China Glaze Island Escape for Summer 2011 Swatches, Photos & Review

China Glaze Island Escape China Glaze Island Escape for Summer 2011 Swatches, Photos & Review

Just the name of China Glaze’s new collection for summer 2011 makes me want to drop everything and go: Island Escape.

Ahhh it conjures up images of white sand beaches, hammocks tied in-between palm trees gently swaying the in breeze and nothing but the sound of the warm ocean water lapping at the shore nearby…Can you tell I desperately need a vacation? icon smile China Glaze Island Escape for Summer 2011 Swatches, Photos & Review

Island Escape features six new colors, all really summer appropriate:

  • Papaya Punch: Crème based vivid orange
  • 108 Degrees: Flirtatious berry pink with specks of micro glitter
  • Senorita Bonita: Passionate purple shimmer with pink micro glitter
  • Blue Iguana: Bold and daring sparkly blue
  • Cha Cha Cha: Vivacious shimmer green
  • Electric Pineapple: High intensity crème based lime green

China Glaze Electric Pineapple China Glaze Island Escape for Summer 2011 Swatches, Photos & Review
Electric Pineapple

Electric Pineapple is a yellow/lime green creme. heavier on the yellow than green I found. I love, love, love this color because to my eye and on my nails it looks more yellow than green, and it’s not a dupe for any lime greens or yellows I already have. I was a tiny bit on the streaky side, but after three coats it evened out nicely.

China Glaze Papaya Punch China Glaze Island Escape for Summer 2011 Swatches, Photos & Review
Papaya Punch

Papaya Punch is a bright tangerine orange creme. I definitely like this better than a warmer, darker orange, it’s bright and fun. This one was also a little streaky and needed three coats for total coverage.

China Glaze Cha Cha Cha China Glaze Island Escape for Summer 2011 Swatches, Photos & Review
Cha Cha Cha

Cha Cha Cha is a bright shimmery green with heavy yellow shimmer. This reminds me of a Midori sour drink! I found the formula to be quite a bit thinner than the two creme colors, and less opaque. I used three coats here and in certain lighting you can still see my nail line. I don’t love that, wish it was more opaque, but the color is nice (maybe not all that unique now though).

China Glaze 108 Degrees China Glaze Island Escape for Summer 2011 Swatches, Photos & Review
108 Degrees

108 Degrees is a fuchsia pink with pink microglitter.  This was a bit more opaque than Cha Cha Cha, so I actually only used two coats. Fun and very summery, but again not all that unique.

China Glaze Senorita Bonita China Glaze Island Escape for Summer 2011 Swatches, Photos & Review
Senorita Bonita

Senorita Bonita is a purple with pink and blue microglitter. Wow! I wasn’t expecting the color to be quite this awesome from what I saw in the bottle. I love the blue/purple/pink look this has, it practically glows! The formula again was on the thinner side and I needed three coats, but it covered quite nicely.

China Glaze Blue Iguana China Glaze Island Escape for Summer 2011 Swatches, Photos & Review
Blue Iguana

Blue Iguana is a medium blue with blue microglitter. I wound up being disappointed with this one. In the bottle I saw a purple duochrome but it doesn’t show up on the nail at all. Also this was super sheer, the sheerest of the bunch and even after three coats, you can definitely still see my nail line.

Overall:

Cute collection, and definitely fun and cheery for summer. The ones I would recommend are Electric Pineapple, Papaya Punch and Senorita Bonita. I liked Cha Cha Cha and 108 Degrees also, but feel those are more easily found colors.

Availability:

Online and in stores now

Pricing: Varies

So what do we think of Island Escape?

  • A bit too bright for me and not very original. Nice enough. Electric Pineapple might be worth getting. Is it way away from Fiercely Fiona?

Is Papaya Punch a dupe for Zoya – Jancyn by any chance? So pretty! Also, 108 Degrees looks really similar to CG – Ahoy! Is 108 Degrees a little lighter?

  • I think my fav of these is Papaya Punch… and it’s actually kind of a surprise for me, because I’m so not into oranges!
    Senorita Bonita is great too!

  • I really like this collection but I feel like some of the colors are to ones I already own so I’m on the fence about buying them. I know you don’t support OPI but I’ve heard that Electric Pineapple and Papaya Punch are similar to OPI’s Fiercely Fiona and Flit a Bit. I’m sure I would look weird taking my two bottles into Sally’s to compare!

I find nothing weird about doing that. I do things like that all the time. It’s called being a smart consumer.

Great swatches, Kelly. I am only going to get Electric Pineapple, for I love pear greens! It’s bright but not neon, and it looks pretty unique to my eyes.

  • Senorita Bonita is (thankfully) the only one that I have a yearning for….I love seeing your swatches so i know whetheror not I *need* all of the collections!

I wasn’t feeling this collection until I saw your swatches. Now, I must have Senorita Bonita. Love the pink/blue effects. Thanks for the swatches!

    March 31, 2011
  • Aww bummer, I don’t think I like any of those! I don’t happen to like brights in a shimmer form because they look kind of blah, like not strong enough. And the 2 cremes are colors I don’t like. haha!

So glad to see you swatch these early so I know what to get and not get in the new polishes that are coming out!
