Vampy Varnish Fav’s Featuring: Yellow

VV Top Yellow Image Vampy Varnish Favs Featuring: Yellow

Happy Monday morning!

I hope you had a fantastic weekend. Mine was ok, although it rained like cats and dogs ALL day long Sunday. I can’t wait for the rainy season to just end already!

On that note, because the weather has been fantastic while I am at work and horrible on weekends, I have not been able to swatch anything lately. So this week I am going to focus on bringing you some more of my “Top 5″ (or 10 as the case may be) posts. I think you like these, so I hope you stick around and check them out!

Today’s top 5 is yellow, and let me tell you I had a hard time with this one! For once it was hard for me to find 5 yellows I could even say I really liked! Normally I have like 20 polishes and can’t narrow them down for these posts, but this was the opposite.

Me and yellow don’t get along all that great since I have a lot of yellow in my skin. The best yellows for me are cool and usually pastel, which is why some of these are very similar.

In no particular order, here are my top 5 fav yellows.

Orly Lemonade Vampy Varnish Favs Featuring: Yellow
Orly Lemonade

Of the 5 listed here I think this is probably my favorite one. It’s cool and wasn’t too much of a bear to apply.

Illamasqua Wayward Vampy Varnish Favs Featuring: Yellow
Illamasqua Wayward

Wayward is the only one here with a slightly warmer feel, but not so warm that it didn’t work for me. I have tried some yellows and wanted to BARF they looked so horrid! I have to say that I haven’t tried Illamasqua’s new pastel yellow yet and have a feeling once I do, it will wind up being one of my favs. The application on the two I did try for that collection were like buttah!

China Glaze Lemon Fizz Vampy Varnish Favs Featuring: Yellow
China Glaze Lemon Fizz

Lemon Fizz is practically the same color as Orly’s Lemonade, which is why it’s also on here. icon smile Vampy Varnish Favs Featuring: Yellow I think this was a little streakier than Lemonade on me, but it’s nice.

Color Club Volt Of Light copy Vampy Varnish Favs Featuring: Yellow
Color Club Volt Of Light

Ah ha, we have one that isn’t creme, hallelujah! I couldn’t forget about Volt Of Light, this one is so totally amazing. I am not even much of a neon person, and can’t say that I wear them much. But this one is hands down one of my fav neons ever, and from what I remember, the application was extremely even. I love the blue shimmer flash also!

Sephora by OPI IM Beauty Vampy Varnish Favs Featuring: Yellow
Sephora by OPI IM Beauty

IM Beauty is a very pale lemon yellow that I almost forgot about. I was going through my stash and saw this after a 2nd go-round. I definitely had issues with applying it, it was super sheer and streaky. I think after 3 or 4 coats I got it fairly even.

Sorry for the crappy pic, this is old. In fact I find it kind of hilarious; I have been hearing people complain here and there that my pictures now suck on my site compared to what they used to be. Either those people just like to make negative comments just to hear themselves talk or their eyesight has drastically gone downhill, because my pics FAR surpass what they used to look like! I mean hello, compare this one to Orly Lemonade, doesn’t take a genuis to see the quality improvement!

Ok folks I wanna hear, what are your favorite yellows? Is yellow a color that works well or not so much with your skin tone? I feel it’s one of the hardest colors to pull off!

I love these top 5′s!! My personal fave is Sephora by OPI IM Beauty. It can be a pain to apply, but once it’s on she’s a beaut! And personally I never had a problem with your earlier pictures, but the quality and clarity of your pictures has improved greatly!!! So those people are probably just negative and should just go swallow a rainbow to cheer up :)

Keep the Top 5′s coming, I know they make me happy and excited!! Have a fabulous (well as fabulous as it can be, since it is the worst day of the week) Monday!!

    • Hi Kristen,

      Yay, glad you like ‘em.

Yes my Monday has already started off spectacular; it’s raining and a train was taken out of service causing me to be 30 minutes late. Typical Monday! :D

So funny you posted this…..I was at Sally’s and they had the CG 2/$10 or something like that so I got Lemon Fizz and Heli-Yum. Well, you make it look so nice on, but I had a horrible experience with Lemon Fizz-SUPER streaky. It took me about an hour to get it right and after all that……it was just alright. Orly Lemonade is nice too, what about the brand you swatched recently, that had a nice yellow from what I remember.

    • Hi Leigh-Ann,

Yes they can be super streaky and such a pain! Are you thinking of the Kleancolor Neon Yellow?

      April 12, 2010
  • I was thinking about Orly Lemonade but I have China Glaze Lemon Fizz so thanks to you, I can cross that one off my wish list!

Yeah you don’t really *need* both :)

Swallow a rainbow! I love that!
I only have 1 yellow and I haven’t tried it yet. It’s called School Bus and it’s dusty/soft/muted by Attitude.
I think I remember school buses in the States being brighter but how am I supposed to know?
Volt of Light is almost cheating IMHO as to me it’s kinda green but I need to swallow a bit of rainbow. ;o)

    April 12, 2010
    • Hi Jen,

School buses here are orange, definitely not yellow, but maybe they are different elsewhere?

Yeah Volt Of Light is a yellow/green I suppose. But when I look at it my first thought is yellow. :)

The Orly and the China Glaze are both so lovely, I think those are the only two I could wear with my fair skin. The Sephora one is nice too, but it reminds me of butter, haha.

    April 12, 2010
    • Hi Sonya,

Yes it is a little like butter!

I am a big fan of IM Beauty (Sephora by OPI) – it just takes some patience on my part to apply. Another yellow that I fell in love with last summer is Lite (Sally Hansen HD). I’m not sure if this Sally Hansen line is still in stores.

    April 12, 2010
    • Hi Rachael,

As yes I have that one. It looks terrible on me! :)

Hey, this is so cool! I am wearing Orly Lemonade right now. :) I really like it. Interestingly, my BF really likes this one too. I was late on the same train system as well this morning. Ack.

    April 12, 2010
    • Hi Sky,

Train issues always seem to happen on Mondays, Fridays or when its boiling hot or raining, lol!

    • Hi Jamie,

I don’t have that I’ll check it out!

My favorite yellow is Zoya’s Creamy. It has great coverage and is not too warm or cool.

    April 12, 2010
    • Hi Danitra,

I don’t have any yellow Zoya’s except one. I will have to see what that one looks like, thx!

      April 12, 2010
  • I love yellows! In addition to 4 of your faves (minus Volt of Light, don’t own that one), I also like Essie Funky Limelight, Barielle Lemondrops, OPI The It Color. I can’t wait to try Illamasqua Blow as well! The one thing that annoys me about yellow polishes is that most seem to have some sort of application issue (something about yellow pigment, maybe?)
.-= Sarah R.´s last blog ..Aruba Blue =-.

    April 12, 2010
    • Hi Sarah R.,

Lemondrops almost made it on here, but not quite. :)

Yep every yellow I have ever encountered (and most people it seems) have issues with yellows being uneven. I have no clue what the issue is, but it must be something with the pigment.

      April 12, 2010
  • Awesome!!! This is great. Thanks so much! I definitely think the pastels work best with pale skin. I’m going to look around for Orly Lemonade.

I am loving these top 5 posts – thank you!! My favorite of this five is Lemon Fizz, which I actually own but have yet to try. I’ll probably use it on my toes only. My skin tone is similar to yours, and yellow polishes are not my best colors, but some of them are fun anyway :)

Yellows aren’t really my thing, but I do have the Lemon Fizz. Haven’t tried it yet…yikes, I’m afraid of the streakiness! I like the neon yellow here. I would think a frosty/shimmery yellow could be so pretty. I just got the whole Jessica Daydream collection & am loving the retro-frostiness of those polishes. I wish Jessica had done a frosty-shimmery yellow…like frozen lemonade…or lemon sorbet! I can imagine the polish in my head, LOL.

  • Lemon fizz is deff on my top list also! So cute! I actually just reviewed it on my blog. Anyway, beautiful swatches and good picks!

I love yellow, so thanks for posting these. I have yet to find one that isn’t a bit streaky (usually worse than that), but I still love to try them.

Where can I find Illamasqua Wayward? i want! If I were 15 again I would so put black drops on top of that as a base.

    April 12, 2010
    • Hi nyank,

Sephora.com should have it and if not, Illamasqua’s website. Except you have to pay shipping from England. :)

Yellow is so pretty when you find the right one. I’m inspired to find it. Think I’ll start with Orly Lemonade.

    April 13, 2010
  • I am loving China Glaze Lemon Fizz, it wasn’t quite the pastel colour that I was expecting it to be.

IM Beauty gives me trouble too, but it’s so pretty and buttercup-ish that I’ll forgive anything for that color.

And don’t listen to those haters! Your nail pictures are awesome, and your non-nail pics are even better. You’ve got a really good eye when it comes to photography. :)

Love all the yellows. I have to go with Orly’s Lemonade also. It’s a cool lemon shade. Reminds me of lemon bars also.
