Barielle Style In Argyle Fall 2010 Nail Collection Swatches & Review

Barielle’s new fall collection for 2010 is called Style in Argyle, and I’ve got your first peek at it. It features six warm, cozy colors that you can slip on as easily as a sweater.

If the idea of slipping on a sweater in mid-summer (which technically it still is) is repulsive, then lucky you! We here in the Bay Area have had the coldest summer in 40 years, so sweaters don’t sound too shabby right now! icon smile Barielle Style In Argyle Fall 2010 Nail Collection Swatches & Review

First things first. The new logo! Barielle is sporting a new logo featuring a horse and man jumping over the “B” in the name. I really like this new look; I think it’s looks much more modern and hip than the old logo.

Second thing I noticed was the colors looked…bland? At first I wasn’t all that excited because they are all in the brown family (except one) and I thought they looked a little boring. But I was wrong. icon smile Barielle Style In Argyle Fall 2010 Nail Collection Swatches & Review

Thirdly the formula was pretty good on these. Most of them applied really nicely in just two coats. They weren’t too thick or thin and I didn’t have any streaking or pooling issues. One was a little patchy but blame the user not the polish.

Here is how they describe the colors in the press release:

  • Cashmere Or Loose Me – a soft brown with copper pearl
  • Tight Knit – a purple brown creme
  • Aura Angora – a royal gold creme
  • Unraveled Rust – a burnt rust creme
  • Wool You Marry Me? – a plum brown creme
  • Cowl Of The Wild - a mushroom taupe creme

Barielle Cashmere Or Loose Me Barielle Style In Argyle Fall 2010 Nail Collection Swatches & Review
Cashmere Or Loose Me

Cashmere Or Loose Me is a light, cafe au lait brown with soft, subtle copper shimmer. I wasn’t that aware of the shimmer until I took this outside and saw it in the sun. Then I realized it was a lot prettier than my initial impression. I don’t have many browns this shade and certainly not with the copper shimmer, which makes it more unique. I think this is very flattering with my skin also. This was two coats.

Barielle Cowl Of The Wild Barielle Style In Argyle Fall 2010 Nail Collection Swatches & Review
Cowl Of The Wild

Cowl Of The Wild is a medium mushroom taupe. Yay mushroom taupe! This is a little less mushroom and a little more brown then a lot of other taupes we’ve seen, if that makes sense. This was the one that was a wee bit patchy but it was my fault because I was applying it too fast. This is a very pretty color, I like it a lot. This was two coats, but maybe three would be ideal since it’s a little thinner than some of the others.

Barielle Aura Angora Barielle Style In Argyle Fall 2010 Nail Collection Swatches & Review
Aura Angora

Aura Angora is a mustard yellow creme. They describe it as a gold, but to my eye it’s very mustard yellow. This is not the same as other mustard yellows we have seen recently though (butter LONDON Bumster for instance). This has a lot more orange/gold in it than that one does, it’s definitely a warm color. I liked it in the bottle right away because it was so unique and interesting. However the yellow in it doesn’t suit my skin tone that well. This was two coats and I must say, very opaque, so could be one.

Barielle Wool You Marry Me Barielle Style In Argyle Fall 2010 Nail Collection Swatches & Review
Wool You Marry Me?

Wool You Marry Me? is a dark plum/brown creme. This is a pretty color, very fall-esque, but I don’t think all that original. I think I have a few like it already in my stash. This was two coats.

Barielle Tight Knit Barielle Style In Argyle Fall 2010 Nail Collection Swatches & Review
Tight Knit

Tight Knit is a medium purple/brown creme. The purple in this is on the more lavender side, I think. This is really quite pretty on, and I totally loved it as soon as I applied it. Very flattering. This was two coats.

Barielle Unraveled Rust Barielle Style In Argyle Fall 2010 Nail Collection Swatches & Review
Unraveled Rust

Unraveled Rust is a dark chocolate brown/red creme. Gorgeous. I have a thing about dark brown creme colors on nails and on my walls. My living room is painted a color very similar, but slightly more cool. Anyways, I adore this color on me. This was two coats.

Overall:

I think this is a pretty nice collection for fall, especially if you love brown tones and a creme finish. Some of these might be colors you have seen before but there are some stand outs. The must haves for me are: Tight Knit, Cashmere Or Loose Me and Unraveled Rust. If you don’t already own a million taupes (or just like having them all) then Cowl Of The Wild might be nice. If you go for unusual colors and can pull off a very yellow/gold color Aura Angora is a very unique color.

These do look cozy! Beautiful swatches, VV. I am drawn to the mustard yellow, but I don’t think it would work with my skin tone either. The “Tight Knit” is another favorite, but I already have Essie’s “Angora Cardi,” and I think that will be close enough. This collection reminds me of Zoya’s “Wonderful.” Lots of similarities. I’m getting excited for fall!

    • Hi SB_Sweetie,

It makes me long for fall also. But then again I just want SUMMER first! ;)

I hear you! I’m in SoCal, and we’re wondering where the sun has gone…

  • Ulta sells Barielle? I’ve never seen it there! I really love browns but it seems like there are just so many this fall and I feel like I already own these shades…I’m kinda browned out I guess lol. But I do really like yellow! I’ll probably pick that one up!

    • Hi Jen,

Yeah they do at some Ulta’s. I don’t have one near me though.

  • I kinda find this collection boring, but I am not fond of cremes, nor am I a fan of brown.

Wow! I was wondering what Barielle would come up with, but these are kinda boring. I love browns but there is nothing special about these :( And, yes, being in the Santa Cruz County area, it’s near raining over here. Not August weather at all!

For some reason, I hate looking at the collection all together. It looks…like a spice rack or something. But I really like Aura Angora and Tight Knit and think I’ll pick them up!

  • “Cashmere or loose me”, is the only color that has caught my eye!

    I love the sparkle!

  • I LOVE Cashmere Or Loose Me!!! I need to get it! :-) That’s the only one I really like though.

First, I love the new bottle logo! It looks so chic. Secondly, did they lower the price?? I swear that Barielle polish used to be $8/bottle.

Third, sadly, I hate all of these colors. I suppose that’s god news for my wallet because there are so many other polishes still on my wish list, but I am still disappointed that I don’t like a single color from this collection. Browns just aren’t my thing.

I’m loving Tight Knight and Unraveled Rust! It’s been a cold summer in Oregon and currently raining, so I have sweaters and fall on the brain too! :) Thanks for posting where they are available; it really helps and I know exactly where Ulta is….

  • Lovely swatches! For the most part I’m not really a huge fan of these colors though. I do like Cashmere Or Loose Me (don’t they mean lose though?). The shimmer in this shade makes it interesting!

They spelled Lose wrong …. Barielle Proofreader’s FAIL.

    August 10, 2010
    • Hi ReddHead,

They spelled it that way in various press releases and on the bottles. Not sure if it was a mistake or not…

The name of the collection immediately reminded me of Essie’s last fall/winter collection, and some of the colors do, as well. They’re okay, but nothing that would entice me to pay for shipping :)

I wanted to add that, between CG Vintage Vixen, OPI Swiss and the RBL Preorder, I feel like I’ve pretty much completed my fall polish haul (though I’ll probably get the minis of the new Essie collection when they’re available)… and it’s still 90 degrees here in NYC. Crazy.

OMG this is horrid. These are not my colors. However, that nasty putrid mustard yellow has shot me through the heart and I MUST have it. I love it. It matches a 1970s couch in my basement!!

  • I wish my Ulta had Barielle! Actually, my wallet probably doesn’t wish that haha. I love the new logo, very chic. I’m not into brown at all though so this collection is a big pass for me. DId they lower their price? I thought it had been $8

I usually like their collections but this one isn’t calling to me? So far the only one that has any appeal to me at all is the “cashmere or loose me”. It could just be a sign that I have too much polish already ;)

First, ew ew ew ew ewwwwwwwww. At least there is one collection I won’t be spending any money on this fall. “Style in Argyle” is such a cute collection name and this collection totally does not deserve a cute name like that.

Second, I’ve been to at least 5 Ulta’s in the Phoenix area and I haven’t seen Barielle at any of them.

Third, Kelly, I’m so jealous of the weather California’s been having. We’ve had an unusually sticky summer in Phoenix and it’s been way more miserable than normal. I can’t wait for cooler temps.

    • Hi Alison: Apologies but just had to make another comment. I disagree and think this is a fabulous collection from Barielle. Yes, they are a fairly new company but some of the polishes in this collection are nor that bad, are they? I mean unraveled rust is a pretty chocolate brown shade, (if you love darker tones.) plus, the red creme of woo you marry me is a gorgoeus burgundy, (maybe close to OPI’s Romeo and Joliet, which I love that shade. I mean no harm just because Barielle has a “B” rating on this collection, they do have some nice color shades. Nameste.

    • Apologies Alison: I just realized this right after posting my comments to you. Just about everyone disliked the collection as well as yourself. I made a mistake that everyone has a right to their own opinion, and like a fool, stuck my biog foot in my mouth. I don’t have any right to say to you, I disagree with your opinion. So please forgive me. Barielle has been one of my favorite companies ever since ALU.com web blogger, Michelle Mismas had her signature collection developed with her expertise by Barielle Cosmetics called, “Shades.” Which has nothing to do with this collection. Your right, this collection may have too many browns and other colors you didn’t like. Nameste.

Love the Cashmere. The rest I have plenty of others like them. I’m very attracted to the browns! Will be tough to resist them.
