Icing Limited Edition Black Glitter Nail Polish Swatches & Review

Today I’ve some some slightly older limited edition Icing swatches of a black glitter collection.

I think these came out last last year, but I only came across them recently and liked what I saw.

The bottles are on the small side at 0.40 oz, but not what I would classify as a true “mini” bottle. I believe the set was only like $8.00 because it was in the sale bin and the only one left.

The formula started off good but then after the first two colors, it deteriorated rapidly. Most were very thick and sticky and kind of glooped on, very messily. Oh well!

Blackened Purple

Blackened Purple is a black with tons of purple micro-glitter. This is an outstanding color! It totally glows, is very pretty and cool looking and I don’t think I have another one quite like it. The formula on this was really great no issues and two coats.

Blackened Blue

Blackened Blue is a black with light blue micro-glitter. This one also applied with no problems and I really like it. This was two coats.

Blackened Gold

Blackened Gold is a black with gold/olive green micro-glitter. This was the one I was the most excited about because of the olive green glitter but it was TERRIBLE as far as formula. It was really thick and gloopy, ick. I had some cuticle drag here as well. This was three coats. Still love the color though!

Blackened Brown

Blackened Brown is a black with copper/brown colored micro-glitter. This formula was even worse than the gold one. It was a downright mess in fact. This was four thick, awful coats, but the color is fabulous :)

Blackened Green

Blackened Green is a black with sea-green micro-glitter. It’s dark and sexy, isn’t it? I love this color and luckily the formula wasn’t too bad with this one. This was two coats.

You might still be able to find these in the sale bin at a local Claire’s, which is where the sell Icing polish, if you’re interested!

      Hi Naomi,

Yeah they were easy to remove also, bonus!

      HI Phyrra,

I knew you would appreciate the purple one :)

  • July 16, 2010

Purple and blue look the best. I think I’d buy the blue one. I’m really into blues at the moment.

    • July 16, 2010

      Hi Rosered,

Blues are great, I have so many and none clash with my skin tone :)

  • July 16, 2010

I love them! They would be been a better addition to the MAC Style Black collection.

    • July 16, 2010

      Hi Erica,

Oh you mean if MAC had some out with these instead? Yeah MAC needs to get on the glitter bandwagon and come up with some cool ones!

  • July 16, 2010

aaw how gorgeous is the purple glitter!! So stunning on your nails!

      Hi Schneevante,

I dig Icing polishes but I detest minis in general so I passed on these. I also don’t like the fact that they don’t have shade names!

      Hi Belle,

I don’t normally get mini’s either but these were so cheap and looked cool. I thought the names were the numbers on the bottom of the bottle, but two of them sat “14”. Blah.

A lot of blogs have been swatching Icing nail polishes…I might have to go try and find some. I liked Blackened Blue. Blackened brown looks sort of like Fortune Teller, minus the Hexagonal glitter.

      Hi Serena,

      Agree about Fortune Teller!

  • July 16, 2010

I picked up that same set awhile back when I found it in the sale bin. I had basically forgotten about them until I saw this so I need to dig thouse out!

    • July 16, 2010

      Hi riss,

Yeah they were really spot on for the colors, the formula needs some work though!

  • July 16, 2010

Oops – I seem to be having trouble spelling today 😉

  • July 16, 2010

They’re all amazing–but Blackened Purple is, just, GAH. Love. I’d like to see it swatched next to Lippmann Collection Bad Romance.

    Hi Kelly:

Love these mini’s blackened purple and green as gorgeous colors. You found these at Claire’s’ mini polish set of five? Have to look sometime. Thanks for the swatches. Very pretty nails looks great on you. Have a great weekend.

    Mc Huggs :)

  • July 16, 2010

Oh wow, those ARE pretty fantastic aren’t they! I’ll have to make a trip to Claire’s and keep my fingers crossed :)

  • July 18, 2010

I like blackened green the most! But I’m too lazy to go to Claire’s unless I REALLY like it, plus it sounds like the formula wasn’t the best.

  • July 19, 2010

I didn’t even know these had come out until I saw your swatches. I love them all and started hunting them down. Sadly, I haven’t been able to find them at any of my local Icings. Great swatches tho! :)

    • July 19, 2010

      Hi Perla,

They don’t come out until the beginning of August, I believe.

  • July 22, 2010

The blue and the purple look like knock-offs of the new Deborah Lippmann glitters, bad romance and across the universe… Icing does that a lot though I know they made a knock off Alice in Wonderland collection with the exact same shades as OPI’s

    • July 22, 2010

      Hi Jujubear,

Actually the glitter in The Icing ones are nothing like the glitter in the new Lippmann’s. Hers have huge hexagonal glitter chunks, it’s not just micro-glitter, and Across The Universe has green hexagonal glitter.

  • July 22, 2010

These are really awesome, and not like anything I have at the moment. Sadly, it seems Claire’s outside the US don’t carry this line at all. :(

They look like milani – Fairy Tale, Spellbinding, Magical etc :)
