Ahh Friday again, the 3rd best day of the week next to Saturday and Sunday 
The photo above was taken about 3 years ago when I went to Nashville, TN for a few hours. I was visiting my in-laws in AL and we took the quick 1 1/2 hour trip because I had never been there. I loved it and took many photos (mostly in Sepia tone which I was obsessed with at that time). This brings me to the theme of this weeks poll which is Summer Vacations!

It started off not too pleasant, we had a main water line break in the front yard so we had no water all day Sunday and part of Monday. But it’s fixed now, so hopefully that is that.
Hilariously bad perhaps. About 9 years ago Mr. VV and I went to Cozumel Mexico. We stayed at an all-inclusive hotel, which was ok in itself but the FOOD. The food was awful, I barely ate anything the whole trip except when we went into town and ate at a Hard Rock. That was like a 5 star restaurant there, haha!

Probably one of the Hawaii trips. We went there quite frequently so I was able to spend a lot of time on Maui, Kauai, Hawaii and Oahu for weeks at a time. The only bad thing was it was usually during school, so I had to do loads of homework while I was there!
Boy do I ever love tropical islands. I am such a “lay on the hot beach and do nothing but swim” kind of vacationer, but I have to say London because it was my first trip to Europe and I had been wanting to go for so long.
We are going to visit Hearst Castle in San Simeon, CA for our 4th wedding anniversary, which is about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Later on in the year we are *hopefully* going to Italy!
Most places I like to vacation are SIZZLING and I like it that way, BUT I hate humidity. HATE IT. So I think when I add humidity in the mix it’s definitely on the same trip where this photo was taken, but it was at Stone Mountain in Georgia. I have never experienced that kind of heat/humidity combo, I wanted to die.

How was your week?
I had finals so not great. But today I woke up and saw what I believe to be a falcon on my balcony (I’ve seen him before, too but I’ve never been able to get clear photographs before!)

Not a ‘thing that happened’ exactly, but when we were young, my sister and I visited our dad for the summer, and even though he offered us the couch to sleep on, we’d always take our blankets and sleep behind the couch.

Nothing!
What is the best vacation you went on as a kid?
Disneyland! Or was it Disney world? We also went on a Disney cruise that was pretty fun.
What is the best vacation you went on as an adult?
What counts as adult? I’m 18 and haven’t yet been on vacation since my 18th birthday.

Yes, but they’re iffy.

How was your week? Not too bad. Still marking, but that will be done soon.
Do you have a really hilarious or weird thing that happened to you while on vacation? I always have a story from every vacation! Warning: This is a long one. Probably one of my favourites was when I went to Cancun with a friend – this was before it was a spring break destination. We were at the Hard Rock cafe a few times while we were there, chatting up the hot bartenders. One night, a band came in, and they had two groupies with them. The singer came to sit with my friend and I at the bar, and he was really cool and fun. We just hung out there, much to the dismay of the sullen groupies. There was no way I was going back to his hotel, even with my friend. He told me the name of the band he was in, but I didn’t know them. I got home and a week later on MuchMore music I saw a video with him in it…the band was Kix, a hair band from the early 90s. I laughed so much, because the music was just meh, but he was really sweet. One of my few brushes with “fame”, lol!

What is the best vacation you went on as an adult? Egypt in 2008.
Do you have any plans for a trip in the next few months? Vancouver in July, Las Vegas in August. These are trips hubby wanted to do, since he has taken up magic again. They should be fun, but I want to go to Paris next spring!

What is your favorite kind of vacation to go on? Sightseeing historic or cultural locales.

2.Do you have a really hilarious or weird thing that happened to you while on vacation? As soon as we arrived at the airport in Barcelona (Spain) my best friend couldn’t find her luggage. I stayed with her until she found it. When I turned I couldn’t see any of our other friends. They had left us behind, jumped into the bus and left us there… We didn’t know what to do or where to go… Until they noticed we were missing and came back to pick us.

I started going to the gym again; I forgot how good it feels when you’re done with a workout! I also got some great news this morning, so I am excited for that (vague, I know, but I don’t want to jinx anything!)
2.Do you have a really hilarious or weird thing that happened to you while on vacation?
I also tend to run into people I know while on vacations, no matter where we are.
My celebrity doppelgänger is Rebecca Gayheart. 10 years ago, we were at Hershey Park, and one of the ride attendants was 100% completely convinced that I was actually her. He kept calling me the “Noxzema Girl” – at 15 in 2001, I had no idea what he was talking about, but now that I am older (and have heard it so many times, and have actually seen the commercial on YouTube), I understand.
3.What’s on your nails today?
but NYC Times Square Tangerine on my toes with OPI Black Shatter over it.
Nothing on my fingers (my nails are currently nubbins)
4.What is the best vacation you went on as a kid?
We didn’t go on many vacations when I was a kid, but Florida was fun! (Grandparents had a condo by the beach, and Disney World, of course!)
5.What is the best vacation you went on as an adult?
Last year, I went to California for a week with my best friend (we visited my brother in Pasadena, and went to L.A., Santa Monica, lots of shopping, etc.) I absolutely loved it.
6.Do you have any plans for a trip in the next few months?
We’re getting married in September, but we’re going to wait until next year to take our Hawaii honeymoon. After the wedding, we’re going to do a week-long East Coast city-hopping adventure just to relax and have a fun, but not too expensive, trip.
7.What is the hottest place you ever visited during the summer?
Florida! And muggy, too, so it was just… yuck.
8.What is your favorite kind of vacation to go on?
Beach vacations – yes, please!

I wouldn’t mind going on our Hawaii trip right now, lol… pshhh, who cares if it’s before the wedding?

Going to a festival tomorrow morning, and Stone Temple Pilots concert tomorrow night. Going to my grandma’s for Mother’s Day.
How was your week? Relaxing. I taught dance in the evenings and mostly cleaned and organized in the day.
Do you have a really hilarious or weird thing that happened to you while on vacation? I have only been on one official vacation (the plane, resort etc.) and it was not the greatest. My grandma lost her glasses in the ocean, everyone got sick at one point, then my grandma couldn’t find her I.D. when we were leaving so her and my aunt had to stay back. They found it back at the resort but had to stay an extra night.
What’s on your nails today? Nothing. I had on GOSH Miss Grey with a Zoya sparkle top coat, but it was very chipped.
What is the best vacation you went on as a kid? We would rent a cottage about half an hour from my house for a week each summer. Sand, water and sun, what more could you want?
What is the best vacation you went on as an adult? I haven’t really been on any vacations as an adult. I guess Dominican was fun too, just a bit too stressful, since the whole family came. Grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. And we have a big family!
Do you have any plans for a trip in the next few months? Maybe NYC for a dance instructors conference.
What is the hottest place you ever visited during the summer? I don’t do well in heat, so I try and avoid really warm places.
What is your favorite kind of vacation to go on? Road trip, exploring different cities.

Do you have a really hilarious or weird thing that happened to you while on vacation? Hmm…weird. My friend was eating dried squid/fish or something equally gross from a package…and she was eating it on the bus. Really grossed me out.

What is the best vacation you went on as a kid?
Probably Canada’s Wonderland. I have all these pictures of me hugging a giant Smurfette mascot. Her head alone was probably 5 times the size of me! And Smurfette was my favourite back then – loved the cartoon as a kid.
What is the best vacation you went on as an adult?
Hands down Montreal! It was a very romantic trip with my boyfriend at the time. We walked everywhere, ate to-die-for food, and we were That Annoying Couple who was crazy in love. Haha!
Do you have any plans for a trip in the next few months?
Nope. I have to keep my budget pretty frugal for a while.
What is the hottest place you ever visited during the summer?
Hmm…not sure. But the hottest place I’ve ever visited (not during the summer) was Los Angeles! Went a few years ago in October and the weather was great!
What is your favorite kind of vacation to go on?
I haven’t been on many vacations, but my favourite kind of vacation to go on in general are the ones where I get to spend quality time with people I love. It doesn’t matter where we go as long as the chemistry between us is there.

4. What is the best vacation you went on as a kid? Our whole extended family would go on long weekends to the beach. Those are some of my best memories as a child.

What is the best vacation you went on as a kid?
Expo ’96 in Vancouver, Canada. I went twice! I flew up there with my parents and cousin’s family for the first trip, and I drove up with my uncle, aunt and grandma for the second.
What is the best vacation you went on as an adult?
Viet Nam. If I never go anywhere else I am happy that I at least went there. Like you, I prefer tropical holidays, so it was nice to end our trip at the beach after trekking around for so long.
Do you have any plans for a trip in the next few months?
I’ll be going to my best friend’s wedding in Rome in August. Before that, I’ll be flying into London to visit with old friends, then taking Eurostar to Paris where I will stay at my friend’s place before we head to Italy together (Her fiance is an Italian based in France). I’ve never been to Italy and I’m very excited!
What is the hottest place you ever visited during the summer?
Ah, I have good memories of Stone Mountain from when I was a kid. Viet Nam is the hottest place I’ve ever been, but that was in December.. The hottest summer vacation was in Miami. That was SO much fun. I love humidity. It does wonders for my hair and skin.
What is your favorite kind of vacation to go on?
I LOVE “Islands with gorgeous warm blue water and soft white sands.” too. I love to swim in the ocean. I lost 8 lbs swimming from 6am to 6pm every day in Miami! I anticipated gaining a lot of weight from eating nothing but fried Cuban food, but by the end of the trip I fit into size 26 jeans!

Wow, I totally forgot I went to Expo ’86 too! We drove up in our motor home (Mom, evil-ex-stepfather & bro). I got 68 mosquito bites at one of the campgrounds on the way, aah! Still, loved Vancouver and was a great trip!
Vancouver was amazing! Did you also get a chance to go to Victoria? British Columbia is pristine! The World’s Fair theme was Transportation & Communication, and wasn’t it so exciting to see all the new technologies coming out and all the countries’ contributions? I feel so lucky to have been there as a ten year old.
Yes, we did actually get over to Victoria as well. I have like 10 rolls of film’s worth of pictures from that trip. Do you remember the hill-y ‘road’ that had all the different types of transportation and I think you could walk on it and I’m pretty sure I have a pic of my brother on a motorcycle or something, lol. A long time ago, my memory ain’t what she used to be! Actually stopped in Vancouver again in 2002 (end of Alaska cruise) and you could see that big white sail-looking building from the ship, lol. Glad you enjoyed it as well!

7. What is the hottest place you ever visited during the summer? Well, I’m from HI, so you would think that would be it, but we were in PA during July, and the humidity and heat were way more extreme than anything I ever grew up in.
8. What is your favorite kind of vacation to go on? Anywhere is good, but I especially like traveling to foreign countries – different languages and cultures are so interesting, and I love trying new food!
9. If you could pick anywhere right this instant to go to for free, where would it be? Prolly Ireland and the UK. I’ve always wanted to go there (it sounds so beautiful) and I’m sure the weather is better in the summer.
10. Whatcha up to this weekend? Still working on that project I mentioned, but maybe we’ll see Thor too.

1. How was your week? Awesome. I’ve been on vacation. At home, but I’ve slept a lot.
2. Do you have a really hilarious or weird thing that happened to you while on vacation? My parents, sister, and I were in a Waffle House at 6am driving to the Florida Keys and my father put a ridiculous for 6am playlist on the jukebox. Mambo Number 5, Bohemian Rhapsody, Macarena, and a whole bunch of other ridiculously perky songs. And then came back to our table with an evil grin on his face. We all proceeded to bang our heads on the table because we felt it too early. But now we all laugh over it, it was kinda funny looking back. And I’ll never forget it.
3. What’s on your nails today? Orly Velvet Rope.
4. What is the best vacation you went on as a kid? The trips to the Keys were always the best. We’d go at Spring Break and it would be warm and awesome after cold winters in MD.
5. What is the best vacation you went on as an adult? Okay, seeing as I’m just really entering adult years… I’m going to either say my Senior Class Trip, we took a cruise to Key West, Cozumel, and Grand Caymans. It was great! Or if that doesn’t count since I was 17… I’d say the mini-trip to Atlantic City with two friends this past March. We had fun, and stayed in a skeevy hotel, where I had the desk guy charmed in a few seconds… and got my Coach bag there.
6. Do you have any plans for a trip in the next few months? The trip to Chattanooga, Tennessee to move back into the dorm for school? Does that count?
7. What is the hottest place you ever visited during the summer? Hmmmm… Chattanooga a few years back? It was steamy. But again, it was to move me into the dorm, so I’m not sure if that counts…
8. What is your favorite kind of vacation to go on? If it’s sunny, 85 degrees, and there’s a beach and good shopping, I’m good to go.
9. If you could pick anywhere right this instant to go to for free, where would it be? Back to Cozumel, the beach I was at there was perfect. I’d go back to that beach in a heartbeat!
10. Whatcha up to this weekend? Geeking out of Game of Thrones with a friend, and seeing my parents after they’ve returned from their cruise for their 25th anniversary.
1. How was your week? It’s week two of starting a new job and moving to a new city, so it’s been crazy and a little lonely.

Hmm… so many stories, hard to choose. I’ll go with my trip to Australia for my honeymoon, my (now ex) husband needed me to translate for him, as he couldn’t understand the Aussies’ talk with thier accent, lol. ‘No worries, mate’ needs translating? It’s English, man! The irony is that I’m deaf in one ear, I don’t think it was as bad back then, but still had a hard time hearing and I had to do the translating, lol.
What’s on your nails today?
Color Club ‘Ultra Violet’ on the tips, China Glaze ‘Ahoy’ on the toes. They don’t really ‘go’ together, but they’re both bright, fun colors.
What is the best vacation you went on as a kid?
As a kid we mostly did road/camping trips, so I’ve been to most of the National Parks and what-have-you. Also, during summer vacation, my Mom would fly us out to Chicago to stay for part of the summer, so many of my summer memories are of being in Chicago with my Grandparents and aunts & uncles. 4th of July was always a big deal, because my Grandma’s birthday was July 3rd, and my cousin’s is July 4th, so we’d always have a huge bbq/party that ended with my uncles lighting fireworks in the street (was across from a parking lot, not near houses, relatively safe-ish, lol). I’ve done most of my more ‘exotic’ travelling as an adult.
What is the best vacation you went on as an adult?
This would be so hard to answer if I really thought about it, because I’ve had a lot of great trips, but I’m going to go with the 17-day cruise I took in 2001 with my Mom. We left from Ft Lauderdale, went all throught the Carribean, through the Panama Canal (our ship’s maiden voyage through the canal) and up the coast, stopping in Costa Rica and Mexico, ended up in San Diego. Just me and my Mom, she was an awesome Mom, an awesome friend, and we had an awesome trip, so glad for those memories.
Do you have any plans for a trip in the next few months?
If the afore-mentioned escrow would close, I’ll be heading to Chicago to look for a house, hopefully buying a house, heading home, finish packing, then road trip to Chicago with my cousin with my 4 dogs in tow. Not exactly a ‘vacation’, I realize.
What is the hottest place you ever visited during the summer?
Well, technically I think it was fall, but Cancun at the end of September would have to be it. 100 degrees, 100% humidity, but not raining, argh! Still had a great trip though, tequila makes heat tolerable, who knew?
What is your favorite kind of vacation to go on?
Again, hard to say. I love to travel, I love to see other cultures, check things out. But I also love the ocean, and just relaxing and enjoying that sort of ‘beachy’ feeling.
If you could pick anywhere right this instant to go to for free, where would it be?
Santorini, Greece. It’s one of those places that I just ‘have’ to get to, for whatever reason it just appeals to me.
Whatcha up to this weekend?
Waiting impatiently for Monday to find out if we’re going to get loan docs from my buyer, so I can find out for sure when this escrow is going to close and the knots can get out of my stomach and my hair can stop falling out. Otherwise, I should just be organizing and packing. Who knows, maybe I’ll get together with my bestie and her kids, no plans yet though.

Oh, forgot to comment on Hearst Castle trip. Be sure to let us know how your trip goes. I’ve been on several tours of the castle (it’s a bit of an easier drive for me, I think, about 3-4 hours). My Mom had a house in Cambria which is just a bit south of San Simeon, so we’d go to Hearst Castle whenever anyone from out of town was visiting. Central California is so beautiful, hope you enjoy your weekend! Oh, and Italy – Jealous!
1. How was your week? Pretty Good, but today I had to wake at 4:30am for work! I don’t do very well when I’m sleep deprived.

Do you have a really hilarious or weird thing that happened to you while on vacation?Not really hilarious, at least not for me, but I once missed my plane on my way to Oaxaca, Mexico because the airline people gave me the wrong information, I almost ended up in Acapulco. Good thing I had family in Mexico City and they picked me up after a few hours. I was able to get a plane the next morning and to my luck I ended up sitting next to a member of the Mormon church who tried to recruit me. Good thing it was short flight.

Camping trip to Yosemite!!!

It wasn’t really a vacation, because it was a study abroad program, but I have to say Oaxaca, Mexico! I have to go back on a real vacation!

Phoenix or Mexicali, Mexico! Good thing I live in the bay area, i can’t handle the heat.

Do you have a really hilarious or weird thing that happened to you while on vacation? while on vacay in paris with my mom and sister during the cold month of march, we went to have the infamous hot chocolate at angelina. there was a super long line that went outside the door and i was sporting my cute wool newsboy hat. once our part of the line actually got indoors one of the waitstaff came and hit the brim of my hat – obviously telling me without words – no hats indoors. i hadn’t done it intentionally just forgot about it. felt like a rude american in paris

Hear hear on the heat and humidity! (I live closish to Stone Mountain) I always thought I hated hot weather, but on a trip to California learned that it is the humidity that drives me crazy. And I hope get to go to Italy! I was able to go this past year for a few days and it was divine. It lives up to the hype and then some. I’m definitely returning someday!
