VV Friday Poll

VV May 27 Poll VV Friday Poll

It’s that time again and to top it off, in the US it’s a three day weekend for Memorial Day, yahoooo!

I love this cartoon above because it reminds me of me. The hair, the laptop and the airplane in the background (I work right by SFO airport). Also I love her top and glasses, but I am not that chic. icon smile VV Friday Poll

If you aren’t too busy how about joining me for a few minutes for the Friday poll?

  1. How was your week?
  2. Good – finally mostly over that cough and on vacation at Hearst Castle as we speak!

  3. What is the longest you ever waited in line for anything (tickets, an amusement park ride, post office, etc.)?
  4. I think probably 2-2 1/2 hours in line for a roller-coaster when I was in my teen and 20′s. I would NEVER do that at this point, haha!

  5. What’s on your nails?
  6. A big fat nada!

  7. Are you scared of needles?
  8. Not generally, but if there was a huge thick one going into say my spine, I would be!

  9. What book are you reading at the moment?
  10. Still the first Game of Thrones book. I really like it, just haven’t had a lot of time to read, but am about 70% finished.

  11. If you could live in a HUGE old castle for free (but with modern conveniences) would you?
  12. Y.E.S.

  13. Tell me about your favorite non-beauty related blogs:
  14. Dooce, The Pioneer Woman, Hyperbole and a Half (though she barely posts anymore), Nothing But Bonfires (local SF woman from London) and Full of Snark are my favs.

  15. If you were visiting your favorite kind of museum, what would it be (modern, natural, classic art, cartoon, car…)?
  16. I like most kinds except modern which I will NEVER “get”. My favorite is probably classic art paintings though from the Renaissance or Medieval periods.

  17. If you were to visit Italy for 2 weeks, where would you go?
  18. No really I am asking because I am planning a trip and want to get ideas. I am definitely planning on Rome, no doubt, but not positive where else. Skipping Venice for now since Mr. VV has been there.

  19. What are you doing this weekend?
  20. Moving into Hearst Castle (haha) and having fun in San Simeon!

How was your week? Freaked out a bit about the wedding, but other than that, it was fine!

What is the longest you ever waited in line for anything (tickets, an amusement park ride, post office, etc.)? When I was in high school, I waited almost 3 hours in the cold to meet Green Day (and by “meet”, I mean one of those events where they sign something for you and you have to move right along)… waste of time, lol.

What’s on your nails? I took it all off last night, but I was wearing Hard Candy Frenzy/Finger Paints All You Need Is Color on my toes, and Orly It’s Not Rocket Science/RBL Look Rich Be Cheap on my fingers… so much glitter everywhere, ugh.

Are you scared of needles? No, but I don’t necessarily like them. I have a high tolerance for pain/things like that.

What book are you reading at the moment? No books, but I’m currently reading a WellWed magazine that I picked up at Borders because of its gorgeous cover.

If you could live in a HUGE old castle for free (but with modern conveniences) would you? Sure.

Tell me about your favorite non-beauty related blogs: Fashion: J’s Everyday Fashion, the Look 4 Less, Girl With Curves, PS I Made This. Food: the Rochester Pizza Blog, World According to Eggface, Cake Wrecks, Sugar Plum Blog, love love LOVE Pioneer Woman.

If you were visiting your favorite kind of museum, what would it be (modern, natural, classic art, cartoon, car…)? I like science and classic art museums, but my favorites are the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Strong National Museum of Play here in Rochester – so much fun (even for adults)!

If you were to visit Italy for 2 weeks, where would you go? I’d love to see the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, Capri, Rome, Milan…

What are you doing this weekend? Seeing some friends from high school tomorrow night, relaxing, and going to my parents’ house on Memorial Day.

Enjoy your vacation and time off! You deserve it!

    2. What is the longest you ever waited in line for anything (tickets, an amusement park ride, post office, etc.)? I waited in line for an hour and a half for Hamlet tickets at the National Theatre in London. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

    5. What book are you reading at the moment? Genius of Shakespeare, but I’m finally almost done. I’ve been working on it all semester. Wish I was reading something for funsies.

    6. If you could live in a HUGE old castle for free (but with modern conveniences) would you? I don’t know why anyone would answer No to this. I don’t even need all the modern conveniences. Give me a big ol’ fire and some wool and I’m content.

    1. How was your week? – long long long! Thank God it’s a holiday weekend! YAY!
    2. What is the longest you ever waited in line for anything (tickets, an amusement park ride, post office, etc.)? – mmmm – there’s always something better around the corner – I will go somewhere else do something else other than wait – I don’t have patience…
    3. What’s on your nails? – Pacific Blue – Sally Hansen cheapie – never got so many compliments!
    4. Are you scared of needles? Not in the slightest…
    5. What book are you reading at the moment? Cecils Medicine
    6. If you could live in a HUGE old castle for free (but with modern conveniences) would you? uh, this is a rhetorical question right?
    7. Tell me about your favorite non-beauty related blogs: LOVE me some Pioneer Woman! And I love Dooce, too. Also Chocolate & Zucchini.
    8. If you were visiting your favorite kind of museum, what would it be (modern, natural, classic art, cartoon, car…)? Museum of Natural History – or the crazy weird ones in Paris – like the one that’s all about the brassiere – or shoes… they are fantastic.
    9. If you were to visit Italy for 2 weeks, where would you go? Ok – planning a trip Kelly – I used to be a flight attendant – try to go to Milan – spend a day or two – then take the train to Lake Como – it’s beautiful. Maybe spend one night there just b/c it’s so beautiful – but it’s very quiet at night. Romantic! Also – you should take a train to Capri – talk about stunning and beautiful… it’s fantastic. You might want to spend 3 days relaxing there… it’s gorg! And go to Tuscany for a day or two – no more – just to eat like a pig. You will LOVE Rome – and go to the neighborhoods that are outside the city – they have fantastic restaurants that are less expensive. In Rome – the food is $$$ and not so great – There’s a resto down and alley in a corner by a wall – you get the drift – called :Il Campaneria (not sure of correct spelling) – it’s a little family place and the Romans eat there… it’s delish. Also – Mozzarella Bar in Rome is always yummy – and the gelato near the parliament is the best in the city. Send me an email and I can send you more info if you like!
    10. What are you doing this weekend? Studying – 8 more weeks!!! YAY!!! Then I’m on rotations!!!

6.If you could live in a HUGE old castle for free (but with modern conveniences) would you? Yes, if I could live with other people that I get along with. No, if it’s just me by myself…because that could get a little errie and depressing.

8.If you were visiting your favorite kind of museum, what would it be (modern, natural, classic art, cartoon, car…)? Umm…this is way too easy…haha. Someone needs to get on that, and if there already is one out there, I need to know about it!
9.If you were to visit Italy for 2 weeks, where would you go? Art galleries and all of the finest restaurants…provided that I could afford the luxury.
10.What are you doing this weekend? Hanging out with 2 friends, drinking a bit, visiting my mom…nothing drastically different than last weekend.

    1. How was your week?

Productive for the most part. Cold and wet. I’m so over winter but the weather is not cooperating.

    2. What is the longest you ever waited in line for anything (tickets, an amusement park ride, post office, etc.)?

2+ hours. Opening day of “Return of the Jedi”. I was young and had more tolerance for such things then.

    3. What’s on your nails?

Hot Topic Purple with the sparkles in it and no name in the miserable tall bottle with the long stemmed brush. It’s a really pretty nail polish and is wearing like iron.

    4. Are you scared of needles?

    No.

    5. What book are you reading at the moment?

I’m not. I need to make some time to read.

    6. If you could live in a HUGE old castle for free (but with modern conveniences) would you?

Assuming someone else is going to pay the utility bills and clean the place, yes. Just because rooms are there doesn’t mean you have to use them.

    7. Tell me about your favorite non-beauty related blogs:

They’re mostly personal blogs of friends or people whose viewpoints I enjoy.

    8. If you were visiting your favorite kind of museum, what would it be (modern, natural, classic art, cartoon, car…)?

Just one? Ack. Ok, anything science based, like natural history or science and technology. I love that stuff, especially if they have hands on exhibits and there are no school field trips currently there. I LOVED the Exploratorium – I actually got to play with a Michaelson-Morely interferometer! (Yes, I’m a nerd.)

    9. If you were to visit Italy for 2 weeks, where would you go?

Rome. Capri. Venice. If there’s time, Turin.

    10. What are you doing this weekend?

Not sure yet. Given our lousy weather is coming back, probably cleaning and straightening indoors. Cooking a mini-feast for Memorial Day (steak, deviled eggs, corn on the cob).

    3. What’s on your nails?

…yes. that castle that mr. darcy lived in the movie Pride & Prejudice (Keira version) at Pemberly. it’s the one she smirked at unexpectedly as she was unloading the carriage and seeing it for the first time.

    7. Tell me about your favorite non-beauty related blogs:
…bodyrock.tv…want to lose fat quick? trade in your long, traditional cardio for these short, tough, fat burnin’ intervals. it’s not for the faint of heart though, be careful. i bodyrock about three times a week along with my weight training regime.

    8. If you were visiting your favorite kind of museum, what would it be (modern, natural, classic art, cartoon, car…)?
…all of the ones at the smithsonian (no lie). i visit at least three each time I go down to dc.

    9. If you were to visit Italy for 2 weeks, where would you go?

    10. What are you doing this weekend?
…thinking about hitting the jersey shore (Seaside beach) to grab up a slice of 6 brothers pizza from the boardwalk. i’ve been having such a taste for a slice since the weather broke. i earned this cheat meal. i’ve been hitting the gym hard all month plus my diet has been on the money.

Are you scared of needles? No. It’s just as well as I have to have lots of blood tests.

What book are you reading at the moment? The second Game of Thrones book :)

If you could live in a HUGE old castle for free (but with modern conveniences) would you? Yes. It’d have to be in the middle of a forest, like in Bavaria or something.

Tell me about your favorite non-beauty related blogs: Just blogs by my friends, or craft blogs, as I’m into all that jazz.

If you were visiting your favorite kind of museum, what would it be (modern, natural, classic art, cartoon, car…)? History, I think. I find history fascinating.

If you were to visit Italy for 2 weeks, where would you go? Rome, Venice, the Amalfi Coast (which looks AMAZING!)

What are you doing this weekend? Seeing a friend who’s visiting England from The Netherlands, and probably going to see The Hangover 2 at some point.

  • How was your week? Pretty good, two major exams behind me, and I took some time off.

What is the longest you ever waited in line for anything (tickets, an amusement park ride, post office, etc.)? The amusement park sounds familiar, yes, but I think I waitet the longest infront of the doors for a concert, like three hours or something like that. A concert is also the only thing I’d actually wait for that long. Or to collect my lottery winnings.

What’s on your nails? O.P.I. Suzi says Feng Shui. Still don’t like the name, but the colour rocks my world.

Are you scared of needles? Yes, kinda. The tatoo needles no, but the medicinal ones that they insert into my innocent, guilty of nothing veins, quite.

What book are you reading at the moment? Truth be told, Obligation code of Slovenia (sorry for the clumsy translation, I have no idea how you name it in English). For relaxation the third part of Harry Potter, for the 12574th time. I should be rereading Song of Ice and Fire so I can read the newly released part, but don’t have time.

If you could live in a HUGE old castle for free (but with modern conveniences) would you? Is that a rethorical question? I’m *obsessed* with castles. If you like them, you should totally visit Slovenia, we have loads of them. :)

Tell me about your favorite non-beauty related blogs: They are Slovene, called Hirkani and “pa ne še en blog” (not another blog). Very cool ones, I love to read them.

If you were visiting your favorite kind of museum, what would it be (modern, natural, classic art, cartoon, car…)? I love museums, I usually go for art, history, also natural … whatever sounds interesting enough to me.

If you were to visit Italy for 2 weeks, where would you go? Southern Italy sounds more appealing to me, also Rome, of course, for it’s history, also Firenze, Napoli, Verona, Pompei, of course, if you’re into history… Italy is a pretty lovely country. OR! Since you’re RIGHT around the corner from Slovenia, you can come and visit, we have lots to show you. :)

What are you doing this weekend? Trying to study for my next exam and seein my BF, so he wont’ forget how I look like all together in this crazy times of studying.

  • 1. How was your week? Hectic! But I love this time of year, there’s so many fun things happening.

    2. What is the longest you ever waited in line for anything (tickets, an amusement park ride, post office, etc.)? I have no idea. But I’ve probably waited in line for some roller coaster a long time ago too.

    3. What’s on your nails? Orly Bubbly Bombshell.

    4. Are you scared of needles? Yes! But I can control it now. When I was younger I really hated it.

    5. What book are you reading at the moment? None.

    6. If you could live in a HUGE old castle for free (but with modern conveniences) would you? Hm, Probably. I really enjoy visiting them and I love to learn about their history.

    7. Tell me about your favorite non-beauty related blogs: I really don’t read any non-beauty related blogs.

    8. If you were visiting your favorite kind of museum, what would it be (modern, natural, classic art, cartoon, car…)? I love historical museums. Next time I visit NYC I’d like to go to the Museum of Natural History.

    9. If you were to visit Italy for 2 weeks, where would you go? I’ve only been to Sardinia and that was amazing! I will definitely go back again. Otherwise I’d like to go to Tuscany and either rent a house or live at a wineyard.

    10. What are you doing this weekend? Helping my sister and her hubby moving and on sunday I’m throwing a birthday dinner.

1.How was your week? Hellacious. My mother is in the hospital and will require 24-hour care until we can move her to a home, which will also be hellacious.
2.What is the longest you ever waited in line for anything (tickets, an amusement park ride, post office, etc.)? I can remember a horrendous three hour wait for re-booking in the Orlando airport due to a flight cancellation during which I was told I could go home on Sunday (it was Thursday); waiting for the Toy Story ride at Disneyland (maybe an hour and a half); and waiting for AFI tickets (maybe an hour).
3.What’s on your nails? Nubar Gem.
4.Are you scared of needles? Incredibly.
5.What book are you reading at the moment? Nothing right now. I was waiting for my next business trip (week after next).
6.If you could live in a HUGE old castle for free (but with modern conveniences) would you? Sure!
7.Tell me about your favorite non-beauty related blogs:Hyperbole and a Half (the posts about the dogs are my favorites); Hello Kitty Hell (about a husband forced to endure his wife’s Hello Kitty obsession…I have a Hello Kitty obsession); The Cheap Chica’s Guide to Style (sometimes you can learn about great deals); and Regretsy (a site poking fun at certain Etsy listings).
8.If you were visiting your favorite kind of museum, what would it be (modern, natural, classic art, cartoon, car…)? I love museums. I guess I prefer learning about history and also scientific-type ones (like the Exploratorium), but I’ll go wherever.
9.If you were to visit Italy for 2 weeks, where would you go? This questions makes me feel extremely uncultured, as I do not have an answer! Even more shameful is that I am Italian. So I’ll take Di’s suggestion!
10.What are you doing this weekend? I’m sure it will be lots of hospital visits and stress. Three days weekends are one of my favorite things on earth, but unfortunately not this one.
I attended college near Hearst Castle…it is quite amazing. Enjoy it!

    How was your week?
Very long, it seemed like. We only had one warm day! The rest were thunderstorms!

What is the longest you ever waited in line for anything (tickets, an amusement park ride, post office, etc.)?
Um, an hour. I have zero patience so it’s an hour or I go.

    What’s on your nails?
A very chipped and outgrown manicure of butter LONDON’s Primrose Hill Picnic. I’ll be doing a new mani tonight,

    Are you scared of needles?
Ha ha ha ha ha, no. I’ve had my blood drawn since I was four months old and I get TPT for my migraines monthly which involves a needle on my scalp so no, I’m not scared of them. I’ve never actually understood the fear for needles, but I guess that’s because I’ve been exposed to them since I was very, very young and others haven’t.

What book are you reading at the moment?
How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents by Julia Alvarez

If you could live in a HUGE old castle for free (but with modern conveniences) would you?
Only if I didn’t have to clean it.

Tell me about your favorite non-beauty related blogs:
I read “Reese Dixon” a lot because her kid Atti has CP just like I do. She chose my mom’s path (not to institutionalize him) and I find her very inspiring. Her blog is part Atticus, part craft. and part recipe blog. I hate the recipes (I’m rather picky), but I love the crafts and reading about Atticus (aka Atti). I also reading One Pearl Button and a few others.

If you were visiting your favorite kind of museum, what would it be (modern, natural, classic art, cartoon, car…)?
That’s hard because I’ll go to just about any museum (okay, maybe not a car museum), but I really love museums that allow me to touch everything so children’s museums have a very big soft spot with me. I’m the type of autistic that learns through being able to do the actions and feel the artwork/bones/whatever and children’s museums are the ones that do that! I wish they made an adult museum like that. I like digging up bones, painting my face and trying to tap dance (I did actually tap dance for a year…before my mom stole my shoes), going into a water place and getting wet, getting dirty, constructing things out of foam blocks, painting, making masks….I’m just that kind of person.

If you were to visit Italy for 2 weeks, where would you go?
Milan, Tuscany, Rome and definitely Florence. I love Michelangelo and Bernini. All of Bernini’s beautiful sculptures (Apollo and Daphne; David; Truth Unveiled By Time; Pluto and Proserpina) are in Rome at the Galleria Borghese. Michelangelo’s David is housed at the Galleria dell’Academia in Florence (Florence was, and still is, an city of the arts). I mean, the Sistine Chapel would be wonderful to see and everything, but I love seeing sculptures. If I had to choose a few cities, I’d narrow it down and visit the art hubs–Florence, Milan and Rome. I love art.

What are you doing this weekend?
Um, I have no idea. It’s summer vacation for me so anything goes pretty much!

1)How was your week? Me too, finally getting over the seems never ending cough that came with this last flu bug.
2)What is the longest you ever waited in line for anything (tickets, an amusement park ride, post office, etc.)? Long time since I waited in line for anything – really hate them and got used to always getting comped early on in my life for tons of things. Maybe 2 hr to get into a out door concert for the Beach Boys & Greatful Dead eons ago…showing my age here!
3)What’s on your nails?ParleZ-Vous OPI? With a strip of silver So Easy Stripe Rite on the very end of the tips – pedi – nada also on my fingers right now – doing major nail treatments to them.
4)Are you scared of needles? Hardly. I am a laboratory scientists. Use them all the time. Don’t mind getting stuck by others long as they are good and don’t hit a tendon or bone.
4)What book are you reading at the moment? Greater Journey by David McCullagh about Amercians in France during the 1800′s
5)If you could live in a HUGE old castle for free (but with modern conveniences) would you? Long as I did not have to clean it would love to!
6)Tell me about your favorite non-beauty related blogs:Indie musicians (various) and their travel tales on the road, creating process, etc. & Travel Blogs – folks that are semi-professional writers who travel most of their time.
7)If you were visiting your favorite kind of museum, what would it be (modern, natural, classic art, cartoon, car…)?Wow..hard one. I am super eclectic when it comes to this. I love modern and classic art, love to tour history homes, natural parks, natural history museums and on and on. Probably would not want to go to a cartoon museum however.
8)If you were to visit Italy for 2 weeks, where would you go? Depends on the time of year…interior Italy (Rome) is HOT in the summer. I don’t like to vacation where it’s super hot. I really adore No. Italy & Italian Coast (which is a whole lot of miles on both sides of the boot to tour around. Don’t miss Florence & Tuscany, Umbria, Calabria (late 3 are regions of Italy I really liked aside from all of No. Italy, Watch out for the major tourist areas – big time prices – way cheaper to see a few and spend the bulk of the time in the countryside that is beautiful and get to know the local culture (very friendly to travelers) and stay in some darling little places along the way.
9)What are you doing this weekend Going to our Art in The Park – which is just south of where you are right now my dear…I live in Morro Bay just down the hwy from where you are at Hearst Castle. BTW – In college I took the course to be a tour guide there and worked a couple summers back when they still let us who worked there have a big old party and go into the outdoor pool. It’s beautiful here right now and so glad you are enjoying my backyard. I adore living here. Be sure to go down to Cambria and poke around and of course come to Morro Bay and try if you can to get in and eat at Dockside. Don’t miss out cute, funky Embarcadero.

    How was your week?
Hate to say it, but more of the same.
What is the longest you ever waited in line for anything (tickets, an amusement park ride, post office, etc.)?
Can’t recall, as I’m generally loathe to wait in long lines, but probably was concert tickets (back in the days before internet) or lines at Disneyland.
    What’s on your nails?
Tips are Zoya’s Faye and toes have horribly grown out and slightly chipped CG Ahoy! still. Need a pedi!
    Are you scared of needles?
Not particularly, the logical side of my brain knows they only pinch for a second. Giving blood is a whole other animal though, I get woozy and have nearly passed out on several occasions. I’ve deducted that it is the changing of the vials, with the needle wiggling in your arm, which does it. Getting a little woozy just thinking about it.
What book are you reading at the moment?
No books right now, although I did order one that has to do with my future plans that I’m very excited (and evidently somewhat cryptic) about.
If you could live in a HUGE old castle for free (but with modern conveniences) would you?
Hmm, no probably not. Not that I can’t appreciate them, because being an Interior Designer I can appreciate most styles. I’ve been to Hearst Castle several times, and it’s fascinating to me (although I must admit that the pools are my favorites). My personal style tends to be more modern and clean-lined though. And I live alone, I’d get lonely in a huge castle, lol.
Tell me about your favorite non-beauty related blogs:
Do I follow any non-beauty related blogs? Hmm… I don’t think I do, I’ll have to remedy that, lol.
If you were visiting your favorite kind of museum, what would it be (modern, natural, classic art, cartoon, car…)?
Art, just about any, although I’m quite fond of the Impressionist era, and also the ancient Egyptian, Roman & Greek stuff.
If you were to visit Italy for 2 weeks, where would you go?
Well, Rome is obviously a must-stop for me, see the above answer. I’d also be interested in those beautiful coastal towns that seem to be carved into the hills. That’s off the tip of my head, I’m sure there are many other places I’d love to see.
What are you doing this weekend?
Mmm… probably going to see Bridesmaids and shopping and/or lunch with my best friend. Other than that, more of the same!

Hope you’re having a fantastic time in San Simeon!

    3 What’s on your nails?
    China Glaze – Ahoy!

Yes! Even when not used on myself. I once joined my boyfriend when he had to give in blood. I ended up in the chair, because i almosyt fainted…

9 If you were to visit Italy for 2 weeks, where would you go?

    HI!
I’m skipping the other questions but wanted to suggest to visit Florence, specially if you like the Renaissance period. Florence is like a dream full of poetry and art, and specially for spending romantic evenings. If I was going to Italy for the first time, and spent 2 weeks there, I would take 4-5 days to visit Rome, every clichet on pictures! My advice: walking Rome around on the evenings! She’s so amazingly misterious all lightened up! TRy to avoid july-august if you can, all the monuments are way too crowded. After Rome, I would visit Florence for another 4 – 5 days, it is just so romantic to be there! And then, to take a break from all the visiting and so that it feels like really really holidays, I would spend another 4 or 5 days in an “Agriturismo” in Tuscany!! Tasting all the authentic food, and visiting beautiful places, doing some sport outdors (trekking, biking, horse riding, or some water sports) with a landscape that is really unique, and come back home full of energy! Yeah!
(I’m married to an Italian and we go to Italy every year)
