Kleancolor Neon Collection Summer 2010 Swatches & Review
FRIDAY!
I, for one, am so glad this is the last day of the work week!
Ok so today I have some Kleancolor lacquers to show you. These are the new neon colors for summer and they are all (almost) pretty fabulous.
I swatched some Kleancolor’s before here and here and I wasn’t all that impressed. I remember quite a few of them were really sheer. These however are almost all super opaque in two coats. A few don’t really live up to the “neon” name, but that’s ok, I forgive them.
Check them out below!
Neon Yellow is a sunny color that leans towards the warm side of yellow. But luckily for me not TOO warm, so I can still wear it. Surprisingly, there wasn’t that much of a problem with streaking on this. After two coats it settled down nicely, and was very opaque. I do classify this as neon because it’s really bright, but it’s not like those day-glo yellows you see frequently in summer collections.
None Green is a BRIGHT lime green. I couldn’t capture this right on my camera, it spazzed out. It’s not quite as light as this picture shows in real life. But it’s definitely neon. This was three coats.
Neon Pink is a bright blue-based light pink. Yep it’s uber bright folks, no joke. I happen to love this color on my skin tone. This was two coats.
Neon Aqua is a light swimming pool blue that definitely isn’t neon, and actually was quite sheer. This is my nemesis of the collection. It was WAY sheer and the sun happened to disappear for 30 minutes while I was trying to get a good pic. So I couldn’t get a good pic. Then it smudged. I digress. Anyway, it’s really not very bright and this was three coats. It probably needed like 5 coats to be opaque. A big fat fail for me on this one!
Neon Orange is a warm toned orange. This is another classic neon. I liked it but have so many of these, and I never really wear them for some reason. This was three coats.
Neon Fuschia is a bright poppy pink (doesn’t look “fuchsia” to me). I don’t think this is neon at all, but it’s cheerful and bright. This was two coats.
Neon Purple is a royal purple with SHIMMER! Yes shimmer in a neon creme collection! I was surprised by this when I opened the bottle. Pleasantly surprised. This, ironically, wound up being my fav even though it’s not neon. The shimmer is pink/green/silver and it’s SO opaque and buttery. This was two coats.
Neon Sapphire is a deep yet bright blue. I don’t really consider this neon either and it wasn’t my fav. I think I have a lot of colors like this already. This was a little more sheer than most of the others so this was three coats.
Overall I was way more impressed with these than past Kleancolor’s I reviewed. It seems their formula has improved somewhat, and that makes me very likely to buy more of their colors in the future.
You can find Kleancolor Nail Lacquer on their website here, and they are around $3.50. I have to say the last ones I bought were only $1.50, so these went WAY up, although they are still relatively inexpensive.
How do you guys feel about this neon collection?

These are really pretty!!
How does neon purple compare to Sally Hansen Night Hydrangea and neon pink to Illamasqua Obsess?
Hi CJ,
Night Hydrangea is a little darker and slightly more of a grape purple http://www.vampyvarnish.com/2009/02/03/tracy-reese-for-sally-hansen-spring-2009/.
Neon Pink is VERY similar if not basically a dupe for Obsess. It might be a little more “neon” but both are extremely bright and the same pink. http://www.vampyvarnish.com/2009/09/14/illamasqua-nail-varnish-obsess/
These bright colours are exactly what I need on Friday! Totally bored at work. Yawn!
Hi SannaK,
Glad I could shake things up a bit for you hee hee.
Happy Friday everyone!!! I like these a lot, especially neon pink! I see what you mean with neon aqua….3 coats and still see thru…no thanks. Thanks for swatches and have a great weekend? BTW-are you ever going to do a tutorial on “how to paint your nails?” Yours always look soooo perfect, you use a paintbrush?
Hi Leigh-Ann,
I do plan on doing one, I swear!
Yes I do my clean up with a brush.
Hi lovely swatches! I just wanted to mention that some nbers and Brooke from getchanailsdid said that they were able to find these for a dollar each at dusties. I haven’t found them around my area yet though
Hi colormepinkenblue,
Yeah I don’t have the patience to search around for polish, I am way too impatient for that!
The Orange and Purple are fun colors. I strongly dislike the aqua.
Hi Sonya,
I strongly agree with you about strongly disliking the Aqua, LOL!
I love alot of there colors especially Fashionista which is a dupe for RBL No More War, but there shipping is a little high considering the low price of the polish. I wanted to try only a two shades and shipping is $10.
Hi Danitra,
Yeah that is high shipping for two colors!
These are really pretty!

Hi rmcandlelight,
They are nice aren’t they!
The aqua is freaking me out! Cannot look at that one! I like these, but neons aren’t my thing. The purple is cool, though! Have a great weekend…margaritas for me tonight!
Hi SB_Sweetie,
LOL I know it’s awful. Have fun tonight!
Some nice colors here
I’m not a huge sparkle fan but that purple is gorgeous! It definitely was the most eye catching for me out of the bunch… odd in a pile of neons lol. I really want to like Aqua, I love blues, but that one is just… wrong. The green is really something though ^^
Hi Nicole,
I know, the purple totally stands out like it belongs elsewhere
I love the green, aqua, pink and fuschia – a very different type of neon!
Hi Sandy,
Yeah it’s more of a “bright” rather than retina searing neon!
Great variety in the collection! There’s definitely something for everyone. I’m especially loving that yellow – it looks like it wouldn’t clash with pale skin.
Speaking of yellow, are you going to do a Top 5 (or 10) for yellow polishes? Since yellows can be sooo tricky, it would be helpful to see what you recommend.
Have a great weekend!!
I wasn’t really a fan of Kleancolor either but it seems they may have changed their formula a little when they changed the look of their bottles. I do really like their glitter polishes though. They have them at a beauty supply store in my neighborhood for only a dollar a piece.
Eh, I’m actually pretty ambivalent about these. Then again, I’m not a big fan of neons OR sheer colors.

the green is nice and I would totally go for the purple too!
I WANT ALL of these….errruhh except the neon sapphire. Im a huge neon fan in the summer–Im AA so Neon colors look really nice against my skintone : ) Thanks for the review!!! Off to make a purchase : )
OOoh, I actually really like the aqua. It reminds me of a Zitomer Transparet Turquoise (cellophane?) polish I had around 1998. I think my polish was a dupe of a Chanel polish from that year. I’ve been looking for it forever. My old polish was more transparent and saturated, but the aqua reminds me of a swimming pool. Pretty!
another great collection
That purple is gorgeous!

Only the Neon Purple jumped out at me. Love it.
I like that Poppy. I know it’s not your usual thing, VV, but for those of us a *little* more trad, that’s a gorgeous summer bright.
