China Glaze Metro Collection for Fall 2011 Swatches, Photos & Review – Part II

Here we are with China Glaze Metro part II.
China Glaze Metro is the new 12 piece nail collection for fall 2011. It’s inspired by city loving celebrities and spans quite a range of colors and finishes.
Metro is divided into two mini collections called Uptown and Downtown (Uptown includes CG In The City, Urban-Night, Traffic Jam, City Siren and Street Chic and Brownstone and Downtown includes Skyscraper, Concrete Catwalk, Westside Warrior, Trendsetter, Loft-y Ambitions and Midtown Magic). I decided to post my swatches in a different order though.
-
Skyscraper: A sparkling, glitter blue reminiscent of the sky over the city.
-
CG in the City: Glittering dusty purple, bronze and silver multi-tonal glitter, perfect for a pop of edge from West side to East side.
-
Urban-Night: Exactly what you need for a night on the town – rich purple crème.
-
Loft-y Ambitions: Burgundy shimmer and cocktail hour – nothing better.
-
Brownstone: Burnt terracotta crème mirrors the quaint townhouses of the city.
-
Midtown Magic: Burgundy base with flecks of gold shimmer captures the latest fashion trend.

Urban-Night, Brownstone, Loft-Y Ambitions

Midtown Magic, CG In The City, Skyscraper

Urban-Night
Urban-Night is a warm-toned eggplant purple creme. It’s really quite a gorgeous and shiny dark purple and I am happy it’s not royal, which would be more predictable. Perhaps it’s not all THAT exciting, but still a really nice fall color. The formula was a little patchy so I needed three coats.

Brownstone
Brownstone is a terracotta brown creme. Obviously this has a lot of burnt orange/red to it and it’s very warm and kind of cozy somehow. Another good fall color. The formula was great, just needed two coats.

Loft-Y Ambitions
Loft-Y Ambitions is a burgundy with pink and silvery shimmer. I like that they added the shimmer, otherwise I think it would have been a very plain color. This gives it a nice velvety depth. Great formula, just two coats.

Midtown Magic
Midtown Magic is a deep, dark blackened brown base LOADED with glowing red, gold and green shimmer. I have nothing like this. This color is totally amazing. It’s super dark, yet the shimmer makes it look lit-from-within. It’s just perfection. The formula is really amazing, just two coats is all you need.

CG In The City
CG In The City is a clear base with purple, bronze, silver and gold micro-glitter. I’ll be honest, I much prefer this kind of glitter layered. It having no base color just isn’t wearable on it’s own to me, but it would look great over a dark color. There is a lot of glitter in there, which is good. This was three coats.

Skyscraper
Skyscraper is a medium blue base with blue and silver glitter. Now THIS is a glitter I can get behind! Super sparkly and it looks like the sky. The formula wasn’t overly thick or hard to apply either. This was three coats to get the base as dark as possible. Love it.
Overall:
As with the first half I showed, there are some here I love and some I could pass on. The must-haves are Midtown Magic and Skyscraper. Urban-Night also is a really great one.
For me out of the 12 piece collection, just half of them were super unique. The others were nice, but seemed more like staple-colors rather than anything very interesting. I like it when China Glaze keeps us guessing with the “weirder” colors like Trendsetter and Midtown Magic, rather than pink, red and berry colored cremes.
Availability: July
Pricing: $3-6
Which of these hits the nail on the head for you?

Skyscraper, I want it. I’m a little disappointed in CG in the City, but I think I would like it over a darker color so I may still check it out!
My fave here is Urban Night, but I think I already own something similar…..
Maybe Loft-y Ambitions
Midtown Magic … beautiful.
ditto!!!
Thanks for swatching! Do you know how brownstone compares to “opi i m suzie and i ‘ m a chocoholic”? I own the opi and would love to know if I can at least skip one…
Midtown Magic and Skyscraper are my favorites in this bunch. I like Loft-Y Ambitions better than I thought I would. CG in the City was disappointing for me, as well. Urban Night and Brownstone are nice, but nothing groundbreaking. Overall, I think my purchase will definitely be Trendsetter, very likely Midtown Magic, and probably Skyscraper. Thank you SO MUCH for the swatches! Both in one day was a treat!
Midtown magic!!!
Midtown Magic is super pretty. So that’s three out of this collection I’ll be getting.
Great swatches.
Is Brownstone anything like MAC Dance?
There are too many I want from this collection!
Hi Rayanna,
Do you mean Dance All Night? If so, nope that’s a deep red creme.
Oh yes sorry! I meant Dance All Night. Thanks!
Must have Skyscraper!!!
Ok it’s official I love every single color in the swatches of Part 2. Midtown Magic and Urban Night being my favorites
I’m all about the Midtown Magic!
How does “Skyscraper” compare to “Dorothy Who?”, just curious because I will be picking up every color in this collection and I already have Dorothy Who…?
Hi Ashlyn,
Dorothy Who? is a much brighter and lighter blue. Skyscraper is darker and has much more purple in it.
Midtown Magic and Skyscraper are my must haves here, and even though I thought I was bored to death with purples, Urban-Night is quite visually arresting…
I am ALLLLLLLLL over those glitter polishes. The colors in Midtown Magic aren’t even my thing, but I NEED it. It’s gonna look horrendous with my hair, BUT I DON’T CARE.
I love about 3/4th of these. I usually don’t care for the darker colors of fall as I prefer obnoxious, in your face colors, but I’ve really fallen in love with this collection. It’s my favorite from China Glaze in a long time!
I expected so much more from this collection. Only Midtown magic appeals to me from this half, and frankly, it’s nothing to die for, at least I won’t. Maybe I expected too much and now I feel disappoited over decent colours, you know what I mean? Sometimes I get like that.
Urban-Night is like the perfect purple *.*
Urban Night & Midtown Magic ALL THE WAY! Midtown magic sounds like midnight watching the traffic lights change colors, I can’t wait to try her! Thank you for the amazing explanations and swatches:)
I need Midtown Magic – stunning!! I wore CG in the City over a lavender polish and it was beautiful. I don’t like it on its own but to layer it makes it gorgeous.
All but Brownstone. Brown polish gives me lobster claws, so it is a no for me.
I really want Midtown Magic and Skyscraper! They’re so pretty, but Midtown Magic is amazing. I’ve never seen any nail polish like it before. I love Skyscraper because it’s sparkly and it does remind me of stars too. I’m really into blue polishes that remind me of starry skies. The other colors are nice too but cremes don’t always really excite me all that much.
I’m definitely getting Concrete Catwalk, Urban Night and Midtown Magic! But I love this collection in overall, really lovely fall shades I think
Midtown Magic…the break-out color from this collection. I bet I should get more than one bottle…..
Gorgeous swatches. I don’t see as many colors in this set that I want as with your last set. Besides Midtown Magic, I see Urban-Night and Brownstone are the gotta-gets.
Loft-y Ambitions reminds me of Chanel Vamp a bit, maybe, a lighter version of it?
Kelly, I just looked at both sets of swatches and I love your photos! I think I am in dead agreement with you about the must haves. I do need a few staples, so I might pick up more of these than I originally planned. You did a great job with these!
I’m curious, is Skyscraper kind of like the two glitters from the Christmas collection? (Not in color, obviously, but you know how Mrs. Claus and Mistletoe Kisses had that silvery, sparkly glitter in their mix?)
Urban Night and Midtown Magic are my favorites. I like this collection.
Thanks for the swatches! I love Midtown Magic and Skyscraper the most! They look totally unique to me. You take great pictures!
Midtown Magic is pretty cool. I’m guessing they’re aiming for a $OPI 212/SH Midnight in NY look.
And Urban Night, I’d totally wear that if it’s not too close to their dark purple from Christmas last year.
OMG Midtown Magic is amazing! I really like Brownstone and Skyscraper as well
I’m thinking that Urban Night looks suspiciously like CG VII and I’d love to see them compared. The rest are just ok to me, nice but not really calling me.
Eeeeeee! Now I really am glad I ordered the entire collection. Gorgeous polishes in this part too… especially Midtown Magic and Urban Night.
Loft-Y Ambitions & Midtown Magic = YES
oh my, they look gorgeous! The glitter, the dark brown, the purple. I need them. Oh and I love the In the City glitter – it’s so mysterious.
Oh no (!) I thought I didn’t need many from this collection, maybe 2, but now I need at least 5. Trendsetter
Westside Warrior
City Siren
Midtown Magic
Skyscraper
Oh shoot!
Definitely Skyscraper and Midnight Magic (WOW) and for some reason, Brownstone, I’ll have to see it in person, but I keep looking at your photos and to me, it has that Vintage 1940′s look or am I just out of it today – LOL! Lovely swatches!
China Glaze do the best fall collections..Every year I find myself wanting every single color
