China Glaze Midnight Ride vs. BB Couture Bandito – Reader Request!
Today I’ve got a deep purple nail comparison for ya: China Glaze Midnight Ride vs. BB Couture Bandito.
Both of these are really deep shimmery purples, but are they dupes or just similar?

Obviously as you can see these are a lot of similarities between these two colors.
China Glaze Midnight Ride, which came out in 2008 in one of my favorite collections ever (Rodeo Diva) is a very deep eggplant purple shimmer with blackened edges.
BB Couture Bandito came out in their Wild West (for men) collection earlier this year. Bandito is also a very dark eggplant purple shimmer with a blackened edge.
Both colors cover very nicely in two coats. Both have a really great consistency. There are very slight differences though.

You can see the differences better in the photo above.
Midnight Ride is a little less eggplant and a little more royal purple than Bandito is.
Also Bandito doesn’t have the pink and blue shimmer specks that Midnight Ride has, rather it seems to be more just purple specks.
I think that Bandito is slightly more blackened around the edges than Midnight Ride, though it’s a very slight difference.
Verdict:
While these colors are extremely similar, I wouldn’t classify them as dupes. I don’t think that they are different enough to warrant getting both though unless you are a serious purple polish person. The differences are subtle and it takes looking pretty closely to really see the differences.
Winner:
I prefer Midnight Ride just a little over Bandito because I like the purple base a bit more.

I like the CG because there are more glass flecks coming out of it – might just be my monitor/the photos. From the descriptions I would think I would like the BB best as I tend to like more eggplant vs a brighter royal purple! For myself, they are so close, I would not want both in my collection. Thanks for the comparison!

Ride seems to have greater richness/depth. So CG wins this for me.

I’m with you – also prefer China Glaze Midnight Ride. The BB Couture one is pretty, too, but I like the pink and blue shimmer in Midnight Ride. Gives it that extra something.

Hi VV, thank you for this comparison. I don’t own nor Midnight Ride neither Bandito yet, because I don’t like to have dupes in my collection and I didn’t know which one I could prefer. Now that I saw your swatches I can say I like MR more, but being a dark-purple-lover I’ll end up bying both anyway !!! (and you didn’t classify them as dupes after all

From the photos, I definitely think I prefer Midnight Ride by CG. I’m a purple polish fiend, so I like them both, but there’s something about Midnight Ride that makes it more of a winner to me. The purple base, the pink/blue glass flecks… it’s gorgeous!

Nice comparison. I agree that I like Midnight Ride better. The pink shimmer adds some depth, but they are both gorge! You must have a great camera to be able to capture these differences!! Thanks!

I prefer Midnight Ride. I like the shimmer specks more, but otherwise they are very similar.
They’re both gorgeous, and I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on either of them, but I’d have to say Midnight Ride because it looks just slightly more interesting.
