Urban Decay Summer Of Love Nail Polish Collection Swatches & Review
Morning!
Urban Decay’s new collection for summer 2010 is called Summer Of Love and I’ve got some special preview swatches to show you!
This is a collection of seven mini bottles of color that reflect the fabled summer of 1969, also known as the summer of love.
The formula on these was really good. A couple were a little sheer so I used three coats, but overall they were pretty great.
Let’s take a peek shall we?
Love Light is a pale champagne/pink with tiny multi-colored shimmery bits. As you can see this is a very sheer color, so I admit, it wasn’t really my type of color. BUT I think it would make a great layering color. This was two coats.
Shine On is a light copper metallic with green and pink shimmer particles. I don’t know what it is about this color, but it definitely looks 1969 to me for some reason and I like it. This didn’t have any streaking problems at all either. This was two coats.
Magic Bus is a very bright, bordering on neon, orange creme. This is definitely one of the three colors I think of when I think of the 60′s (the other two are dark brown and avocado green). This was two coats.
Aquarius is a blue/green shimmer. It looks very mermaid-esque and reminds me immediately of the ocean. It actually looks a lot more green in the bottle than it goes on. It’s definitely a cross between blue and green though. It was on the sheer side so I used three coats.
Psychedelic Sister is a pink/red creme. It was pretty, but not one of my favorites, personally. I think I have quite a few colors like this. This was two coats.
Woodstock is a neon flamingo pink. This is A LOT brighter in real life than this pic shows. This was two coats.
Hashbury is a medium purple with a heavy pink flash. For me this was the winner in the group, though I do have a few others that are probably fairly similar. I just love this combo. Obviously the name is a play on “Haight Ashbury” the famous hippie area in SF and perhaps “Hashish”. Hmmm. Oh and I know a thing or two about hippies, my entire family is full of them from Berkeley, haha! This was also a little on the sheer side so I used three coats.
Overall I think this is a nice little collection. There is a wide range of colors and finishes and I like that they are mini-bottles. That way if there are a few you might not like as much, you aren’t stuck with a whole large bottle.
I’m not sure when exactly this is coming out or the price, but I’ll update this post if and when I hear. Update: These will be available on their website here tomorrow!
How do you guys feel about the Summer Of Love?

I really dig every color, especially Shine on!
Hi Elysia,
Yay glad you like them all!
Happy Monday! I love all of the bright colors and shiny colors (especially Aquarius) but I’ll probably pass on this collection – I feel like I have seen all of these in other collections
Hi Anne,
Aquarius is a really pretty watery looking one.
Hashbury is the only one I like from the collection. Last time I think I liked all the colors. I’m disappointed that they’re only selling mini-collections, as opposed to letting you purchase individually.

Hi Phyrra,
Yeah I can understand that totally.
They will be available tomorrow on UrbanDecay.com! With the rest of the Summer collection!
Hi Kat,
Thanks, just updated the post!
I think this is a happy little collection. That being said, I think there are lots of dupes out there for each polish here. “Hashbury” is almost an exact dupe for $OPI’s “Screen Test.” Still, I’m glad these are something beyond pastel & neon. “Shine On” is the most unique to me, but I’m not sure it would work with my skin tone. Thanks for the swatches!
Hi SB_Sweetie,
Sure thing!
I don’t think this collection lives up to the awesomeness of UD’s old polish colors at all, which is pretty much how I felt about the last collection. I know the company is more main stream these days than it was originally, but most of the other products they have these days still have a bit of that original edge, where their latest venture back into nail lacquer doesn’t have that feel to me.
Yet again I am wishing that Urban Decay had brought back a handful of their original products, in original colors, as a 10 year anniversary collection… especially the polishes.
Hi auroragyps,
I agree. I am REALLY hoping they realize that their original colors are what people are dying to see back! I had a bunch of them but sadly tossed them like a decade or more ago
I am kind of bored & dissapointed … I mean, they’re OK, but 3 pinks, one of which is a sheer? Come on Urban Decay, what happened to “Does pink make you puke?” Maybe I’m just too old that I remember this slogan LOL, but when I think UD I think edgy, interesting – not something I feel like I’ve seen before.

Hi Colette,
Yeah I think they pigeon-holed themselves a bit with that old slogan, haha. People still expect them to live up to it. I think pink can be fine, BUT I would also like to see more edgy “weird” colors in the mix.
I was so excited to see these and now that I have, I’m not impressed. I’m actually pretty bummed. UD use to have the most amazing colors.

Hi Cindy,
Aww sorry you aren’t loving them!
I don’t care about the polish. But the bottles! The script they used!
Why aren’t they HUGE! I would buy them all – just for the bottles.
Back down to earth – A they are mini (no good) B I will never get these in the UK….;o(
HI Jen,
Ha, ha, yeah it is a nice font
I think Hashbury is my favorite!
Hi Jackie S.,
I like the name of it, it’s clever
I would buy most of this collection just for the names! The 1960′s is my favourite time period.
Hi Serena,
Glad you liked them! The names are cute
Oh I thought UD had stopped making nail polish! DO you know if this collection will be coming out in the UK?

Hi Rebecca,
Yeah actually they came back last fall with a set called Apocalyptic, which was pretty great. This is their second set. They do have a UK website: http://www.urbandecay.co.uk/
I would buy this set just because of the names. My parents used to go watch the hippies in San Francisco in 1961.My mother was enthralled by their spirit, daddy, not so much. I always wanted to be a “flower child” but was born to late.
Hi starlight,
Ha, ha that’s funny. I am the opposite, grew up with a bunch of hippies and I am the total opposite of them all!
There’s a lot of these colors that I’m not entirely sure I’m wanting. Hashbury is definitely a color I’d love because of the name, and maybe Magic Bus too. Either way, I’ve never tried Urban Decay and would like to buy these so I can test out their formula.

I really wanted to like these. I only like Hashbury and not enough to buy a mini collection. The packaging is cool and trendy and the name Summer of Love is very appealing. The bottles look fabulous.

I like the names but not the colors. Really aren’t doing it for me.

I like a couple of the colors, and if I could buy them separately, I probably would. Since it appears I have to buy the whole collection, I’ll almost definitely pass because there are several colors I would never wear.
I remember when UD first came out with their polish. This was way, way back and they were in long cylinder bottles. I wish they would release those types of colors again.

What’s the deal with the obsession with the 60′s this spring and summer? Color Club came out with Poptastic and now this.
Too bad they’re all in a set, cause I like 3 of these. Not worth buying all of them for just the 3 that I like.

For me, Aquarius is the star of the collection. Lovely!
