Sonia Kashuk for Target Reach For The Stars Nail Collection Holiday 2010

Sonia Kashuk will soon be releasing a new holiday nail collection trio called Reach For The Stars for Target. Yes holiday, already…On that note, I wonder if most people understand that we are still in summer until September 23rd? It seems as though most people think summer ends in August, but it doesn’t! And yes, fall is end of September through end of December, even though a lot of people feel as though November/December are winter. THEN winter starts on December 22nd. Ok now that our 2nd grade lesson is out of the way…:)
Target is in fact the only place you can find this collection, so I am sorry if you fall in love and don’t have access to Target stores!
This is my first time trying out Sonia Kashuk nail colors and I am kind of disappointed. Let me clarify. The colors were beautiful, I loved all three. The brush quality was pretty bad though. All three of these brushes had wonky pieces that stuck out at weird angles. Also they felt really cheap and “plastic-y” when applying the polish. They did cover nicely in two coats.

Gold
Gold is a gorgeous foil gold with lots of shimmer. This is kind of on the fence between being warm and cool. It walks the line. For that I love it because it makes it more wearable. I love the foil effect of this baby.

Gray
Gray (I prefer using the British spelling of grey) is a deep brownish/grey with loads of silver, pink and green shimmer. This is less foil, more metallic. I love this because the grey borders on a deep brown taupe, it’s very unique.

Red
Red is a bright ruby red with red and silver shimmer. Gorgeous!! I love this red, it looks so shiny and jelly-like. It applied like a dream, except for the crappy brush.
Overall:
I loved the colors, even if they aren’t all that unique, and the formula was good. But I expect a lot higher quality brushes coming from Sonia Kashuk.

How do you feel about these holiday colors?
-VV

How unique names! *not* They should team up with China Glaze or OPI, I bet they have lots of unused names better then these.
The gold one was a little pretty but overall they did nothing at all for me. Kind of meh.

I’ve tried 3 polishes from this brand and never had the brush issue, that’s too bad that yours were jacked up. I’ll probably pick up Gray, I’m loving that one.

The colors are beautiful. Love the gray one.
I kind of like the red one but overall, I’m not that impressed with these. Hopefully, they come out with more unique colors in the future; I hear Sonia Kashuk is a really good quality brand.

Ooh! I like Gray…but feel like I already have a couple of polishes similar to it. The Gold looks really pretty on you, btw!

Oooooh, I love the gray one!
The grey one is really pretty. I adore it! Sucks that the brushes are awful though. In that sort of situation do you end up getting a paint brush or something else to apply?

Hi Phyrra,
Well I usually cut off the wonky bristles and that helps. I have applied polishes with crappy brushes with another clean brush I don’t use anymore, and that does work.
The gray one is really pretty! I love it.
WRT the summer/fall thing, I think people feel like summer is over in August because school starts in September. And having to go to school in summer is just plain cruel, so it must be fall by then, right? : P

Hi Princesspessa Grassa,
Yeah it’s all a marketing thing “back to school=fall”. In college I never went back to school until it really was fall, because we were on the quarter system
I think I can handle the crappy brush if it means I can have Gray. It’s sooo pretty, I love the sparkly pewter type of finish. Do you know of any comparable colors that have a better brush though?
Hi Breanna,
No as I said, that color is pretty unique!
These are pretty but not unique. I just bought some other sonya kashuks and they cost me $4.99 are they going up in price for this collection?
Hi rmcandlelight,
These are $9.99 for the set of three, so I think it’s actually not too expensive compared to the single ones.
I like Gray! nice swatches =]
idk why but none of the targets near me carry sonia’s polishes *pout*. i want this taupe one, it looks great! it’s so lame the brushes were wonky, i HATE that!

Gray is the winner here! Beautiful.
$9 each? or for the set?
I like this collection, the color palette isn’t that different, but the shades with the added glitter variations is nice!
Hi Jackie S,
It’s a trio set so $9.99 for all of them.
Awww, too bad…I was hoping they’d be as good as her brushes especially since the trio’s $10 bucks.
Yeah these are really pretty!
our target doesn’t carry these but I have ordered them online, so there is hope for those of us in rural/more insular areas! I bought the blue colors and the purple and I concur with the brush complaint. The formula is really nice and lasted quite a while on me (this is unusual, even with brands like essie and the like) so I think that negates the brush problem.
Are these available now? I know she just released 5 colors for fall, but I haven’t seen these. Do you have a release date?
Hi abc,
They didn’t have the release date on the press release. I am guessing maybe in September/October they will be available.
These are cute I love the Gray one.
Random grey/gray story. I once ran a Halloween website for a friend and in the listing of Halloween haunts I mistakenly listed one as Greystone Manor instead of Graystone Manor. OH GOD CALL THE AUTHORITIES, right? The woman running the haunt sent me a nasty email about it. So I spent the next few weeks changing the name around to things like Greystone Phillips before eventually leaving it as Gray Davis, Mayor.
Sorry for the random story, haha. Love these polishes though!

Those are really lovely colors! I’m sad they had wonky brushes.
I also had an awful experience with Sonia Kashuk’s polishes. I bought their basecoat and it was just terrible. After a few hours at work my nail polish would start to peel from the edges of my nail and eventually it would be come so annoying for me that I’d have to peel ALL the nail polish off that one nail in one fell swoop. What basecoat does that! Be weary of it!

I don’t think I’m dissappointed that I’m nowhere near a Target. As a collection there is really nothing unique about it. Gray is clearly the winner and I’d pick it up if I happened to stumble across it. As a side note, I use “grey” as well lol.
I really like that gold. I haven’t heard many good things about her polish.
Hi!
I just came across your post.. thank you for reviewing! I would really love if you could contact me about these brushes. I did see you said you cut off the wonky hairs. This should 100% not be like that. I just checked all my samples in our office and they are all perfect. If you still have a sample with this issue I would like to replace yours so we can get this issue figured out.
thanks!

Hi Kristin,
Thanks for writing! I will check them when I get home and take a peek at the brushes. I did clip off the stray hairs on them though. I will keep you posted!
I just looked through our entire stock and I found several samples like this! THANK YOU THANK YOU for being so honest on your post. We would have never found them!!! This is 100% not the approved brush that we use in production and we are contacting our manufacturer ASAP. If you email me your address I will send you replacements.
Kristin
Hi,
You are welcome. I am glad you found them and this isn’t supposed to be the actual brush! My email is kelly@vampyvarnish.com. Once I get the new ones and try the regular brush, I can edit the post with an update. Best!
Good to see they are getting the brush problem sorted. Not keen on these particular colors but if they are available in Oz at Target, I’ll check them out.
