Misa Mardi Gras Collection for Spring 2010 Swatches & Review

Good morning!

Misa is coming out with a new spring 2010 collection called Mardi Gras. All the creme colors in this collection are inspired by the Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans.

Now I’ve never been to Mardi Gras but I have been to New Orleans. From what I have seen of pictures of it though, a lot of these colors are pretty spot on. The formula is another story…

The formula was a huge PITA for me on all but two of these. They were extremely thick, sticky and almost stringy. It felt like putting actual house paint on my nails. The good thing is they were incredibly opaque, but still hard to work with. Not sure what the issue is with these but maybe it was just my bottles?

I am a little disappointed that these were all cremes. I do like cremes a lot, but feel like that’s all we have been seeing from Misa as of late, and I wanted a few shimmers or something different to shake things up.

Anyway check them out below!

Misa Shake It To The Samba Misa Mardi Gras Collection for Spring 2010 Swatches & Review
Shake It To The Samba

Shake It To The Samba is an apricot colored creme. This is a really nice color, but the application was a problem. This was two coats.

Misa Jester Ate The King Cake Misa Mardi Gras Collection for Spring 2010 Swatches & Review
Jester Ate The King Cake

Jester Ate The Cake is a neon yellow. This yellow is definitely on the cool side, not much gold here, which is a bonus for me. However the formula on this was the worst of the bunch. Very thick and streaky. But then again most yellows are. This was two coats.

Misa Blame It On Fat Tuesday Misa Mardi Gras Collection for Spring 2010 Swatches & Review
Blame It On Fat Tuesday

Blame It On Fat Tuesday is a bright grass green. This picture washes it out a little bit, it is in fact a little darker in real life. This was surprisingly sheer on the first coat, but after two was pretty even. This wasn’t too hard to apply, but still not the greatest. This was two coats.

Misa Party In The Masquerade Misa Mardi Gras Collection for Spring 2010 Swatches & Review
Party In The Masquerade

Party In The Masquerade is a neon pink. This is a pretty color, but I think I have others very similar. This was one of the ones with great consistency. It was smooth and even and not sticky at all. This was two coats, but almost totally opaque in one.

Misa Throw Me Something Purple Please Misa Mardi Gras Collection for Spring 2010 Swatches & Review
Throw Me Something Purple Please

Throw Me something Purple Please is a purple/blue color. This is really hard to describe and capture on film. It’s definitely not purple and definitely not blue. I would say it’s a great blurple creme. I think this is probably going to be the fan favorite because it’s unique and interesting. I did wear this one the other day and had some pretty major tip wear after 2 days, which was disappointing. I think it’s because this is really thick and hard to apply. Boo! This was two coats.

Misa Single And Ready To Limbo Misa Mardi Gras Collection for Spring 2010 Swatches & Review
Single And Ready To Limbo

Single And Ready To Limbo is a bright classic red. This was the other one with excellent consistency. Ironic that the colors I think are the most common and least interesting have the best application :/ This was two coats, but could be opaque in one.

Overall I would give this a grade of B for colors but D for formula. Only two out of six applied nicely, at least for me, so I think Misa needs to work on their concoction!

I’m not sure when these will be released exactly, but will update this post as soon as I know.

How are you guys feeling about these?

  • I think we’ve seen these colors before. China Glaze did a better job this spring IMO.

One would never know about the “technical difficulties” you encountered because you did a great application! The colors are fun but I could do without thick, stringy and sticky varnish. I have enough trouble with “good” formulas. Otherwise, great swatches and review-thanks.

  • Oooh, I’ve been waiting for swatches of these! Thanks for posting. :) I’m always interested in the greens, blues (but none of that in this collex) and purple, but Im not sure about these. I usually like my Misas, but I think I may know what you mean with the formula. My bottle of DSM was very thick (but opaque and nice), but I took care of that with the trusty ol’ thinner! Actually, I thinner tweak polishes a LOT… But anyway, would like to know if you have a general idea of how the green compares to ChG Four Leaf Clover? By your description it sounds like it would look a lot like that one. :)

    • Hi Feline,

Four Leaf Clover is more of a teal green, this is more straight grass green with no blue in it. :)

  • I’m loving Shake It To the Samba, but how disappointing that the formulas are so crappy. I’m kind of learning to expect that of any pale creme. I’ve had huge troubles with the Up & Away polishes too, and not just the pastels. Also, even though it’s not the most unique color, Single and Ready To Limbo looks so fantastic on you…

  • Very disappointing… looks very much like Up & Away. While the colors my be Mardi Gras, I don’t think the all-cream look is. If they had done the exact same colors in glitters though, then they’d be selling out in a second! I’m going to pass on all of them :(

Too bad, I was hoping for another Dirty Sexy Money sort of awesome green.

Thanks for the swatches. You have killed my lemmings. I thought I’d need almost all these, but I’m going to have to pass on all of them. Color Club Pucci-licious is also a light blurple so I’ll go for that one. The green one looks like The Grass is Greener minus the shimmer. Nothing very original here, I’m afraid.
Hope you’re feeling better. It’s nice to see that in the mood for swatching again.

Thankfully I’m not really into any of these. The green one is pretty, but Misa is always mail order for me, so it’s harder for them to really grab me if I’m on the fence. Seeing things in a store really helps me with a final decision for “maybes.”

I don’t feel a burning need to buy any of these. And, seriously, Mardi Gras requires some glitter and shimmer! Cremes just don’t cut it.

  • Pretty colors but they don’t seem very unique. Maybe I’ll pick up Blame it on Fat Tuesday, but I’m not sure. Too bad the formula sucked, I’ve always really liked their formula before.

i’m really sad about the formula issues :( i really love/loved Misa’s cremes!!!

    March 15, 2010
  • These are all meh for me. I agree with other posters that a Mardi Gras themed collection needs some sparkle or shimmer! I feel like Misa has not come out with a new line in forever! I was actually beginning to wonder if the company still existed.

  • The blurple is really pretty, but I find that I really don’t like wearing cremes much, either. They tend to bore me.

  • Hi Kelly:

I am so glad your back swatching nail colors again. I hope you feel better. Anyway, I like your six way photos which also show the name of the polish when you move your mouse over each swatch thumbnail photo. I like “Misa Blame it on Fat Tuesday” and, “Misa Throw me something purple please,”(even though it looks more teal blue than purple…) The other one would be “Misa Shake it to the Samba,” Your nails really look gorgeous with that color shade especially on.

what else can I say, your beautiful nails are why I keep coming back and love the descriptions. Kudos. Have a happy polishing Monday afternoon.

    ((((Love Kelly))))

Beautiful swatches, your nails look great. I’m meh on this collection as a whole. Nothing that original here, plus the formula issues are troublesome. We’d all work through formula issues for a unique color, but these aren’t. Thanks for your efforts on the swatching, sorry they were a PITA.

Eh I’ll pass on this collection.

I agree with Jamie that a Mardi Gras theme should be a shimmer and/or glitter collection.

  • They’re nice, but I like the red the most, only cause I’m a red fiend. I agree with Emelie, China Glaze did it the best this spring.

  • For the past few collections, Misa has been putting me to sleep. I agree with you that all we’ve been seeing are cremes. They need to shake things up a bit with a duochrome!

Not thrilled with these at all. Good, I won’t be tempted to buy them. I’m trying very hard not to buy the same polishes over and over. I buy different brands but everything starts to look like the same shades. Nothing very different.

    March 17, 2010
  • Wow. I was expecting so much more from this collection. I think these colors are unimaginative compared to New Orleans and Mardi Gras. I think the yellow and purple, maybe the red – these colors speak to Mardi Gras. But there’s so much sparkle – so much rawness to the city that this collection just falls flat and boring to me. Sweeeet…I will save money!!
