a-england The Mythicals Nail Varnish Collection Swatches, Photos & Review

a england a england The Mythicals Nail Varnish Collection Swatches, Photos & Review

a england is a somewhat new nail varnish brand from creator Adina Bodana.

Adina grew up in Italy but moved to London in the late 1980′s. She was originally in the fashion world, but had been painting her nails since she was a little girl and wound up creating her own brand. You can definitely tell that the colors Adina puts out are done out of serious love for nail varnish, color and quality.

The nail varnish line is called The Mythicals and all the names correspond to mythical figures from long-ago in England. Give me a “theme” especially if it’s got to to with anything old or British and I. AM. THERE!  The great thing about this theme, is that there is some seriously amazing varnish behind it, and it’s not just a gimmick.

The collection currently has 15 colors as well as a base coat and top coat.

The formula was really amazing with all four colors I tested. They are thick, but not in a bad way and they apply like a dream. In fact, Tristam and Lady Of The Lake almost apply themselves they are so fabulous. All four were just two coats.

Perceval

Perceval

“Perceval The Guileless Knight: The elect one to witness the Grail for the first time and one of the heroes of its quest. A simple, innocent man, alone in the world who accidentally meets a group of the King’s knights and decides to become one of them.”

Perceval is a shimmering, deep, yet bright ruby red that GLOWS. Indeed, this is one of those lit-from-within colors and it’s truly a stunning color. I love the slightly darkened edges. It’s just the kind of red I adore.

Avalon

Avalon

“Avalon The Mythic Paradise: The idyllic isle, healing place of eternal beauty and otherworldly mystery and the final resting place of Arthur.”

Avalon is a bright royal purple with pink and blue shimmery particles. This one also looks like it glows, it’s totally gorgeous! It’s one of those colors when you paint your nails you are constantly staring at them because it’s so pretty. The name is great also; I happen to be a big Mists Of Avalon fan. icon smile a england The Mythicals Nail Varnish Collection Swatches, Photos & Review

Tristam

Tristam

“Tristam The Courteous Knight: The symbol of the knightly virtue, and romantic love. When Tristam and Iseult accidentally consume a love potion, fall helplessly in love. Despite facing numerous trials to test their secret affair their love was never known to fade.”

Tristam is a deep blue packed with loads of holographic micro-glitter. It looks like a sparkly sky at night, it’s just an amazing color and I love the micro-glitter. This is my favorite way to incorporate holographic-ness (yep it’s a new word-haha) into a polish actually.

I would be remiss in mentioning this polish if I didn’t also show you a picture of Adina’s new kitten also named Tristam.

Lady Of The Lake

“Lady Of The Lake The Iconic Hand With Sword: (Foster mother of Lancelot) a woman of great magical power. She resided in the murky water of a lake, an otherworld. She presented the mythical sword Excalibur to King Arthur with her hand emerging from the water.”

Lady Of The Lake is a deep purple with holographic micro-glitter. This was the first one I tried out and I was blown away by how amazing the formula was and how mesmerizing the glitter looks, especially in sunlight. SO gorgeous!

Lady Of The Lake

This is the day after I applied it. I think it looks great with this ring and I just adore the color on me!

Overall:

Crazy, insane, perfection. I mean honestly I cannot think of anything negative to say about the polish formula or colors. They are truly great and I am a huge fan now. Perhaps the only downside is that they are on the more expensive side, but totally worth the price in my book. Adina, can we please see more of these holographic micro-glitter colors PLEASE? icon smile a england The Mythicals Nail Varnish Collection Swatches, Photos & Review

I got into these when Scrangie posted some swatches of them. They are seriously amazing, and I’m going to have to try a ton of them. Your photos are really great! Lady of the Lake is soooo your color.

  • I’m usually one who likes one or two colors in a collection but seriously, these are all gorgeous and I find myself wanting all of them. My favorite kinds of blues and purples, all colors bright, glowing, and interesting….this is the kind of polish that makes me feel not so crazy for loving polish so much.

Tristam and Lady of the Lake have been in my wish list for quite some time now.
I’ve seen a lot of swatches about these polishes but your pics are the best! You truly captured the essence of these colors.
And I agree with Fey: Lady of the Lake is perfect on you.

  • Oh dear…a whole new slew of polishes to add to my list. I’m practically drooling right now.

  • I love the A Engand polishes for all reasons there is, I’m just missing a green! I told Adina that, so if we chant high enough for green and Tristam/Lady of the Lake like holo glitters, maybe we can have both in one single bottle?! O.o <3

LOVE the 2 holos! Will definitely be purchasing. I also really like your ring, where is it from. You should do a post on jewelry :) . The kitty is ADORABLE! Is Adina your step-daughter?

    June 28, 2011
    • Hi Tamika,

The ring is from Aldo, but I got it about a year ago. Adina is the creator of the nail polish…

I totally dig the theme and I have to mention that I probably read “the Mists of Avalon” about 10 times it was probably my favorite book in high school.

    June 28, 2011
  • Wow, the color intensity of these is insane! They are gorgeous! Lady of the Lake and Tristam are my favorites. And your ring is so awesome :D

I started reading your blog recently and enjoy your reviews. I’m so glad you reviewed a-england’s polishes. I ordered a few after Scrangie’s post and really love them! I currently have Galahad, a cyan/pastel teal creme, on my toes and it’s such a lovely colour! i’m not usually good with cremes but this one applied so smoothly. It’s so pigmented that I believe I only used 2 coats. I’m really looking forward to more colours in future, including a green, as mentioned.

I’m looking @ both of them on your page and they look similar. Just wanted to know b4 I make purchase. :)
I want your ring,……..& your hard case to your iphone.

    June 28, 2011
    • Hi chris,

LOTL is a duskier slightly more muted purple base and WAT is more of a brighter grape purple.

      June 28, 2011
  • Oh, dear. Lovely polishes but it’s either Tristan or Tristram. There is no /Tristam/. Sorry to be pedantic but it just bugs me that they got it wrong.

    They really are gorgeous though…

    June 28, 2011
  • Holy cow, these are to die for!!

    June 28, 2011
  • They are a bit pricey, but for that kind of color and quality I forgive them!
Tristam and Lady of the lake are amazing, I fell in love immediately!
Little kitty Tristam is also adorable :)

    June 28, 2011

I picked up Tristam & Lady of the Lake a couple of weeks ago, couldn’t resist. Now I’m wishing I’d grabbed up Perceval as well, it’s fab!

Tristim & Percival have my eye and major lemmings going on over. What a fab deal to get free shipping from the UK if one orders the whole collection. I need to find someone here in nail land that is mad for the other 2, the purples, and we are set! Any takers? I love the way the purples look..but I don’t wear what purples I have and know I won’t wear more. Something unless it’s a blackened purple, I just feel too conspicuous with them on in my lifestyle. I have to head their site and check out the other shades. These are so well done! $28 for 2 polishes with no shipping is really good for this look/this quality.

    • Veronica

You don’t need to purchase all of them for the free shipping, even if you only buy one polish you still get free shipping.

      June 28, 2011
  • Natalie

Hmm. I loved them all in the bottles, but the actual swatches didn’t impress me that much, although they look like they’d be pretty under sunlight.

    June 28, 2011
  • I bought Tristam and Holy Grail weeks ago and have yet to try them but aaw that kitten. Now I feel obliged too.
ps I want all of them already anyway.

Oh wow! I wish I had more money for polish right now. I love the look of Tristam and Lady of the Lake. I’m a sucker for mythical themes, too.
