American Apparel Neon Nail Lacquer Swatches, Photos & Review
American Apparel has a new summer collection out which includes six new NEON colors. I mean NEON!
Some companies say they have neon polish but really it’s just a bright creme. These (well most that I tried) are truly retina-burning brights.
My eyes actually adjusted when I looked at some of them!
The six shades are:
- Neon Orange
- Neon Red
- Neon Coral
- Neon Green
- Neon Yellow
- Neon Violet

Neon Orange
Neon Orange is a bright, clean orange which leans towards the tangerine rather than reddish or burnt side of orange. This is actually brighter in person than the picture depicts!
The formula was very streaky and yet also thick and hard to work with. I needed three coats and you can still see some areas which aren’t fully covered.
Neon Green
Neon Green is probably the brightest neon nail polish I have ever laid eyes on. I mean it’s SOOOOOO bright! I had a pair of socks this green back in the 80′s 
The formula is also super thick and not so easy to work with, however this one covered a little better than Neon Orange did. I totally love it because it’s so amazingly green and bright!

Neon Violet
Neon Violet is a bright violet/pink color. Now this one in person is actually more purple than it looks here, my camera wouldn’t pick it up correctly. However I don’t think it’s nearly as bright as the previous two. In fact I don’t really think it’s even “neon”, more just bright.
The formula was much better with this, though still on the thicker side. This covered almost completely in just one coat and was easier to apply.
Overall:
I like these though the formula left a little to be desired. Of the three I tried I totally recommend Neon Green, I just think it looks super cool!

I absolutely love neon nail polish and have bought lots of clothes from American Apparel in the past.
Was thinking about buying these neon polishes when I first heard about them, but after Googling “American Apparel CEO”, reading all about the controversies over sexual harrassment lawsuits, and the way he supposedly openly calls female employees derrogatory names, I’ve decided not to support this shady company no matter how much I love the colours. Even if it’s “just controversy”, it has raised doubts about this company’s ethics, and the doubts are unfortunately enough for me to not shop there anymore.

Not only have I read all that you have, I know someone whose boyfriend used to be a store manager for American Apparel out here in LA, and the things I heard make me hate them even worse.
I rarely boycott companies and this is one of the few. It’s a pity because their colors look excellent, but ugh, such a slime ball.

Hate to break it to you: but pretty much EVERY company is shady and questionable. At least American Apparel manufactures their product in the US, treats their workers well and cares about general human welfare (the Legalize Gay and immigration reform campaigns). There is a sad laundry list out their of companies that utilize child/slave labor and senselessly torture animals to test the “safety” of their products (L’oreal, Aveno, Johnson & Johnson, Covergirl, Maybelline, Pantene, the list is EXTENSIVE). Singling out AA for “just controversies” is absurd.
Well put, Kristi! There are so many more companies with far more egregious offenses on their records, such as gross human rights violations, employing child labor, environmental degradation, gratuitous and unnecessary testing on animals, etc.. yet people are up in arms over Dov Charney’s pervy ways. Honestly, there are so many more significant things to be upset about. How about boycotting large banks and choosing to bank with cooperative banks/credit unions instead? How about BOYCOTting WALMART, which is wholly bad for America?

I’m not really into neons, but that green is so fabulous, I think I’m going to have to get it! Plus, a black shatter for on top. And I’m not even into the shatters, either, but I think that would be so amazing!

I’m really digging that purple. I do love the other colors but I’m pale with a warm skin tone and neon nail polishes make me look like I have jaundice. Jealous of people who can wear them without looking ill!

I must have Neon Violet. Actually purple is the only neon I dare to wear.
Also Neon Red looks pretty from the pic.
I’ll definitely grab a couple of these (skipping the ultra streaky); they’re fun and I love AA’s pricing (3 for $15, can’t beat that with their usually great formula!)

HI Kelly: I have never seen such brightness in a neon polish, would I wear it on my toes, awwww, I don’t know, maybe I would it’s diffidently a show stopper, I can just imagine woman wearing this on their fingers, it’s so bright and fun looking. WOW! Never seen anything so bright, it’s very cheerful, maybe the purple, LOL

How do you apply your nail polish so the gap is even around the cuticles?
Do you use some sort of masking around the cuticle and then peel it off?
Hi AB,
I just paint carefully around the cuticle area. Takes practice but not too hard once you get the hang of it. For clean up I use a small brush dipped in remover and go around any edges. Hope that helps!

I just bought three of these yesterday with the $10 off coupon. I got Neon Violet, Orange and Coral. I never usually go for coral colors because they look horrid on me, but these are so pretty. They’re also my first neons. I think they’ll be so fun to wear when it’s scorching hot out!

Man these hurt my eyes on the monitor! They are the brightest I’ve ever seen also. I like Neon Violet. Heck, I like them all.
The violet is GORGEOUS! Love it!
The yellow intrigues me, because it does not look “neon yellow”, more “sunny yellow”, but I am definitely getting the green!
