NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Kuala Lumpur Review by Guest Blogger Krystal from Polish Galore

NARS Duo Eyeshadow products claim to be richly pigmented, long-wearing and crease-resistant. You can purchase them at Sephora for $32-$33 a piece, so at nearly $17 an eyeshadow, I expect to be absolutely satisfied, with loads of pigment and glitter on my eyes.
They come in a mini mirrored compact in complementary shades, taking out any guess work of what colors work well with others.

NARS Kuala Lumpur contains a “rose gold” on the left and a “boysenberry infused with gold” on the right.
The “rose gold” looks more like a spoiled peach. I was expecting more of a red shade with a hint of gold but got a dirty looking pink instead. However, the “boysenberry infused with gold” was a pretty plum with what looked to be gold glitter which seemed very promising (providing no fallout).
I swatched each shadow dry first, and then used Urban Decay Potion Primer in Eden, a matte primer that doesn’t alter the finish of an eyeshadow.

As you can see in the sun, the “rose gold” barely even shows up, which is why I had to draw a box around it. There is very little difference between the dry and wet swatches and neither shows up well against my skin. I’m not sure if this is just because this color is very close to my skin tone or if it’s the lack of pigment in the product.
The “boysenberry infused with gold” is barely showing when swatched dry (I drew two lines after not being able to see the first) and finally shows some pigment after being used with the primer potion, however all the gold glitter is gone from fallout as well as just not being picked up.

In the shade, you can still just barely see the “rose gold” against my skin, it looks more like a foundation powder than an eyeshadow.
The “boysenberry infused with gold” looks more like a bruise than a pretty purple, all the shimmer is gone and the glitter doesn’t exist.
Overall:
For $33, I’m extremely disappointed and wish I would have returned the product immediately. Not only was there less pigment than I was promised, but I didn’t find this product to wear very well on my eyes either. This has left a very sour taste in my mouth about NARS and I have not purchased any of their other products since. If you wish to check them out, I recommend going to Sephora where you can return the product if you’re not satisfied.

Wow, that purple is downright disappointing! In the package, it looked so pretty and promising.

So agree!
I wonder how they came up with the colors, it’s not like something I’ve seen before in KL and I am originally from KL…
Too bad it’s not that good, because the colors are nice looking in the pan.
Yay for guest posts! Great post Krystal!
That is too bad about the eyeshadows. They did look lovely in the packaging, but you are so right that they look like bruises or nothing at all on the skin. Definitely skipping these.

WOW thats a lot of money for really crappy eye shadows : / I’ve never used NARS eyeshadows myself and don’t think I will after your review…Thanks!
Boo, indeed.
Hope you returned it. Yuck.

Glad you reviewed these. That’s a lot of money for disappointment.
Strange. I have this duo and mine is very pigmented =/
That is extremely disappointing. I would expect more from Nars considering how much the eyeshadow cost.
So sorry yours was rubbish, like Sofia I have the duo and it’s really pigmented on mine too. Actually the rose gold really reminds me of the Mac Melon pigment it’s so strong when it’s wet :/
Very disappointing, especially considering the price tag! I like Nars blush and pressed powder (for on the go touch ups), but I don’t think I’ve tried any of their shadows. Now I’m not so sure if I will. Well, I’d go to Sephora (or as my Bestie and I refer to it, our Toys R Us, lol) and check them out first.
Nars can be hit or miss. When they do it right you can’t beat them but there’s not exactly consistency in their formulas.

Yuck. Those both looked pretty in the palette, but on skin they sort of just look like a skin condition.
looks like old chocolate powder :S

I own about 7 Nars eyeshadow palettes. I love them, and I think they are the best eyeshadows I’ve ever used. However, none of them look like this post when they go on. I wonder if this one was dried out or something.
