Vampy Varnish Rant/Rave: December 11, 2009

Screaming Monster1 Vampy Varnish Rant/Rave: December 11, 2009

I want to try a new kind of post today called Rant/Rave. It will be housed under this Poppycock section of my blog.

Originally when I re-did the website I meant to have this, but never got around to it. This will be an area where I will mostly be posting quick (or long) blurbs about things (not nail polish related) that I want to either rant or rave about. I thought about starting a whole different blog for this since this is the “real” me, but just never got around to it. Who knows, maybe in the future I will!

I don’t know if you can tell from my regular nail posts, but I’m a fairly cynical and sarcastic person. It’s probably a huge reason why I am such a fan of Dooce, Nothing But Bonfires and Full of Snark. I’m not Mrs. Negativity, but I’m not all about flowers and unicorns either. I try not to let that bleed too much into my nail posts because it’s not really appropriate, but those of you who follow me on Twitter might have seen that side of me. I wasn’t really aware of the distinct separation until a Twitter friend asked me if I was ok because I had been posting some “sharper” tweets. But really, that’s totally who I am, I tend to shoot my mouth off when things annoy me, and if I happen to be on Twitter when that happens, then people see it.

I have become much more blunt in recent years. Probably around age 30 or 31 I became much more comfortable in my own skin, and I decided I’m not gonna waste my time trying to impress others. I don’t waste my time at work making friends with people who I don’t really like, because I’m there to do a job, that’s it. I don’t waste my time trying to still be friends with people who I used to be friends with if we have nothing in common anymore. Life is too short people!

So without further adieu here are some things that bug the hell out of me:

  1. People who steal my pics and use them on eBay or other sites without crediting me
  2. Spitting in public
  3. Crocs
  4. People who act like they are humble and always say “little old me” but really are total braggarts
  5. When people spell “a lot” like “allot” or “alot”

That’s all for now, lest you start revolting and never come back, LOL!

Let me know YOUR rants I wanna hear them!

  • Brilliant! Can’t wait!

Today the thing that got me most was those omnipresent signs people put in their car windows. Like “Small Person On Board” or “Baby On Board”. Like, I WAS going to drive into you and ram the hell out of your car but now I know there’s a baby in there, I’ll think better of it! Or are you just showing off that you managed to procreate?

    Oooh, that’s better.

    • Hi Helen,

Oh yes those signs are annoying. Like we are supposed to be extra careful because of someone’s age. Um, all life is important!

People who sniff constantly when they have a cold instead of blowing their nose. My husband does it all the time and it drives me crazy. I’m constantly shoving the tissue box at him!

    • Hi Alisa,

      That is definitely annoying!

    Pluralizing words using a possessive.

For example: cat’s, 80′s, DVD’s, dog’s instead of cats, 80s, DVDs, and dogs. Argh!

My favorite cartoon about it: http://angryflower.com/bobsqu.gif

It drives me NUTS when people don’t know the difference between “your” and “you’re”. I see someone write “your so funny” instead of “you’re so funny”. Basic grammar people, come on!

    December 11, 2009
  • I hate it when people use the wrong their/there/they’re, or, like suji said, use the wrong you’re/your. Although I have to admit it makes me laugh when people rant about people being stupid and they’re spelling things wrong and using the wrong words. It completely negates their argument!

  • People stealing photos, people who don’t use turn signals, people who say ‘no, my little darling child is an angel, he/she would never do the nasty thing they just did.’

Why be hating the crocs :) !
I do hate the misspelled words.
I hate it when a person prefaces a direct insult with “No offense, but . . . “. Do they imagine their comment is no longer offensive? Such as, “No offense, but your crocs are ugly” Oh, Noes!!

    • Hi Diane,

LOL!! Ok I loathe Crocs because A. they are hideous B. horrible for your feet. Plus my BFF who is an Oncology nurse said a lot of nurses wear them, and they are totally unsanitary (in that situation) because of the open holes. Gross!!

  • This will be a great, and entertaining, addition to your blog!

Here are some of my biggest pet peeves. Most of them are work-related, and if you’ve worked in retail, you’ll understand!!

    -Bad drivers
    -Grumpy and/or mean people
-Customers talking on their cell phone when I’m ringing them up
-Customers that take the receipt from the printer before I can hand it to them
-Customers that throw their money down on the counter when my hand is right there waiting for it
-Customers that obviously look down upon myself and others in my position because of our jobs (we aren’t as ‘high class’ as them because we serve them)
    -Stupid people

Ok, that’s enough of mine for now, if I keep going I’ll start to get grumpy!! lol :)

  • omg Crocs are horrible. Who likes them? Seriously!

People who don’t know how to cover their mouth when they sneeze.
People who clip their nails in public.
People who chew with their mouth open or talk with food in their mouth.

  • Kelly – you said yourself that life is too short. getting annoyed by other’s spelling mistakes? well, I know what you are talking about… I got a high blood presure and shouldn’t gett over excited at all – but still find myself mad about stupid stuff. It’s happening mostly when I drive. Israelis drivers are so bad! (not me ;-) )
I hope I’ll know how to stay clam and cool and not letting stupid things get to me. like you said: life is too short… :-)
