Essie Resort Collection for Summer 2010 Swatches & Review
Happy Monday folks!
Today I’ve got Essie’s new collection for summer called Resort. It’s comprised of four fabulous creme colors that are not the usual reds or pinks, yahoo!
The formula on these was pretty darn nice. I didn’t have any stickiness or thickness like I thought I might. They were mostly two coaters also!
Peep ‘em!
Playa Del Platinum is a light taupe/concrete color. I do really like this color although it’s my least favorite of this collection. It us unique to other similar taupe colors we have recently seen, but I think I might be getting bored of those! This was the most sheer one of the bunch so I used three coats.
Splash Of Grenadine is a pink/purple creme. This is a unique color, don’t think I have anything else like it. I like it, I don’t LOVE it though. This was two coats.
Turquoise & Caicos is a turquoise green creme. No it’s not mint. It’s definitely got some blue to it and it is different from all the mints we’ve seen. This is bright, and gorgeous, and reminds me of summer vacations. This was two coats.
Lapis Of Luxury is a periwinkle or cornflower blue creme. You KNOW I love periwinkle blues, they are so darn pretty. This has a hint of purple to it so it’s not a sky blue. This is my fav of the collection for sure! This was two coats.
Overall I am really pleased with this collection. I am really glad Essie is still taking some chances with more interesting colors and leaving those pinks and reds behind.
These will be available in late April or early May.
How do you guys feel about this collection?

I love the last two, so springy and summery! Playa is a pass for me, and Grenadine … eh, I’m sure I have a dupe somewhere! I like the names in this collection too.
Hi Laura,
Yep, the last two are very summery!
great swatches! i NEED all 4…..
Hi crystaliciousss,
Thanks! Great collection right?
Love the turqouise one!
Hi Suzanne,
Do you think you’re gonna get it?
Oh wow, great collection! I think I’ll skip Playa, and Grenadine is similar to a lot of colors I already have, but I’m definitely getting Lapis and T&C. Thanks for the gorgeous swatches!

Hi Susanna,
Yeah I think those are going to be the fan favorites
I think this is a pretty sweet looking collection. I really like Turquoise and Cacios and Lapis of Luxury! Love

Hi Gina,
Are you gonna snag any of ‘em?
your nails are looking great; are they a bit longer? i think they’re all winners, but i think i’ll pick up playa and lapis.
Hi kelliegonzo,
They were a smidge longer when I took these. I try to keep them around 1/4 inch past the nail tip but if I get one tiny chip in one, I cut them all down. I can’t stand having one nail shorter than the rest!
Hey Kelly,
x
I check in on your blog daily – and it’s my fave btw – but this is my first comment!! Just want to put this question out there…why do Essie bring out such small collections? I really want to love Essie, but it’s really annoying when other companies seem to do 6 different colours at least!
Hi Jo,
I have no clue! Collections seem to vary from different companies. For instance Lippmann usually has two, RBL usually has 3, Nubar usually has 8, etc. It’s kinda nice for me though because it’s quicker to swatch!
I think I’m out of step on this one. I actually like Playa and Grenadine the best. A lot. A very lot. And the others. But the first 2 are my faves.
Hi Jen,
Glad you like ‘em!
I LOVE Lapis and T &C. I have to buy those. Wish they were available today. : )
Both of these colors look absolutely gorgeous on your nails, Kelly!!
Hi Carol,
Thank you!
I really like the whole collection. I could probably skip Grenadine, but I’m kind of hoping they’ll put out a set of minis with all 4. I lucked out with the Art of Spring minis, as the set included the three that I actually wanted plus Red Nouveau (and I can always find room in my stash for a good red). Here’s hoping I won’t have to shell out for full size bottles
Hi jamie,
This as a mini set would be fabulous, for sure!
I love Lapis of Luxury. I’ll probably get it. Like you, I just adore that color. Splash of Grenadine is awfully pretty too…
Thanks for swatching!
Hi Sky,
I am always drawn to periwinkle with fabric, paint, polish, clothing, etc.
Your swatches look divine! I like, not love, this collection. Glad the formulas are ok. The “Splash of Grenadine” is probably my favorite, and the one I’m likely to get. I like the blue & green, but sometimes these colors look weird & strangely bright on me. I’m wondering how different the blue is from the one from the North Fork collection (Shelter Island, maybe?).
Hi SB_Sweetie,
You can see from this link where I reviewed those, Shelter Island is sky blue, not periwinkle. http://www.vampyvarnish.com/2009/03/22/essie-north-fork-for-summer-2009/
Gorgeous colors! Want them all!
.-= nihrida´s last blog ..Gosh – Frou Frou =-.
Hi nihrida,
Whoo hoo!
I’m definitely going to get the blue and the green — it seems as if there have been a lot of those lately, but I think these are unique! And I love the coverage I usually get from Essie.
Hi Jamie,
Yeah those two colors were nice and opaque. For some reason I expected them to be thick and sticky but they weren’t!
VV- Thanks for posting that link. I forgot that you might have a swatch to compare the two. I have Shelter Island & though it’s pretty, I don’t really enjoy it that much when I wear it. The Lapis color looks a bit more muted than Shelter Island, so I might give it a go! Thanks again.
Hi SB_Sweetie,
Yes it’s definitely not as bright and has more muted lavender to it.
I like all of them except Playa del Platinum. Lapis of Luxury is my favourite! I like the other two as well. I seriously cannot buy anymore green polishes for awhile though…I just started reading nail blogs recently so my polish collection has been growing but its not huge. Since reading your blog, Scrangie and ALU I have become obsessed with green polish! I already have 10 green polishes and I only have 40 nail polishes total. China Glaze Four Leaf Clover and Wet n Wild Jade were my last green polishes for awhile. (They’re so hard to resist…)
Hi VV,
I love your blog!! I have to ask you a question though – Is there a reason you don’t push your cuticles back? I’ve been doing this my whole life, my grandma taught me to do it when I was like only 4 years old!
HI Lizzie,
I clip them I don’t push them back and have always done that. Wow you were worried about your nails at age 4?
So pretty! I’m really loving Turquoise & Caicos, it’s a gorgeous colour. I need it ASAP!

The last two are by far the best in my opinion. They are colors that I would actually want to buy. They are not boring pinks and reds. It is a nice little collection from Essie. I will definitely be getting the last two!

Hey Kelly! I love the last two of these. I know I’ll be picking those up! Probably will pass on Grenadine but I’m also strangely tempted by Playa Del Platinum! Great swatches

i’m so looking forward to this collection~
BUT, is there any difference btw Lapis and Orly’s Snowcone??? somehow i find them a bit familiar!
Hi wendy,
See my reply to SannaK she asked the same thing.
I like them all…. damnnnnn! I picked the wrong time to do this no buy.

Hi VV! I really like the collection. How would you compare Lapis Of Luxury and Orly’s Snowcone?
Hi SannaK,
Snowcone is a cotton candy pastel pink and this is brighter and more of a pink/purple and nothing pastel about it.
Hmmm… That’s interesting. Orly’s Snowcone looks very blue to me…so one of us must be colour blind

Hi SannaK,
More like one of us (me) is losing their mind, LOL! Sorry I am totally distracted today! You are right Snowcone is very, very similar to Lapis!
Okay, thanks so much. They looked very similar (equally lovely) to me in your pics. After holidays I wasn’t quite sure of my health either because I’m awfully sleeeeeepy today
Take care!
I love these. Such a perfect little collection. I really want them all – there’s nothing I don’t like here at all. Out in the UK in May I believe…

Lapis Of Luxury looks like the color I’ve been looking for spring but failed to find it. *swoon*
Lapis of Luxury is a very pretty blue. The standout of this collection for me. For two coats, the formula looks rich and luxurious – a quality product. I don’t like Playa del Platinum but then I am not attracted to any polishes in that colour range. Looks too much like dirty nails covered in putty to me. The other colours look lovely and I would be happy to add them to my collection.

I love all of them and I will definitely get all of them. the turquoise-green one is my fave of the collection, followed by the blue one. I’m really into those blues and greens and turquoises, I can’t help it
The only complaint I often have to make with Essie is the sheerness. I own quite a few Essie polishes and nearly all of them are so sheer, that I need at least 3 coats to achieve opacity, sometimes more *sigh*
They’re all really pretty. There’s nothing there that I want really bad.
