Josie Maran Argan Eye Shadow in Beach & Bali Swatches, Photos & Review

Josie Maran is not only a model from a Northern California town near me, she also has a line of really nice, eco-responsible cosmetics.
Argan Oil is featured heavily in a lot of her products because it’s a natural, organic and chemical-free, which fits Josie’s lifestyle AND smells amazing!
Her line of eye shadows come in twenty-five colors and finishes. The colors contain no chemicals, parabens or fragrances. They are also cruelty-free, toxin free and recyclable. The packages are biodegradable even!

Beach, Bali
Beach is a shimmery pale sand color
Bali is a bright blue teal with yellow shimmer
These shadows are extremely soft to the touch and have really nice pigmentation. You can use them either dry (which these swatches are) or wet for more depth.
I love the way these two colors look together actually. You could create a really nice beachy look with these two!
Overall:
This was my first experience with a product from Josie Maran and I am definitely happy with the shadows and interested to try more of her line out. These lived up to what they promised, they are velvety, pigmented and easy to blend.
Availability: Sephora and her website
Pricing: They are on the more expensive side at $20.00 each, but I think if the color is really special and they are made with this much responsibility, it’s worth it for me.
What do you think about these? Have you tried any Josie Maran products?

I have been hesitant to try anything from Josie Maran because I already use 100% argan oil… but now I know the next time I am at Sephora I WILL pick up those shadows!
These colors are really gorgeous. But for some reason I rarely buy single eyeshadows; I just prefer palettes. But maybe I’ll pick a few up when Sephora has their next F&F sale. I’m a sucker for a sale; my boyfriend always says I’ll buy anything if it’s on sale. Haha.
Embrace is a really pretty copper shadow, especially for blue eyes. That’s the only JM shadow I’ve tried but I was impressed.
colors are nice but not very special I think
Yes. Love her Matchmaker foundation. Excited to try other products
I always love this kind of color combination, reminds me of beach vacations (I guess these shadows are appropriately named
). I’m sure I have colors close enough to these, but if I ever ‘hit pan’ on any of them, I’d consider these.
Oh, thought you’d be interested to know that I *just* got the Tokidoki Mozzarella eye palette. I’ve been thinking about it ever since you reviewed it months ago, finally broke down and bought it and it arrived today, so adorable!
I have quite a few JM products. The only one that did not make it in my stash were her lip staining pens. They are dry out, hard to get the color off them. But love her volumnizing lip goss (the larger looking gloss vs the regular one that came out first in the more squared off tube). It does not dry my lips out and most every gloss out there does. I have a couple eye shadows – nice but I tend to still go to my UD’s and my TARTE eye shadows most. The Aragon oil is very good, but I am liking the results from 2 other oils I use – TARTE Maracuja Oil works better on my facial skin (too precious for me to give up to using it on my body – and WEN body/hair oils that do amazing things for my hair when left on over night. All in all, I am watching what comes out from the JM line. She has some good things.
I am curious about her eye cream…it comes together with day and night formulas. It’s $65 or so, which makes me a bit hesitant. I also kind of wanted to try her matching foundation, but when I tried it at Sephora it turned super orange. Maybe it levels out after that? I’m still overall interested in her line, though.
Love the colors you swatched, my favorite for summer. Nice packaging also: luxurious and retró…
i hate when companies claim their product is “chemical-free”. Whay does that mean exactly? It contains no matter of any kind? Sorry, just a pet peave of mine! Are the ingredients listed?
Hi Jess,
I think on her website they are listed.
“Beach” looks a lot like Urban Decay’s Maui Wowie eyeshadow without the fallout/glitter. I love the color of MW, but the glitter sucks! Maybe I’ll look into this as an alternative:)
Hi Kelly, Thank you so much for reviewing these. I’ve been curious about her products and I love these colors. Keep up the great work!
I think these are gorgeous
