MAC Jeanius Collection for Spring 2011 Swatches, Photos and Review

“Is there anything more enduring (besides love and heartbreak) than denim? Jeanius is a celebra- tion of the journey – country cousin to haute couture – the whole world wanted to go on since America made it a national obsession. Since tooth-and-nail workwear jumped the pond in farmer’s overalls to gussy up in the glam of the great Paris couture houses…France may take the credit for creating it in 18th-century Nimes (de Nîmes = DeNim), but bright young American women took it higher! M∙A∙C keeps up with a Jeanius collection of moody blues and indigo ink, the quantum of modern cool, with four new limited-life denimized Eye Shadows, along with new limited-life shades of Lipstick, Lipglass, Blush and Biker Blue & Frayed to Order Nail Lacquer. Like the faux-metal “snap” on the Eye Shadow…completely riveting.”

First off I must say I love the pattern on these eyeshadows, however they are just an overspray, so it won’t last, wah!
They are good sized shadows (think smaller than Peacocky but larger than regular) and all were soft.
White Jeanius is a pale silvery white, with good opacity.
Diva in Distress is a very sheer light blue with shimmer. This one is VERY sheer and kind of chalky, but I managed to make it work in a look (below).
Motorhead is a great deep shimmery blue and extremely opaque. A must have.
Stovepipe is a dark charcoal grey with slight shimmer. It was decently pigmented but not as much as I had hoped for.

Pink Cult

Pink Cult, Overdyed
Pink Cult is a really perfect kind of dusty pink. In the pan it looks more nuetral. On my hand it almost looks too muddy. But on my cheeks it’s really a perfect pink color.
Overdyed is a very bright fuchsia pink. Looks WAY too bright to wear in the pan, but it’s actually quite nice.

Wearing Indigo Pink and Overdyed Blush

Painted On, Docile, Indigo Pink
Painted On is a very pale grey/pink with gold shimmer.
Docile is cool pink with pink shimmer. This is my favorite one and one I already have (from Fabulous Felines collection).
Indigo is a medium deep burgundy with blue overtones. This was not my favorite one, too sheer and didn’t go on evenly (settled into lip lines).

Pretty Please

Acid Wash

Riveting Rose

Acid Wash, Pretty Please, Riveting Rose
Acid Wash is a very sheer grey/beige with shimmer. I would use this mainly under another lipglass most likely since it’s so sheer.
Pretty Please is a pale ballet pink with blue-ish tones. Love this one, though it too is on the sheer side. I already had this one also since it’s in the permanent collection.
Riveting Rose is a dark burgundy with blue pearl. Again as with Indigo Pink, it’s not my favorite color for me. Looks great on my hand (purple) but turns into a red/pink on my lips.

Frayed to Order
Frayed to Order is a pink opalescent matte. Very odd combination, never seen anything quite like it. I kind of like it because I love opalescent colors, but then again it’s quite sheer and I think it would look better shiny. This was two coats and you can clearly see my nail line, so might take three or four to get it opaque if it can even get opaque.

Biker Blue
Biker Blue is a dark blue with massive light blue and purple shimmer. This one I am on the fence about. It started off really watery and sheer, so you definitely need at least three coats (which I did) to achieve depth. I love the color itself, but it bugs me that even with three coats and wrapping the tips, the tips are still lighter than the rest of it.

Overall:
I think there are some good things and bad things about this collection. I think for the eyeshadows, Motorhead is the clear stand-out color and must have. I liked the pale lipglasses and lipsticks, but a few we have seen before and they are sheer. I loved both blushes, they too are must haves for me. I would pass on Frayed to Order unless you love those kinds of colors and Biker Blue is nice, but perhaps not that unique.

Wow, this is a great collection! Loved the looks you did, you look fab.
Frayed To Order is really snazzy but I think Revlon’s Powder Puff is a better choice for a matte opalescent white.
Hi MIghtyLambchop,
Thank you! I don’t think I have Powder Puff, is it in their normal line?
I think it was a limited edition release…I can’t find it at my ulta/drug stores anymore, but I could be wrong.
FYI, Kelly: Powder Puff has become perm, I believe! I don’t see it everywhere, but all of the Targets I have been to have it in the regular display (categorized with the three other Revlon Suedes or mattes or whatever they’re called). It’s amazing!
Frayed to order looks a lot like the new Essie Kisses to Bisses… Really nice as a layering polish on other colors!
Hi Sophie,
Oh yes it would make a good layering color, like over a pink, blue or purple (with a top coat for me, haha)
Yeah I got kisses and bises and its really similar but shiny not matte… Cant wait to try it on a color!
I have been waiting for those polishes to come out since I saw the promo pics. One more week.

Hi Jeannie,
Cool, glad you like them!
Might get Biker Blue, but I’m on the fence about it. I like Motorhead on you, but I hate blue eyeshadow on me.
Motorhead, Pink Cult, and Docile will do just nicely!
Hi SB_Sweetie,
Yes!!!
I really like how the eyeshadow is packaged, but its disappointing that its just sprayed on. Is the button on the eyeshadow(pearl) all the way through or just sprayed on too? I think Pink Cult looks really lovely and I would definitely buy that one. Thanks for swatching
Hi Jenn F.,
I think it’s also sprayed on
I’m loving the lipstick, for sure. I don’t know about blue eyeshadow on me though. I tend to use it very sparingly and stick to blues with a muted gray tone.
Shieldmaiden1196´s last post…My Mixed Marriage
Hi Shieldmaiden1196,
Well Motorhead is definitely very BLUE, but the other two blueish/grey/white ones are pretty light.
I kind of want Biker Blue, even though I promised myself no more MAC polishes.
Chaosbutterfly´s last post…OPI Austin-tatious Turquoise
Hi Chaosbutterfly,
Yeah they aren’t the greatest quality, but the color is nice…
Do you think that Nicole by OPI too rich for you is a dupe for biker blue?
Hi Alexieldivine,
No, that one was much more teal than Biker Blue and didn’t have the same shimmer. Also not as bright as Biker Blue.
I need Biker Blue..seriously!!!
All I want are the blushes but I’m hoping when more swatches start popping up I can find a decent dupe. Thanks for taking time to swatch. I’m a very pale girl and I find your swatches extremely helpful.
I like the overall look of this collection as a whole, but I’m not sure I’ll be buying much, as individually only a few products stand out to me. I do love the denim print on the shadows, too bad it won’t last past a few uses though
Anyway, I like the pale lippies and the blushes. The polishes are both interesting, I was most looking forward to Biker Blue, but now I’m wondering if I don’t already have something similar, can you think of any obvious close dupes?
Love the looks you put together and great swatches, as always!
Holy cow…this collection is so effin cute! I want everything! THanks so much for your input =)
Shimmer´s last post…Milani LiquifEye Metallic Eyeliner Pencil Review
It’s very disappointing that the eyeshadow finish is just an overspray. The lipsticks are pretty. I don’t need another lipstick since I have tons of them. So tempting…….
I really like this collection a lot… The whole Jean motif is too cute!! I’m wishing like everyone else that the metallic shadow colors weren’t just overspray… I’m thinking I’ll pick up at least 2 eyeshadows and the matte polish. Thanks for the fab pix!
Wow!!! So much prettier than I thought a lot of the items would be.
Polarbelle´s last post…I was Naked with Deborah Lippmann in Review
I am loving this collection! I LOVE Frayed to Order! I love the pink in it and Im all about those pearly type colors. BTW, all those colors look so good on you!! Thanks for the post!
I just want to say that I’m really glad that after all the work you’ve put into this blog that it’s blowing up like it is
I’ve been reading since the beginning and it’s so nice to see places like MAC consulting you.
Hi MoLo,
Thank you so much
Favorites are Biker Blue for the polish, Acid Wash for the lippie and Painted On for the lipglass. The embossing wins everywhere on the shadows. That’s damn cute!!
To me, this entire collection fits well together.

Ooooooh, that Biker Blue reminds me of some old colour I had way back in junior high–possibly a Wet n’ Wild. One of my old faves, and I still love the look! Although I prefer the look of a wrapped nail, I always forget to do it, and since I have to keep my nails down tot the skin, it makes it hard to do without getting it all over my fingers, anyway.
I am loving Pink Cult on you!
