NYX Round Lipsticks – New Shades for Summer 2011 Swatches, Photos & Review
NYX Makeup has 24 new shades of their popular “Round Lipstick” out for summer 2011!
There are 144 shades in all (wow) in a wide variety of colors and they promise to be velvety-textured with long lasting, moisturizing benefits.
This is my first experience with these lipsticks and since I have been testing them out for a week, I like what I see. Mostly…
They come in standard round lipstick tubes which show the color through the bottom, which I like. The one thing I don’t like is they definitely feel like inexpensive containers. The lipsticks tend to wobble around a bit inside the tube, which I don’t love. But that’s a small thing really.

- Hot Pink is a bubblegum pink creme. Really nice blue-based color, not overly bright but with a good “pop”.
- Chic Red is a deep and classic cool-toned red creme. Of these 5 colors, this was the most pigmented and creamiest feeling.
- Shiva is a bright warm-toned fuchsia pink with blue shimmery cast. Very nice color, I love this one!
- Peach Bellini is a medium peachy/coral color. I love the color because it’s not too warm, perfect for fair-skinned gals like myself.
- Pink Lyric is a medium pink creme, very wearable. It’s similar to Hot Pink but slightly deeper and a little less cool-toned.
As far as the formula it varies. I found Chic Red and Shiva to be the most pigmented and creamiest formulas by far. Hot Pink, Peach Bellini and Pink Lyric all suffered from “drag marks” meaning you could see each swipe of the lipstick across my lips when I applied it. Also they were not as opaque. This is the main issue I have with these colors, I wish they were creamier and more saturated.
When it comes to moisturizing I give these a 5 out of 10. That’s also taking into consideration that I have extremely dry lips and almost ALL lipsticks make me feel dry and puckered after a couple hours. I have been wearing these under my new cannot live without it product, MAC Prep & Prime Lip – more on that in another post, and they have been feeling pretty good. The colors last about 3 hours before the inner rim needs a little touch-up. Not too shabby.

For the price of these, I think they are really nice colors. I didn’t love the formula of some of them, but Chic Red and Shiva were very nice.

That’s awesome about the MAC lippie primer. I’ve used the Too Faced one, but you probably wouldn’t like it if you have dry lips. It’s like SUPER mattifying.

I really like a few of these, but I TOLD myself I wasn’t going to buy anymore NYX after that debacle a month ago or so. I’m still not too keen on supporting them right now, but I’ll probably get over it eventually, haha.

Shiva and Peach Bellini look as if they may work for me. It is a rare occurrence when I find a lipstick that actually looks good on me. I also have very dry lips. Products others find moisturising dry my lips out fast and painfully. *sigh* But I am tempted to try these.

My faves here are Shiva and peach Bellini. If the sites you mentioned above ship to Europe I think I’m gonna buy them.
They look decent enough, but after the debacle of that sale I can’t bring myself to support them.
Oh well, there are always other drug-store brands!
I own quite a few NYX lipsticks. The pale shades with creme finishes typically leave the drag marks you mentioned, as well as settling into lines. Lip liner or using a darker shade for a gradient effect nixes (PUN!) the effect. I found the lipsticks to be fairly moisturizing though. The lipsticks with metallic, pearl, and frost finishes apply flawlessly. Hot Pink looks cute.

Have you tried their cream blushes? They’re pretty good.
That peach one is calling my name. I ordered a bunch of colorful NYX for my daughter from cherryculture and it arrived quickly, with free shipping (on $40 US delivery) and they threw in a bonus cherry chapstick. I’d recommend ordering from them instead.
I’m not really a lipstick person but Shiva is too pretty to pass up, especially at $4.

My biggest issue with these is the taste/scent; it’s like I’m wearing soap on my lips! I honestly can’t wear them because they taste so awful. It’s really a shame.
Shiva reminds me of opi’s Far East Fuschia nail polish. Which is on my toes right now. =)
