Color Club Alter Ego Reveal Your Mystery Collection for Spring 2011 Swatches & Review

Color Club Reveal Your Mystery is the lighter and more subtle side of their 12 piece collection called Alter Ego.

Yesterday I showed you Keep It Undercover, which I think is definitely the stronger and more fun half.

The formula on these was a bit better in terms of thickness and stickiness. These flowed better and were nicer, though on the negative side, they were extremely sheer and didn’t build up as much as I hoped.

This collection comes with a milky white base coat, which is pretty sheer in itself, but I didn’t use it in these swatches. Maybe that would have helped with the streakiness though…

Color Club Incognito Color Club Alter Ego Reveal Your Mystery Collection for Spring 2011 Swatches & Review
Incognito

Incognito is a super sheer nude. Basically it has barely any color, it just gives a very nude and shiny look to your nails. This was two coats.

Color Club Get A Clue Color Club Alter Ego Reveal Your Mystery Collection for Spring 2011 Swatches & Review
Get A Clue

Get A Clue is a pale cotton candy pink. This was a little less sheer than the previous one and covered pretty decently with three coats. I think it’s a very pretty pink actually.

Color Club Revealed Color Club Alter Ego Reveal Your Mystery Collection for Spring 2011 Swatches & Review
Revealed

Revealed is a pale peachy pink with subtle pink shimmer. This is the only one in the collection with shimmer in fact. I really like the color, but the formula was a bit streaky as you can see. This was on the thicker side compared to the rest in this half of the collection and was two coats.

Color Club Sweet Rendezvous Color Club Alter Ego Reveal Your Mystery Collection for Spring 2011 Swatches & Review
Sweet Rendezvous

Sweet Rendezvous is a pale almost pastel-like lavender. I love this color, so pretty and feminine! The formula was sheer though and I did have issues with streakiness. This was three coats.

Color Club Sheer Disguise Color Club Alter Ego Reveal Your Mystery Collection for Spring 2011 Swatches & Review
Sheer Disguise

Sheer Disguise is a light dusty grey/blue color. Very unique and interesting I think. It’s not the typical sky blue you see for spring, it definitely has a greyish/greenish cast to it. This was a little more opaque than most of the others, but again, streaks! This was three coats.

Color Club Give Me A Hint Color Club Alter Ego Reveal Your Mystery Collection for Spring 2011 Swatches & Review
Give Me A Hint

Give Me A Hint is a purple/taupe color. Of all the ones here, you get the most saturation with this one. It does start off very sheer and almost watery, but after three coats builds up nicely. I do have a million other taupes similar though.

Overall:

For those who love pale, sheer colors I think this collection would suit them. But for those looking for *wow* colors and saturation, skip it. I think the colors that are most interesting are Sheer Disguise and Secret Rendezvous.

Availability: Online

Pricing: $3-6 depending on where you purchase

What do you think of this half compared to the other half?

-Kelly

Some of the pastel-type colors remind me of the CG Up & Away collex! How do they compare? Is “Sheer Disguise” like “For Audrey”? That’s what I thought when I first saw the swatch!

    • Hi Amanda,

Nope, not like For Audrey. It’s a different blue and much more sheer.

  • I like this part of the collection better than the other I think. Great swatches.

  • I like the dustiness of Sheer Disguise. Revealed is kind of nice with the shimmer.

    • Hi Naomi,

Yeah I liked it woo, wished it would have been a better formula though!

Could you do some comparison swatches to Sheer Disguise? Maybe OPI Damone Roberts or some others like that? Thanks!

    • Mimi

Nevermind, Just remembered you don’t do OPI any more! Sorry about that!

      March 15, 2011
    • Hi Mimi,

I can tell you it’s not like Damone Roberts. Not really a mint green…

This collection doesn’t do much for me. I may grab incognito and give it a shot cause I’m looking for a good nude but beyond that I think this is going to be one collection I pass on.

  • Wow, I didn’t think Incognito was that sheer!

I picked up the set at Ross and I’m still contemplating whether to keep it or return it. The sheerness and streaks are boo boo! But it was also such a deal! decisions, decisons… I will keep reviewing your wonderful swatches to help me decide :)

  • I actually really like the first shade, Incognito. It reminds me of OPI Tickle My France-y.

I actually like these colors better than the first half of the collection. I think these colors are prettier. I like sheer disguise the most. Are these only available online?

    March 15, 2011
  • Shame about the streakiness. This is a pass for me, although Sheer Disguise is very pretty!

Wow. Incognito is your Mannequin Hands shade, for sure!
Sheer Disguise and Revealed surprised me the most- I like ‘em

  • My favs are Incognito and Give Me a Hint. I found that Incognito is the best polish for me to use to highlight an overlay polish.

I can gladly skip this collection. I like Give Me a Hint. But like you I have plenty of taupes. They are hard to resist.

Sheer Disguise is such a nice color, and one I don’t have in my collection…but I’m torn with the formula issues. Decisions decisions!!!

    March 16, 2011
  • Give me A Hint is the only one I like, the rest is just not for me. I don’t like sheer polishes!

I love Incognito. This is coming from a girl who wears black polish 70% of the time… But I’ve been craving a buildable sheer that matches my skintone for a “nude nail” look. It’s natural yet sort of edgy at the same time, not a tame natural look like a classic French. Plus it’d be a great base for a funky French.

I LOVE Sheer Disguise! It looks just like Icing J’Adore, but Icing’s formula isn’t my favorite, so I will definitely be getting SD!
