American Apparel Nail Lacquer Summer 2010 Swatches & Review

Hey everyone!

Been awhile since I have been able to post any polish so today I’ve got some fun new colors from American Apparel for summer 2010.

The formula on these is really, really great. They have their stuff down! All of these were only two coats for full opacity and one could have been just one coat. The lighter colors look like they will be a hot streaky mess, but they are actually very even. I was super impressed!

Read on for swatches!

American Apparel Summer Peach American Apparel Nail Lacquer Summer 2010 Swatches & Review
Summer Peach

Summer Peach is a light peachy/nude. This was the first of these collection that I swatched and I truly thought it was going to be horrible, but I was so wrong. Even with just one coat, it was very opaque and smooth. It’s not my favorite color on me personally, but could see the appeal on those with a different skin tone.

American Apparel Butter American Apparel Nail Lacquer Summer 2010 Swatches & Review
Butter

Butter is a light, cool lemon yellow. I love this kind of yellow, with not much gold in it, and amazingly, there was barely a streak at all! This is probably the least streakiest yellow I have ever used.

American Apparel LEsprit American Apparel Nail Lacquer Summer 2010 Swatches & Review
L’Esprit

L’Esprit is a light lavender pastel. This is a really pretty color and suits my skin nicely, though I do feel I have a lot of other colors like this.

American Apparel Malibu Green American Apparel Nail Lacquer Summer 2010 Swatches & Review
Malibu Green

Malibu Green is a bright, teal green. This is a gorgeous color and the best of the bunch. This was so opaque I could have used just one coat, but I did two here.

Overall I think these colors are pretty great and the formula is outstanding. There are also a few other colors in this collection that I don’t have.

You can find these on American Apparel’s website now.

Whaddya think?

I got Malibu Green and L’Esprit a few weeks ago plus California Trooper (I think was the name). I love them all and they kind of worked well together. They definitely do fun colors at AA.

nice green- thanks for the head up on the staining i have a ? have you tried bubble white for stains-seems pricey but if it works its for me- i also read that dishsoap and peroxide do the trick

    • HI aaminahs mom,

I haven’t tried that. I very rarely get stains and they usually only last for a few hand washings.

  • I think it’s amazing that they have succeeded in manufacturing pastels with such opacity. I really like them and the formula is clearly hugely impressive.

    • Hi Jen,

Yeah and they look like they would be really sticky also, but they aren’t.

  • Nice to hear that the formula is so good! I’ve been debating whether to try some of these, and it looks like an AA order is in my future. :)

American Apparel has really terrible business practices and I don’t want to support them, so I’ll just have to franken my own version of these!

Hope it works out for ya!

They are fab, aren’t they? :)

  • SB_sweetie

Love these on you! I can relate to AA polishes staining. I rarely have this problem, but “Peacock” stained so badly that I have only used it once. It must be hard to get such great opacity without staining. “Malibu Green” is my favorite here. Thanks for swatching, and I hope things have settled down…

    June 28, 2010
    • Hi SB_sweetie,

Thanks! Things have settled down and everything is pretty much back to normal. Except 50% of my house :)

Nice swatches! I have Summer Peach and I really like it. I am fair with cool toned hands…and it ends up looking nice on me.

      Thank you!

  • Serena

They look pretty, but none of them stand out as must haves for me. Did you experience staining with Malibu Green? The Nailphile swatched some of these and she had green fingers for a couple days!

    June 28, 2010
    • Hi Serena,

Yes it definitely stained but disappeared after a few hand washings. I only had it on a few minutes though!

      June 28, 2010
  • Carrie

I’m wearing Malibu Green now and I love it. I put Pure Ice Heartbreaker over it to give it a little something extra, but it doesn’t really need it. I still have to try out Peacock, but I am very impressed with this color and formula.

    June 28, 2010
    • Hi Carrie,

Nice, glad you are liking it!

      June 28, 2010
  • Ooh I love the L’Esprit one since it’s lavender/periwinkle – my favorite color! And the Malibu Green one is nice too. I love the 80s logo on the polish!

I have Butter and Malibu Green in my untried pile…looking forward to them. I am excited about a non-streaky yellow!

I want the butter one the most but I would take all of them. :)

I tried Butter and L’Esprit and I thought the formula was awful – very streaky and runny! Seemed different that the formula on the winter colors.

    June 30, 2010
    • Hi Jane,

Oh man sorry your bottles didn’t work out for you! Mine were really nice, which surprised me because they looked like they were going to be a mess!

  • I really like how Malibu Green looks on your nails, but I really don’t care for the other colours – pastels aren’t my thing.
