BB Couture For Men Mechanics 101 Collection Swatches & Review
Happy Monday!
BB Couture has recently released a new collection “for men” called Mechanics 101 for spring.
In case you didn’t know, BB Couture has “regular” releases and also collections geared towards men. The bottles are square, the colors are more masculine and the names, of course, are very manly! This is their third collection for men. Of course we know we can all wear whatever we want!
For me this collection has some hits and some that just didn’t go with my skin tone.
The formula as usual with BB was really great, I had not a single problem with any of these and they were all two coats. Read on!
Intake Valve is a pale taupey latte color. It does have very slight gold shimmer in it, which is hard to see here. This is a really nice color and when I’m feelin’ like doing something pale, I can see myself wearing this.
Stick Shift is a bright mustard yellow with a lot of gold and pink and gold shimmer. I absolutely hated this color in the bottle, thought it looked very ugly. But then I saw the shimmer and once it was on, I REALLY liked it! Not sure if it’s the best with my skin, but I kinda don’t care!
Universal Joint is a medium olive green packed with gold and pink shimmer. BB never goes wrong with their greens! I cannot think of another nail polish company that has done this many greens this well. This one is unique compared to all their others, and my fav of this collection.
Drive Shaft is a coppery looking medium pink color with a silvery frost finish. Not my favorite color, it was a little bland for me and I’m not too keen on the frost. It applied very nicely though!
Fuel Injector is a vivid grass green with gold shimmer. Another stunning green, I think this color is so nice for spring! The application on this one was particularly amazing, it was SO perfect going on, almost one coat for complete opacity, but I used two.
Shock Absorber is a bright red/orange shimmer. I didn’t love this one on me either, but it’s a nice color still.
You can find these and all the other awesome BB colors on Overall Beauty here and they retail for $9.00 each or $52.00 for the whole collection.
How are you guys feeling about these?

Hi Leigh-Ann,
You are welcome!
Wow! Universal Joint is stunning, gotta get my hands on that amazing color.
Hi Theresa,
Glad you like it! Ever worn their stuff before?
I’m not sure if this has been covered in the past but I was wondering if BB Couture polishes are Big 3 free.
Hi Virginia,
Yes they are Big 3 free.
I might have to get Stick Shift just for the name!

Hi Alli,
I love the names they always use for these “for men” collections!
These are all quite a departure from the normal “man” colors. Stick Shift is very interesting.
Hi Sonya,
Yep no black or grey to be seen here…
Great.
Love everything except for Drive Shaft. Your pix are always first class.
love the creamy intake valve looks great on you!
You have totally changed my mind on Stick Shift! I just did an overallbeauty order last night…I’m kicking myself now for not getting this!!!!

These aren’t very manly. LOL. I don’t know if I want to see the men in my life with a coppery rose shade on their nails. I tend to think the shimmers in this collection are rather feminine. I would love them for me, but I really fail to see how they would make men feel more comfortable in polish. I mean look at “shock absorber”, it doesn’t get any more feminine than that.
Well, it combines my two passions….nails and cars. I’m loving it! Thanks for the swatches.
I’m really happy that BB Couture is labeling these as “for men”. Despite what others have said about these not being “manly” enough, I think it might be a way for the company to say “You don’t have to be a stereotypical man, and there is nothing wrong with you getting into cosmetics like the women in your life, if that’s what you want.” Because truly, if I saw a guy sporting bright red or green fingernails – I’d congratulate him. It takes a lot of courage to override the various gender-related expectations foisted upon us day by day, and I think BB Couture is ROCKIN’ for targeting men with a collection of nail polish. Way to go, BB!
I’ve never ordered from them before, but after seeing this, I definitely will. I want to support a company that thinks like this.
Lol, we both had the same opinion about Stick Shift. Hated it in the bottle, loved it on the nails!

Oh man, Stick Shift is FUG! To me, that is. Fuel Injector would have been great for St. Pat’s Day!
Intake Valve & Universal Joint are the winners for me here. Beautiful swatches! I can tell it was sunny for you!
awesome! i won universal joint in a twitter comp from kim, it just arrived the other day…i can’t wait to wear it!

:snicker: universal joint makes me laugh, and makes me want it!
I agree. these are only ‘men-names’; not manly colors! Of all of them in this collection, U-Joint is the most wearable by a guy.
