Wet n Wild Lipstick Swatches, Photos & Review

Wet n Wild Lipstick

Back in the day, I used to peruse the Berkeley Kress store on Shattuck Avenue (my old stomping grounds) and buy lots of black Wet n Wild eyeliner. I never really got into their lipstick much from what I remember. I actually didn’t wear lipstick until around age 16/17 because I hated the way it felt. Wow did that change!

I recently saw these beauties at drug store and couldn’t resist trying them out. So bright and juicy looking and hey, on sale for .69 cents who could resist?

The formula was fairly good with these. They felt moisturizing and had a good level of saturation. Not the best I’ve ever used, but pretty darn good for the price.

The packaging did definitely feel cheaper and more plasticky and loose than I would prefer in a lipstick tube, but again no complaints for the price!

Wet n Wild Lipstick 502A

Wet n Wild Lipstick 502A on Lips

502A is a shimmery pink/mauve color. This one is a little frosty (80’s) looking, but not too bad. I think it would look great with a really dark eye especially.

Wet n Wild Lipstick 521A

Wet n Wild Lipstick 521A on Lips

521A is a bright fuchsia with purple/blue shimmer. Bright pink is one of my favorite lips colors to wear and this one is really quite nice. The pink is a little on the warmer side than most fuchsia lipsticks I own, but not really that warm.

Wet n Wild Lipstick 514A

Wet n Wild Lipstick 514A on Lips

514A is a bright cherry red with red shimmer. This also has a slightly warm feeling to it. It’s not as saturated as I expected it to be, but after a few swipes it looks amazing. I like that it’s not overly bright like some cherry reds are, it’s slightly muted so that makes it more wearable to me.

I liked all three of these but especially 521A and 514A. Even if they had been around say $5.00 I think they would be totally worth it.

Wow – nice colours for under $1 a pop? What a good deal! My favourite is actually 502A…reminds me of a MAC lipstick but the name escapes me.

514A is my favourite on you, though.

  • April 27, 2011

Did they stay in place well or was there a bit of feathering? That’s always my fear with drug store lipstick.

    • April 27, 2011

      Hi netzilla,

I wore the fuchsia one and never had any feathering.

  • April 27, 2011

I like 514 and 521. My big issue with drugstore lipsticks is the breaking…the lipstick always breaks inside the tube. Frustrating!

    • April 27, 2011

      Hi SB_Sweetie,

Oh yeah, I’ve had that happen also!

  • April 27, 2011

502A I did like this one am looking for one with more glitter.

I love W n W lipsticks. For a long time I’d buy them to try a color that I wasn’t sure I could pull off, rather than dropping $7 for it in another brand only to find it gave me monkeybutt lips. But it seems that, like most of the other stuff W n W makes, the quality has improved since my 1985 black eyeliner buying days and I seek it out as a primary choice rather than a ‘swatch attempt’.

I LOVE that cheaper brands like Wet N Wild are stepping up on their quality! I just see great review after great review for Wet N Wild, across all blogs. I have to say, like the color of the frosty one, but I agree that it’s a bit TOO frosty. But I think a bit of a shimmerless gloss on top could probably remedy that =]

  • April 27, 2011

Wow! I had one like that pretty fuchsia years ago from WNW and I loved it to death! I adored their liners and lipsticks and even their polishes. I pretty much only buy drugstore brands and WNW is my favorite of those. Thanks for the awesome review! I really enjoyed the swatches and pics of you wearing these pretty colors.

Whaaat? WnW lipsticks cost only $1 in US?! The price here is something like US$7 and would you believe that’s about the cheapest lipstick in the market. Geez it’s so much easier being a makeup addict in US čśÇ

502A looks like Mac’s Bubblegum to me, I need to check it out. I only have one WnW lipstick, I believe it’s 511B, a bright pink. It’s very pigmented and creamy, really like it.

  • April 27, 2011

Wow. I think I’ll have to stop at CVS on the way home from work for the 514. It’s really nice!

I have been very impressed by the changes to both the Wet ‘n’ Wild products as well as the NYC products at the drugstore. I just bought some WnW powder blush (after having used a Tarte cheekstain for years). You would not believe how many people have noticed that something is different: that I look less tired, am glowing, or look really put together. The formula is great, the pigmentation is great. I’m pretty darn happy with my $1.99 blush!

I got the 502A and 521A. I love them both :) . The 502A is perfect on my skin tone, almost like a nude pink color which I love.

Haha, that is so funny! These are the exact three lipsticks I bought a couple weeks ago. I ended up buying 8 more to swatch on my blog and fell in love with a few of those too. Can’t beat it for 69 cents!

  • April 27, 2011

Holy shizz…those look surprisingly nice! Great color choices too,,,I really like the last 2. Is it weird though that it bugs me when things don’t have real names, just numbers? čśë

I think they do have names, they are on the plastic wrap written in very small font. Often times it takes a microscope to read them, though.

  • April 27, 2011

Daaaang!! Those are super great for the price!! Score!

    I love the 502A shade!

  • April 28, 2011

Thanks for doing a review on such an inexpensive product! I really dislike what seems to be the general assumption that ALL drugstore makeup is crap, and I appreciate seeing a review on a lipstick that doesn’t cost as much as a decent meal.

  • April 29, 2011

Those all look killer on you! I have definitely looked into Wet n Wild more as a result of reading this blog and have not been disappointed. Their prices can’t be beat and their stuff has been consistently surprising me. I’ve gotten complimens while wearing their eyeshadow and nail polish!

  • May 1, 2011

I adore lipstick. I have so many but I still want to buy more!

  • May 2, 2011

Did you have a lip balm either underneath or over these? I havent worn WNW lipsticks in year because they always felt dry or dried out quick…how was the wearing?
p.s. first time on this blog and i am hooked! Great job!

    • May 2, 2011

      Hi Robin,

No lip balm under these swatches. Pretty much all lipsticks get dry on me after a few hours because I have extremely dry lips so it’s hard for me to tell if it’s the lipstick or me!
