Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss Swatches & Review

Revlon Colorburst Gloss Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss Swatches & Review

Revlon has been catching my eye lately with some of their new products. It seems they are not only creating new colors, but also updating their packaging which is a great thing in my book. Will they update their nail polish bottle shapes soon? One can only hope icon smile Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss Swatches & Review

Perusing a Bed Bath and Beyond near me, which recently added a makeup area much to my surprise, I came across these new Colorburst Lipglosses and couldn’t pass them up.

They have about 15 colors now ranging from nude to deep red to pink to brown.

These claim to “make lips pop with 5x more shine than patent leather”. I can tell you that isn’t true, but they are shiny!

These glosses are very unsticky, and they feel very moisturizing. The wear time is pretty great, I wore Hot Pink the other day for about 4 hours and had pretty much no fading at all!

Revlon Wand Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss Swatches & Review

The wand is a little strange on these. It’s a sponge applicator and kind of long. It’s paddle shaped on both sides, which makes applying not hard, just different.

Revlon Peony Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss Swatches & Review
Peony

Peony is a sparkly peach color a little bit more on the sheer side than some of the others, but it definitely shows up. Very pretty, I adore this one.

Revlon Crystal Lilac Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss Swatches & Review
Crystal Lilac

Crystal Lilac is a light pink with a pink/blue opalescent effect. Super pretty and right up my alley!

Revlon Rosepearl Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss Swatches & Review
Rosepearl

Rosepearl is a medium pink/brown with great coverage. It’s more on the warm side than any of these others. This was really opaque and almost felt like a liquid lipstick rather than a gloss.

Revlon Hot Pink Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss Swatches & Review
Hot Pink

Hot Pink is a bright shimmery cool-toned pink that is also pretty opaque. Love it.

Revlon Colorburst Swatches Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss Swatches & Review
L to R: Peony, Crystal Lilac, Rosepearl, Hot Pink

You can see all of these are pretty colored (meaning they aren’t sheer) and I love all four of these colors on me.

I never detected a scent so I went back and smelled the wand and it has a strange kind of plastic smell. However, you would only smell it if you were sniffing the wand, you don’t smell it when it’s on your lips, so I would say that’s really not any reason not to buy them.

Overall:

Color me impressed! I have avoided Revlon makeup for the most part of the last 15 years because I never liked the packaging and always thought the stuff inside would be “meh”. Now I am totally wanting to go back and get more of these as well as some other stuff (which I did actually).

Availability: Drug stores

Price: $5.79

Grade: B

What do you think about Revlon in general and these glosses?

faceoff syfy Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss Swatches & Review
Source: Syfy

Did you catch the new makeup contest on Syfy called Face/Off? It premiered last night and was SO good. The show’s premise is basically that twelve makeup artists are competing with each other each week to win $100,000 dollars and a bunch of professional makeup. These aren’t just regular makeup artists though, these are special effects movie artists, so the challenges they have to face are pretty incredible. The judges have all been in the business for a long time and one of them has won 3 Oscars for her work in movies like Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and the Pirates of the Caribbean series. I am so glad this is on, been waiting for a show like this forever!

Have a good one!

I haven’t bought much Revlon in recent years either, a few polishes, I got those glitter top coats they had at the end of last year. I’ve always associated Revlon with my (in junior high) much beloved ‘Frosted Brownie’ lipstick, which thankfully has been discontinued (but you CAN still find it on ebay, I was curious, lol).
These look pretty promising though, might have to check them out, I actually kinda like the Rosepearl color. I did notice that the tube looks a lot like the Chanel tube, so it’s nice that they seem to be updating their packaging, finally.

Oh wow…Frosted Brownie. That brings me back. Loved that! Also the super frosty, super light pink one, I can’t remember the name though. :)

Oh man… I know which one you’re talking about too! I can’t remember the name, but it was scary frosty, lol! The name will come to me at some point… maybe…. lol.

  • There’s been a couple of drugstore brands that are upping their quality (*cough* Wet n Wild *cough*). I do like the doefoot applicator on this one along with the colors.

  • Revlon is not sold here unfortunately but I have a few lipsticks I’ve ordered from the US and I like them a lot. These glosses looks very nice, I might order one or two of them!

Nice to see a drugstore makeup review because most of the time they do not have testers. I saw the syfy series advertised last night but forgot to watch it. Maybe it will be on HULU.

Oooh! I am so glad that you reviewed and liked these. I hadn’t touched Revlon in yrs as well (my first lippie was Toast of New York in high school!) but I was hooked in with the new packaging. I already have 4 of these glosses, but that Rosepearl one is calling my name :) Curious if you’ll review the lipsticks in the same line?

These are so pretty and very unexpected… I never buy Revlon makeup, but I will check these out. Actually, all 4 look great on you and the price is awesome. Thanks!

Hey, They look good but how do they taste? Usually the drugstore glosses taste bad so I never buy them, I will buy a $15 one. Thanks for the tip on the new show, it right up my alley.

    January 27, 2011
    • Hi Micki,

I didn’t notice any bad taste at all, and I usually do also with drugstore items.

I haven’t bought anything from Revlon in ages. Hot Pink is really flattering on you!
That show looks AMAZING! I have something new to add to my record list :)

  • The hot pink color would look great over MAC’s Girl About Town lipstick. Great review!

I really don’t need any more glosses, but these look great, especially the Hot Pink. The price is good, also. I agree that drugstore brands are getting better. I picked up a Maybelline lip stain a couple weeks ago and love it.

Oooohhhh…these are pretty! I’ll have to keep an eye out for them. Also, my hubby and I watched Face Off last night and it was super cool! :)

I purchased about four of these a couple of weeks ago at Ulta and was really impressed with them. I am such a sucker for lip glosses :) !

I’m a fan of Revlon’s polish – khaki zing is my all-time fav that I think is now discontinued :( .

I am excited that there is no stickiness and moisturizing in the glosses!! I like all of the swatches!

    Thanks for posting!

I think all of the old ‘zing’ colors are discontinued, although I think they throw a bit of ‘zing’ on things now and then (say that 10 times fast). My favorite was Mango Zing, awesome orange color that flashed purple, can’t find it anymore either… :-(

I keep looking at these glosses and I’m curious on these.
But see your swatches makes me want them even more! :D

And Face Off was AMAZING :D
gahh I can’t wait until next week.

I love these lipglosses. I have crystal lilac, and sunset peach. I think they smell like just like pure vanilla. The first time I smelled them I felt like I was in the kitchen making icing.

The applicator actually reminds me a lot of the Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss released by Chanel last year… and so do the packaging… But well, all these are shimmery.

From your swatches, I think I will most likely get Peony, Crystal Lilac and Hot Pink… welll if Revlon has decided to release them in Asia! :)

  • I’m so glad that you commented on the scent. I remember when I was in high school, I tried a Revlon lipstick and it smelled (and somehow tasted) really gross. Maybe I’ll dive into Revlon lip products again now that they’ve done some reformulation!

  • I’m loving Rosepearl, and thank you for up front answering the question I was going to ask; about the taste/smell. I avoided Revlon lipsticks and glosses for a long time because they seemed to have an off-putting smell but if these don’t I have a feeling Rosepearl will be travelling around in my purse soon!

I’ve been looking for a cheaper alternative to Nars Orgasm….Peony looks like a possibilty? Do you have the Nars to comment on?

    January 28, 2011
    • Hi Jen,

I do. I think Orgasm is more pigmented and maybe slightly more peachy, but let me check when I get home and let you know for sure.
