Death Valley – Part I
Hello there.
Today’s post is part one of a two part series of pics of our trip to Death Valley, CA. This wasn’t really a planned trip or a huge amount of fun. It was more of a healing, getting away from the world after our beloved Chase died, kind of trip. Either way, we did have a good time, despite the circumstances.
Death Valley, or any desert I presume, is a great place to find desolation and quiet if you need it. I had never been here before this trip and it was pretty much as I had expected. Very quiet and serene. Hardly any people. It’s the kind of place you DO NOT want to get stranded in! The park itself is 3.4 million acres and 90% of that is total wilderness!
February through April is actually the “busy” season here because it gets so hot in the traditional summer months. In fact the second highest recorded temperature on earth was here in 1913 when it hit 134 degrees, yikes! Luckily for us, the temps were between 65-72 when we were there, which was perfect.
The place we actually stayed at in the park is called The Furnace Creek Inn & Ranch Resort. Down the way they have a huge RV park and little “town” with a general store, a couple cafes and some other small buildings. Even though the RV park was sold out and there were tons of campers everywhere, it was so quiet and not very common that you saw people out and about. That’s how huge this place is.

The Inn has this neat little “oasis” spot with palm trees and a little pond. It was lit up at night and really pretty.

Love your pictures of your trip. Those red colored flowers are gorgeous, you did know I use to work at a floral shop as a floral designer right? Anyway, I love the palm trees, and those Lilly pads are Hugh, LOL Are the fence posts at the Inn where you got your idea for the background of your blog? I love it!
Your in a real castle, with towers and gates, so very cool. Can’t wait for Part II. Have a fabulous day.

It’s so funny you say that. We heard quite a few people at the resort with French accents and I said to N___. why would anyone who lived in Europe want to come here? I guess we all like places different than home!

The death of a beloved family member is always tough. My heart goes out to you.
I really enjoyed seeing your pictures of Death Valley. They are excellent, of course, but I also love and miss the desert. Ever since I’d read about Scotty’s Castle, I’ve wanted to see it. I felt like I was there when I saw your pictures! The wrought iron is striking, so I’m glad you took some pictures of it!

I love the desert. Your pictures are beautiful. My favorite is the “Long Road to Nowhere.” The title says it all. I’m glad you were able to get away. BTW, I’m wearing BB Couture’s “Redwood Forest” right now. WONDERFUL in the sunlight. Perfect for St. Patrick’s Day. Thanks for creating it.

Looks like you had a lovely, peaceful trip out there. I remember going on a family vacation to death valley several years ago when I was younger and just the dead calm of it all captivated me. So sorry to hear about your beloved dog. I send my well-wishes to you.

It’s funny you say that. When we were driving there, which took 9 hours, I was thinking how we flew all the way to England in just 10 hours! So strange how huge California is!

It can be pretty there and your pictures due it justice. Did you get to see the pupfish? I thought that was pretty amazing when we were there that little fish can survive in that small amount of water and heat.

I LOVE Death Valley. We used to do allot of camping there and riding the dunes is really cool! Nice place to collect your thoughts!

Looks lovely. It must have been good to get away to a calm and serene place after a tragedy like that. I had to let my oldest cat go to sleep about 4 weeks ago so I know exactly how you feel. She was my baby even though she was 14 years old and I still miss her greatly.

Yes we drove there and it was a LONG trip! About 9 hours each way, ugh.
