OCC Lip Tar Swatches & Review

OCC Lip Tar1 OCC Lip Tar Swatches & Review

While the name might not be politically correct (or one I think is “cute”) the products by Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics are pretty darn cool. Oh and also they are Vegan & cruelty-free, yay!

As you may or may not know, OCC has this really cool lip stuff called Lip Tar. It’s kind of a mix between a lipstick and a lip gloss. You get the opacity and vivid colors of a lipstick, while still getting the ease of application and glossiness as you would with a lip gloss. I reviewed their gorgeous red Lip Tar called NSFW and their black one called Tarred in the past here. I have also reviewed their very nice nail polishes as well. Note: I saw a Tweet from them that they are coming out with new nails colors soon, I can’t wait to see what they have in store!

I decided to try some more of the Lip Tar’s since they now have a few more wearable colors. They have about 26 colors in total now. The great thing about these is that you can mix them to create pretty much any color under the sun. But I am lazy, so I prefer to wear them straight out of the tube.

Speaking of the tube, these come in an 8ML tube with an angled tip to squeeze the product out of. You only need the SMALLEST amount of the product to get serious coverage. I’m not kidding, a tiny amount. I find that using a lip brush is much easier than applying straight out of the tube.

Most of the ones I tried recently were really smooth and evened out really nicely. Two of them were on the “chalkier” side and I had some issues with, which I’ll discuss below.

OCC Swatch1 OCC Lip Tar Swatches & Review
L to R: Uber, Hush, Divine

  • Uber is a deep kind of greyed out taupe
  • Hush is a bridal pink
  • Divine is a bright pink flamingo

OCC Swatch2 OCC Lip Tar Swatches & Review
L to R: Cha Cha, Memento, Pageant

  • Cha Cha is an apricot/coral
  • Memento is a mauve pink
  • Pageant is a bright fuchsia pink

OCC Uber OCC Lip Tar Swatches & Review
Uber

Uber is kind of a strange color, which is what drew me into buying it. I love taupe anything, and when I saw pics of it online it reminded me of one of my favorite MAC lipsticks from long ago called Folio. They no longer make Folio and I have half a tube left, and have been looking for something similar. This could be it! If you prefer to not look dead, then this might not be the color for you, ha!

OCC Hush OCC Lip Tar Swatches & Review
Hush

Hush is the perfect antique looking pink. Not TOO pink, not too bright. It’s like a great pink neutral and this is probably the one I will wear the most of these.

OCC Divine OCC Lip Tar Swatches & Review
Divine

Divine is on the bright side and a little chalky. I didn’t get as even a coverage with this as with most of the others for some reason. I still love the color and will try and work with it!

OCC Cha Cha OCC Lip Tar Swatches & Review
Cha Cha

Cha Cha is the only one I can say I won’t be wearing. Of these six, this is the least wearable color in my opinion. It’s VERY bright, much brighter than this pic depicts, and it almost looks clownish. It’s definitely not a color you would think of as “natural” looking. Also I had the most application issues with this one. It was chalky and not as smooth going on.

OCC Memento OCC Lip Tar Swatches & Review
Memento

Memento is another very pretty and wearable pink. This is probably the one I will wear second most of these. Love it!

OCC Pageant OCC Lip Tar Swatches & Review
Pageant

Pageant is a super bright, cool fuchsia, which I adore. It’s definitely wearable, but really bright and obvious. It’s the kind of color you wear when you are feeling bold!

Overall:

I am smitten with these and want to try more of them. I am just amazed at how little amount you need for such opaque coverage!

Have you tried Lip Tar yet? Which ones are calling your name?

Hi Kelly! I was wondering what the wear is for these. I’ve had really bad luck finding something opaque that lasts through lunch and I’m hoping these will do it since Hush looks fantastic.

Hi Kelly! I was wondering what the wear time was like for these since I’ve been looking for something opaque that’ll last me through lunch and I’d like to try out Hush. Also, is there any scent? Is it strong?

    August 18, 2010
    • Hi Connie,

They last a really long time on me like 3-4 hours. There is a scent, it’s peppermint and it’s definitely there but I wouldn’t say super strong. But if you are sensitive to peppermint then I would say you might not like them.

I wore nothing but MAC Taupe and Folio (and sometimes Desire) lipsticks back in the day and have been wanting to revisit Folio, only to learn it has been discontinued. I wear polish everyday but haven’t worn lipstick in ages and now you’ve piqued my interest in OCC. I think I will add Uber to my cart when I go make my first order for Blackboard and Swamp Thing polishes.

I simply love hush! it’s juste as pale as I like and it suits my fair skin really well

Love Uber! It reminds me of a lipstick I wore in the 90′s. It was by Lord & Berry and I loved it but not everyone did. They said I looked dead. The rest I really like except for Cha Cha. That is a strange shade. I’m not sure of the tubes. I prefer lipsticks. I may try one sometime.

  • They have a shade called ‘Grandma’ thats a gorgeous tangerine (even though the site says coral) that I’ve been eyeing…your review may have pushed me over the edge.
