NYX One Night in Morocco Smokey Palette Swatches & Review

NYX’s One Night in Morocco smokey eye palette is infused with eight smokey colors from pale sand to deep black, and everything in-between. It’s also got a medium colored concealer and little surprise pull-out drawer with four sheer pink lip glosses.

What I love about this palette is the inclusiveness it offers. You have a variation of looks from light and natural to super dark and sultry, and I like that they include the glosses. The concealer is a cute idea, but pretty limited since it will only work for certain skin tones.

I love the packaging, the small yet thick and sturdy glossy black containers. A fairly large mirror. Very cute.

L to R, first row: Pale white, light cool grey, dark black, medium cool taupe

The shadows in this palette had medium color payoff. They weren’t quite as opaque as some of their other ones I have swatched. However they still felt very smooth and finely milled. The darker the color, the more patchy they got, but they were not unworkable.

L to R, second row: Light vanilla/white, dark, cool chocolate brown, medium warm brown, light taupe

These ones applied a little less patchy and smoothly than the black and taupe in the first row. I especially love the second one here.

L to R: Bubblegum pink, raspberry pink, apricot, rose pink

All the lip colors were very sheer and looked pretty similar on my skin except for the apricot one. This is quite a few swipes of color to get it to show the differences on camera. I think they compliment the shadows nicely, but are a little too sheer for my tastes.

I think this palette is nice, but not great. I am sure I already have colors like this in another palette. If you don’t though, and also like sheer lip colors and don’t mind working a bit with the colors then this might be for you!

What do you think about these colors?

This looks like a nice, basic palette.

This is a convenient little palette to take when traveling. Was thinking about buying it, but I already have a few smokey-eye palettes with similar colours (and I’m trying to be good…hehe).

I have to say that your photographs are outstanding – very sharp. Sorry if you’ve answered this a thousand times, but what kind of lighting setup do you use? And what do you use for your background when you take photos of the products?

      Hi Glockoma,

Thank you! I have a standard white light box (that I bought on Amazon, it’s not home made) and I have three lights. Two on the sides of the tent and another coming over the top, so it’s lit all around. The background is just white. It works great for makeup photos, not so good with nail polish…Drives me bonkers!

I like the packaging and the big mirror.

Is the “concealer” too creamy to be a base? I would get the shadow into it & muck it all up… The palette looks like it might have a nice *snap* to it though. =]

Cute packaging but wish the color payoff was better.
