Barielle High Steppin’ Collection for Summer 2010 Swatches & Review

Friday is finally here, let’s all breathe a sigh of relief!

Barielle’s new summer collection for 2010 is called High Steppin’ and it’s a nice departure from most other collections we have seen so far this season.

This is made up of metallic colors, inspired by the disco era and not necessarily all colors you think of when you think summer. I definitely appreciate that because after awhile the same colors get to be so boring!

These are metallics and as we all know, they have a tendency to be streaky. I don’t have any major complaints here with the formula, just some small ones that aren’t a big deal.

Read on!

Barielle Belly Dance Barielle High Steppin Collection for Summer 2010 Swatches & Review
Belly Dance

Belly Dance is a pale taupe with silver shimmer. This went on pretty sheer, but built up nicely after three coats. I don’t love this one personally, it’s a little too nude for me, but it’s still pretty. Very conservative office friendly I think.

Barielle Slow Motion Barielle High Steppin Collection for Summer 2010 Swatches & Review
Slow Motion

Slow Motion is a pale lavender that leans towards pink on my skin. I had very minor streaking issues with this one, but it pretty much evened out after two coats.

Barielle Freestyle Barielle High Steppin Collection for Summer 2010 Swatches & Review
Freestyle

Freestyle is a cool, light mint with fairly dense silver micro-glitter. This was one of the ones I liked the most because of it’s originality. I don’t think I own very many greens this color and certainly not with the metallic/glitter effect. This was three coats.

Barielle Night Moves Barielle High Steppin Collection for Summer 2010 Swatches & Review
Night Moves

Night Moves is a strong silver shimmery metallic. In fact this was more of a foil to me. This is basically a dupe for Zoya Trixie though, so if you own that already I would say maybe pass on this one. This was two coats and it went on pretty even.

BariellenPassion Piroquette Barielle High Steppin Collection for Summer 2010 Swatches & Review
Passion Pirouette

Passion Pirouette is a grape purple with some silver shimmer running through it. It’s a very unique color, especially for a summer collection. It was on the streakier side, but as I’ve said before, thinner coats help with this issue. This was very opaque in almost one coat, but I used two.

Barielle Electric Boogie Barielle High Steppin Collection for Summer 2010 Swatches & Review
Electric Boogie

Electric Boogie is a deep navy blue with teal, blue, pink and gold glitter. The glitter isn’t packed in there, it’s spread out nicely so you see a lot of the base color. This is THE star of the show ladies & gents! It’s gorgeous, unique, applied opaque & even and is so different for summer. I love it. This was two coats.

Overall I think this is a pretty great collection. I love that these are not pastel, neons or cremes and aren’t necessarily what you think of when you think of warmer weather. I definitely think if you were only to get one of these though it should be Electric Boogie, it’s a stand out color!

These are available online now at Barielle’s website here and they retail for $8.00 each.

How are you feelin’ these people?

The weekend is here!

So any hot plans for the weekend?

I am going to have dinner then see The Runaways tonight with a friend. Can’t wait!

Freestyle & Electric Boogie are my faves of this collection, but I’m not rushing to get them. I do like Belly Dance, too. But I have soooo many nudey, taupey, greigey colors, though, it’s getting ridiculous!

    • Hi SB_Sweetie,

Yeah way too many nudes, I agree!

My vote is for Boogie with a nod to Belly Dance.
Those frosts are simply not good enough.
Thanks for swatching but a very disappointing collection.
Fairly original but not in a good way.

    • Hi sara,

That seems to be the consensus of a few people now! Well it helps your wallet :)

  • I love Electric Boogie and Belly Dance, the rest are just OK. As for my weekend plans? Easterpalooza! I wasn’t interested in seeing The Runaways until I heard an interview with Cherie Currie on the radio. She was so funny, intelligent and down-to-earth, that it made me want to learn more about her. I think I’ll read her book first.

    Enjoy the movie!

These are okay…they are too sheer for me. Freestyle would be nice if it wasn’t so sheer. It is a very unique colour. Electric Boogie is AMAZING and I like the sparse glitter. I’ll probably get that one.

  • Meh. Electric Boogie is definitely a must have for me!

    Hi Kelly,
Your photos are excellent. I read a LOT of nail blogs, and yours is definitely my fave–just fabulous.
I have a question for you. Can you suggest some great baby-blue and/or sky-blue polishes for me? I’ve been looking for a good one for a while now; I’ve bought a bunch, and I still haven’t hit the found the perfect one. It can be shimmer or creme, doesn’t matter.
    Thanks!–(heart)Gena
