OPI Shrek Forever After Collection Swatches & Review

Happy Friday!!!

Yes this post is very late for me, but I am pretty sure you will like it. :)

I just received the much anticipated OPI Shrek Forever After collection today, and I had to show you!

For once I also included some comparison swatches. This won’t be a regular thing for me because A. I don’t have time and B. I don’t sort my polishes by color so it’s really hard to go through them all and find possible dupes. But I thought you might like to see them for this collex since many of you are eager to see these!

The formula on these was really pretty nice. They were a little streaky when applying but after a few seconds they evened out and leveled out nicely. I used three coats on all of these except one, which is noted below.

Peep out Shrek below!

What’s With The Cattitude?

What’s With The Cattitude? is a pale sky blue creme. It’s extremely flattering for my skin tone and I really liked it. Surprisingly I didn’t have very many blues to compare it to!

OPI What’s With The Cattitude? and China Glaze Bahamian Escape

They look pretty similar in the bottle.

China Glaze on middle and OPI on pointer

As you can see What’s With The Cattitude?, is slightly more pale blue than Bahamian Escape. I don’t have any dupes, yay!

Who The Shrek Are You?

Who The Shrek Are You? is a bright yellow/green creme. I know a lot of people might think this looks like baby barf but I LOVE this color, and it happens to work with my skin tone. I think it’s fabulous but not quite totally unique…

OPI Who The Shrek Are You? and Misa Green With Envy

Dupes perhaps?

Misa on middle and OPI on pointer

Misa on middle and OPI on pointer

Yup, these are most definitely dupes. To my eye there really was no difference between them as far as color. Even the application of these was similar, I used three coats for both. So I say if you already own Misa’s Green With Envy, you can skip out on this one.

Ogre-The-Top Blue

Ogre-The-Top Blue is a bright medium blue creme. This was super pigmented and I only needed two coats. I thought I was going to have 4 or 5 like this but I had a hard time finding anything to compare it to. But I did find something!

OPI Ogre-The-Top Blue and CND Anchor Blue

CND on middle and OPI on pointer

CND on middle and OPI on pointer

CND’s Anchor Blue was the only thing I had that even came close, and you can see it’s a darker shade of blue. No dupes for me here!

Rumple’s Wiggin’

Rumple’s Wiggin’ is a very pale lavender creme. I love everything lavender because it always works with my skin and it’s such a pretty color. Again though I was worried I already owned this, so I searched through my collection and good news!

OPI Rumple’s Wiggin’, China Glaze Agent Lavender, Nubar Lavender

Nubar on ring, China Glaze on middle, OPI on pointer

Nubar on ring, China Glaze on middle, OPI on pointer

These two are the closest ones to Rumpl’s Wiggin’ I had in my collection, and neither are dupes. Nubar’s Lavender is a darker lavender and China Glaze’s Agent Lavender has more white in it and is paler.

Funkey Dunkey

Funkey Dunkey is a fabulous bright grape purple creme. I love this color but felt it was familiar. Turns out this was the one I had the most colors like in my collection. A couple of them were basically dupes for all intents and purposes.

OPI Funkey Dunkey, China Glaze Grape Pop, RBL Mismas, Orly Charged Up

Orly on pinkie, RBL on ring, China Glaze on middle, OPI on pointer

Orly on pinkie, RBL on ring, China Glaze on middle, OPI on pointer

As you can see these are all extremely similar to each other. It might be hard to tell but RBL Mismas was the only one that looked very different. It’s a smidge darker and has more royal purple in it. But Funkey Dunkey is super close to China Glaze’s Grape Pop and Orly Charged Up. The great thing about Grape Pop is it’s incredibly opaque in just one coat. On the other hand, Charged Up goes on really sheer and kind of watery so you need three. There are tiny differences between all of these but for most people I think it’s going to be so close, they won’t want yet another grape purple creme.

Fiercely Fiona

Fiercely Fiona is a soft pale yellow with a little green. I loved this color so much. It’s the most unique of the collection, I think, and flattering. For a yellow I didn’t have as many issues applying it as most others. It was streaky but turned out fine after three coats.

I have no comparisons for this! I literally couldn’t find a single color that even remotely looked like this.

Overall I am extremely happy with this collection even though a few do have dupes. I think it’s a fun and cheery collection and perfect for summer.

These should be available in May!

Ok I wanna know what you guys think about these, let’s hear it!

    Hey VV,

Well, I think I can safely pass on all of these colours. What I am loving is your layout these days (no scrolling down! woot!). I was looking at another blog’s swatches of the grey Nubar collection, and because there were such similar shades I really wished there had been a mini-picture recap at the end, to see them all together. So, ‘yay’ to you for starting that up!

      Hi Caroline,

Apparently a lot of browsers had been showing my site wrong this entire time, so they finally fixed it. :)

  • April 16, 2010

They’re all cremes, so not really any I’d wear. I liked the dark purple the best.

      Hi Phyrra,

Ahh no cremes for you then? I get it, I know a few people who loathe cremes. :)

  • April 16, 2010

I’m a little disappointed, I must say. I hoped we’d see the green of Fiona’s dress and the red of her hair in here, too. Plus a yummy gray like Donkey’s coat and a shimmery purple/pink/gold like Dragon’s scales.

Can you tell Shrek The Third is on TBS right now?

Overall though, I can probably pass on these. Too bad, after my love-affair with the Hong Kong collection…

Love the comparisons for dupes. It really helps b/c there are alot of polish brands not available in my area, and this allows me to narrow down my choices before I order online since I can’t view the colors in person or even test the formulas of the polishes. Ogre-the-Top Blue looks nice, but I luv Funky Dunkey. I already own China Glaze Grap Pop.

  • April 16, 2010

I’d only go for the dark purples. The Orly looks the glossiest to me, so that’s the one I’d pick out of this selection.

I really need to pick up some of these colors! I have similar ones actually that I reviewed (sad, not too unique!)

I love this collection, I’m definitely picking up What’s With The Cattitude? and Who The Shrek Are You?, still undecided about the rest though…

I think I’m one of very few people who just doesn’t really enjoy the whole Shrek phenomenon, however I tried not to let that sway my opinion… I’m most excited to check out Fiercely Fiona – a yellow that isn’t as annoying as other yellows – I like the sound of that!

  • April 16, 2010

Great pics, Kelly! I have been most certain that I needed Fiercely Fiona but your pics make me want Ogre-The-Top Blue too!

I seriously loved and appreciated your comparison pics – helped a lot. Thing is, I still am going to buy the whole collection because…it’s…just….so…adorable! LOL. I have all those polishes you compared them against but I can’t just help myself! I mean, Shrek names?!??! Come on! :)

Hm, the two limes aren’t dupes for each other actually. Misa is a deeper hue and shade than the OPI. I’ve looked at these on ALU as well and I see the same thing. They’re actually very different (explanation below).

In color theory and practice, a shade or hue or value darker is incredibly important. You don’t see artists just saying two greens that seem very similar are the same green. They’re incredibly different. In terms of painting, you’d use the lighter OPI color for dayscapes and the Misa for more late evening, evening or nightscapes. In terms of shading, you’d use the OPI for where the light hits the object and use the Misa color for slight shadows.

As you can see, the two are completely different in an artist’s perspective, which is how I see.

I agree with you in terms of blues and lavenders. The purples are also incredibly very different. Compared to the OPI, the ChG is at least two hues darker, the RBL is three and the Orly is one. If we were to take the idea of shading in an object again, OPI would be the one that would be used where the light falls on the object. From there, you’d carefully shade into the Orly, then ChG and finally, the RBL would be used for the darkest shadows are it’s the darkest hue.

I’s frustrating for me, as someone who considers herself an artist, to read some call two or more shades dupes when they’re very different!

But I must say, yay for OPI for not releasing a red OR a pink in this collection! A collection can work without them!

      Hi Kate & Zena,

I see what you’re saying, but I also think to the average person they will look almost exactly the same. To my eye they are close enough to call them a dupe.

  • April 16, 2010
    Kate & Zena

Whoa, typo, it should read “It’s frustrating…” at the end. I was totally too busy typing and not spell checking!

I really like Who the Shrek Are You? but with my coloring it’d probably look AWFUL. :(

  • April 16, 2010

Oh man… these are gorgeous! I am only iffy about Who The Shrek Are You? just because I wonder how it would look on my skin tone. Great names too!

Thank you so much for the comparisons! You confirmed my suspicions about the Funkey Dunkey dupes.

By the way, I love the mosaic of thumbnails you’ve been including at the end of the swatches. They’re great for comparison and seeing a whole collection at once.

  • April 17, 2010

I loves this collection. I think I love Who the Shrek… and Fiercely Fiona the most. I don’t care if it looks like baby vomit, it’s weird kinda ugly pretty.

aww that’s cool that you went to the trouble of looking out potential dupes! Yeah they’re certainly close enough that you wouldn’t want both, aren’t they… I think it would amuse the life out of my brother though, if I painted my nails shrek-green haha..

I’m definitely looking forward to this collection, and I’m getting the two blue shades for sure. I think I’m also going to need the darker purple (even if it is really close to Grape Pop) and Fiercely Fiona. I’m a little afraid of the strong lime green, but I do have a navy blue linen suit with lime green piping . . . maybe.

Hi, thanks for the swatches! I’ve been anticipating this collection for awhile.. I was dreaming for a pale blue like ‘What’s with the Cattitude’ for a long time.. (maybe it’s the name too, I’m a cat person lol). Anywho, I came across a new Fingerpaints color at my local Sally’s last week called “Blissfully Blue” to kill my lemming until OPI released their collection. I think Blissfully Blue & Cattitude are almost exact dupes, yay, but I still cannot wait for OPI’s release.. I don’t think I can commit to purchasing yet another grape creme, but I do like the blues and the ‘puke’ greens, hehe. I’ll keep stalking my Cosmoprof until they arrive. Thanks again!

Love your additions to this post…the side-by-sides & bottle pics. Very helpful for those of us with large collections to see what might be a dupe (at least to the novice eye!). My favorites from this collection are the pale blue & shrek green. I probably won’t get the shrek green b/c I doubt I’d actually wear it, but I think it looks amazing! I’m glad OPI did this collection. It feels like something different, especially for summer.

How does the light lavendar compare with opi done out in deco? And how does the dark purple compare with opi a grape fit? Those are my top pics but I also don’t want to buy any dupes. Thanks.

  • April 18, 2010

I really appreciate the effort you made in swatching comparisons. The last thing any nail-polish collector wants is to pay good money for a colour that’s a dupe of a bottle already in the collection. You’ve saved me some money, as well as others, I’m sure.

I already saw these on ALU but I was so ready for you to show them! I love them all and it is such a fun collection. I just recently got a few of the Alice in Wonderland colors (I know I am super late on that!) and I love these movie themed sets.

I know this post was probably a pain in the ass but it was awesome. It’s really helpful to have the comparisons. I love this collection but now I can narrow it down to the ones that are really different from other polishes I own.

    Thanks Kelly!

    Hugely impressive comparison.
Oddly though – seeing them all together makes me feel somewhat queasy. I can pass on.
