Nubar Sparkles Collection Swatches and Review

Happy Friday Internet!

How are you on this fine day?

Today I’ve got Nubar’s new spring collection called Sparkles. This is a collection of eight colors packed with very fine, sugar-like glitter.

For me, the formula on these wasn’t the greatest. Having said that, I was rushed and didn’t have a lot of time to let each coat dry in-betwen coats. These do tend to cause bald spots and cuticle drag if you apply the coats too fast, and that’s what I did. So I can’t say for sure if it was the polish’s fault or mine or both. But some of these did turn out better than others.

In these pics I started off with the sun shining but literally 15 minutes later it was completely grey and cloudy. So you might notice some pics are darker than others, sorry can’t fight Mother Nature! icon smile Nubar Sparkles Collection Swatches and Review

Oh about removal, yes it’s a pain. Just remember, soak a cotton ball in remover, leave it on your nail for 20-30 seconds then wipe off in one single hard stoke down the nail. Then use the other clean side of the cotton ball or a new one for the remaining glitter so you don’t spread it around.

Now peep em out!

Star Sparkles

Star Sparkles is filled with silver and holographic glitter. What I really liked about this is that the coverage was really great. A lot of times when you have a silver glitter polish, it seems sparse and isn’t very opaque. This is great on it’s own. This was three coats.

Let Them Eat (Cup)cake!

Marie Antionette Necklace Front Let Them Eat (Cup)cake!

First things first. We do all know by now that Marie Antoinette never actually said “Let Them Eat Cake” right? Ok now that that’s out of the way I wanted to talk about this necklace I have. This is another Etsy find from the seller Tickle Me Pink (it looks like her shop is closed at the moment though). I love Marie Antoinette AND cupcakes, so how could I go wrong? Check out the back.

Damask Lamp

Lampshade Damask Lamp

I am all about damask print. I love it so much, its all over the place in my house (but not in a tacky way). On on a duvet cover, on a bulletin board, on my couch and now on this lamp. I saw this while at Target and of course had to own it (it was only $25.00). Was I looking for a lamp? No. Did I need a lamp? No. See that’s the problem with Target, you go in there needing laundry detergent and toothpaste and walk out with a damask lamp, a new pair of Converse,  a really cute striped top, 2 scarves, the 3rd season of Dexter on DVD and possibly even a new Blu-Ray player. The devil’s playground it is!

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Pro Nail Enamel Swatches and Review

Here we are yet again, how are you this fine morning?

I was recently at Walgreens and noticed a new line of Rimmel’s called Lasting Finish Pro. I assume these are all new colors since I have never seen this line (or bottle shape) before. I picked up the four that looked the coolest, but I believe there were 2-4 others as well.

The formula on these was REALLY great! I was very surprised and pleased. I really like the square bottle shape also they remind me of Sally Hansen’s Tracy Reese line, very sophisticated. All of these were just two coats with one exception. Read on!

Steel Grey

Steel Grey is a medium mushroom taupe creme. I really don’t know why they named it Steel Grey, because it’s definitely not a traditional “grey”. Either way this is yet another great mushroom in my collection. Here are some comparisons, in case you are wondering. It’s much lighter and has more of a pink tone than Chanel Particuliere. It has less grey and more pink in it than Barielle Putt-E-On Me. It’s much darker and more brown than Orly Country Club Khaki. It’s a totally different taupe than OPI You Don’t Know Jacques. This one was the only one that was three coats since it was a little more sheer than the others.

Zoya Reverie Spring 2010 Swatches and Review

Hallo mates!

As you may or may not have heard, Zoya has released their spring collection, hurrah! It’s called Reverie and it’s six really cool colors.

I must admit, when I saw promo pics I wasn’t all that excited about most of these. However after seeing them in person and swatching them, I have totally changed my mind. These aren’t just plain old cremes or colors we have seen before. They are shimmery, metallic, gorgeous iridescent/duo-chromes!

You may be asking, what exactly is a duo-chrome or iridescent? I looked online a ton and in dictionaries in my house, and couldn’t find any true definition for the word “duo-chrome”. In fact almost all instances of it on Google were people describing makeup, so I don’t think its “technically” a word. However, iridescent is the same thing as a duo-chrome and that is a word. Iridescent colors “flash” showing other colors when you move them around in different lighting and angles. They produce a display of rainbow-like colors or can be seen as having an “oil-slick” effect. Hope that makes sense!

I think this probably goes without saying at this point but I will anyway. The formula was fabulous on all of these, and they were all two coats.

Laney

Laney is a silver iridescent metallic that flashes yellow/green, very subtly. This picture doesn’t show the yellow/green, but it is there. There was a tiny bit of streakiness with this color, but nothing to really complain about!
