!

Legendary Lavender
Legendary Lavender is a medium/deep purple with lavender, blue and pink sparkles. Ironically this was the one I expected to like more, but I liked less. The formula was good, but not as good as Love My Loubys. It was thicker and did give me some cuticle drag because I didn’t wait long enough in-between coats. It also required three coats to get it as rich as I wanted. Still a very pretty color though.
Overall:
These two were great but I would really like to see some more of the unusual green and yellow colors they have like Mestiza, Fairy Wings, Beware Of You, H-Bomb, Get Hatched and Golden Egg.
Availability: You can find them here
Pricing: $12.50 each
What do you think about these two colors?

The colors are pretty, but look a lot like ones you can already get. Plus the prices are a bit much to pay, since you know you’re paying an extra $5 for Nubar just because they’re from a salon & they have a show. However, I’ve wanted an opaque shimmering white glitter polish for a long time and it looks like Moon Drops fits the bill nicely.
I love the red SO much! The purple just looks “eh” to me. I have yet to try any Nubar polish and I’ve got tons of brands…..On another note, finally, someone else who doesn’t watch/love many reality shows! I thought I was the only one.
That red is really spectacular! Shame the price is higher than usual. I’d love to see the whole collection swatched before I’d buy them. I don’t think I’d buy them unless there was something different.
I just ordered my very first Nubar, but it was the ‘must have’— 2010. I like these, but I don’t know that I NEED them.
Love my Loubys is fantastic. Is this collection a limited edition?
Hi JenMei,
Hmm good question. I am not really sure at this point, will see if I can find out!
They are pretty. The purple one reminds me of Senorita Bonita by China Glaze, although that one has gold glitter that this one doesn’t have.
I got OMG Gorgeous and Moon Drops and they are both pretty awesome, as well. I love that red!
I know what you mean by being wowed unexpectedly by a red-creme polish. Think it was called Sensual Red…but there was a red Nubar polish I tried that blew my mind – smooth application and super shiny. Normally I’m not crazy about reds, but that one was amazing!
these colors are nothing special. i would like to see swatches of beware of you and fairy wings though.
Red is probably my least worn color, but this red blew me away- it’s gorgeous! I never thought I would like a red creme better than a purple shimmer but I definitely do! I’m not sure I would pay $12.50 for these, but that red is tempting.
Love the purple!
Believe me you’re not missing out on the show. It’s actually really bad.
No talk of nails at all, and it’s not like her salon is just nails anyway~~
The colors are nice, although I’m parital to purple.
I’m not a red person but… I love that red.
That show is something else. I usually can pretty much watch anything but that show….I can’t do it. If only they would show close ups of the nails…but they don’t. If they did I could watch.
I love the red!
Both are pretty. I am a Nubar fan of late, I got hooked in with a few hand picked shades ordered off eBay from a good seller I know in the Los Angeles area who uses Nubar along exclusively in his shop. I did note these specialty Nubars for the Pretty Nail are more pricy than the regular Nubar line. I am wondering if the formulation is any different or it’s just the fact the attention the TV Guide Channel TV show would pull in that Nubar expected they could get more $ per bottle to recoup on the fact they needed to run new bottle printing on the bottle blanks and all that separate warehousing etc involved with a new line inside a line.
I have the entire Risque Reds collection 8 bottles in a collection for $30 plus pretty cheap postage from the eBay seller in the LA area I used to purchase since direct purchase from Nubar was far more and tons for shipping – they need to take a lesson from Zoya on shipping costs! There is one cream red that looks like it might be similar but not a dupe for this one here you have shown us in the risque reds set called Sensual Red. ‘love…” here looks like it’s more or an orange-red on my screen settings. I don’t think my eBay seller has access to the Pretty Nail line – that is supposed to be exclusive for sale at the Pretty Nail salon which is a big mistake if that is the case and should be sold on the Nubar web site as well so they can combo ship with other regular Nubar line shades and gain more fans.
Nubar is known for one of the better top clear coats called Diamonte (I think I have that name right or close without going to look for my bottle) Beware however, I read they had a # of bad batches out there and i think my last bottle is from that bad batch – it is thin (as in watery) and does not give a hard shell finish like I want from a top coat. Also, it dulls pretty fast and needs a new coat in 2 days. I am spoiled by my SV I have to say – but older bottles of Nubar’s top coat have been fab in the past.
Of worthy mention here is to direct folks interested in ordering Nubar – to take a look at Nubar 2010. it’s a topper coat that can be worn alone and it’s like none other you have ever seen. It overlays in a major glassy fleck manner that almost spreads out the glass fleck like it was gold leaf. It’s outstanding over darker colors – reds – and shades you might never think it would look good with. Every major collector needs a bottle or 2 of Nubar 2010. There is nothing like it out there.
So…I want the red – not excited about the glitter purple here at all…but I love reds – have like your – tons of them – more reds than any other color in my stash now. I never get tired of them. So thanks – now you turned me on to a red that I really want and probably won’t be able to get my hands on it in any way! I was at the Pretty Nail web site a # of weeks ago – nothing jumped out at me for shades I had major lemming for. But now seeing this red – I NEED it! But probably won’t get it because of it’s difficulty to get and postage costs. Thanks for the great descriptions…curious that you said you want this red – did not not get it for yourself to do this PR on?
Fairy Wings is a great name!!
I actually like the show, at least owner & her husband & dog. They’re super cute. But these colors don’t wow me! I’d be interested in seeing the other colors from the collection, however, they look like they may be more my style.
They are both very nice colors! Definitely great additions to my collection
I love both those colours. The purple is especially nice but it looks better in the bottle than on the nail – so annoying when that happens!
I finally got to see about 5 episodes of the Nail Files on TV Guide channel today. I was doing some sit and clean out stuff so turned on the TV – not much on – channel surfing landed me on a bevy of previously show Nail File shows. She is wacky, but seems to have a really good heart (best one can tell on any reality show). But as a major backdrop all around the camera shots is this red shade of polish that Nubar makes for her. With all the reds I have I am now obsessed to get my hands on this fab red cream! But of course without ordering it from her and having to pay the shipping and tax for one little bottle – though she has 3 shades I would be interested in adding to my collection. Too bad that when I am in the LA area – I am never on the West side…it would be cheaper for me to pay to have them shipped than pay the gas and fight the traffic to get to her shop to make a purchase!
I like the red, but wouldn’t order either of these. I’ve heard great things about Nubar, but my experience with two of their polishes so far have been majorly disappointing (one didn’t look as holographic on as it did in the bottle – the glitter sort of got buried – and one sparkle was an epic fail). Maybe I need to break into the bottle of 2010…
Nubar is fantaaaaastic. Earth, Palisade, and Reclaim are by far the polishes I wear the most, out of a collection of ~100. The formula is generally great, and I’ve ever come cross a color that’s meant to be opaque that required more than two coats — many are opaque in ONE (great, as that lets me do a top accent / glitter coat – thick polish is peeltastic on me). Fully half my Zoya polishes need 3 coats or more for opacity, so despite Zoya’s maybe bigger range, Nubar is my go-to.
2010 is indeed spectacular re: dazzling accent/top coat colors — if that’s your thing, also check out Antiquity Silver, a fairly dense metallic flakie with a dull patina metal effect.
