Sally Hansen Special Edition Glitter Nail Polish Swatches and Review

Edit: It has since been discovered that this collection isn’t new (according to a few readers) but old, and possibly from the 90’s! That does explain a lot, LOL. Thanks all!

Dobri ranok (good morning in Ukrainian)!

Sally Hansen released some special edition glitters recently, and one of my readers was nice enough to send them to me! I never would have found these myself because none of the drug stores around me are that great with their Sally Hansen updating.

A word about the formula. It isn’t the best. That’s actually being very generous, it’s pretty awful. Only one of them, Hologem which has a clear base, wasn’t a hot streaky mess. They were very watery, and just plain icky. On two of them the glitter settled to the bottom of the polish so it wasn’t very prominent. These just felt like super cheap rush colors to me somehow. Check them out and judge for yourself.

Sally Hansen Hologem
Hologem

Hologem is a clear base with silver holographic glitter. This was the only one I didn’t have issues with. This was two coats.

Sally Hansen Nuclear
Nuclear

Nuclear is a yellow base with holographic glitter. Words do not even describe how horrific this look on me. It looks like I was in a nuclear war, LOL! This was super streaky and quite frankly, I’m not sure this color would look good on any skin tone. This was three coats.

Sally Hansen Radar
Radar

Radar is a plum/brown/red base with holographic glitter. This was also super streaky and the glitter sank to the bottom so it was very prominent. I really do not like this color on me either! This was three coats.

Sally Hansen Magnet
Magnet

Magnet is a medium blue base with holographic glitter. This too was streaky and watery and the glitter sank to the bottom. This was three coats.

Overall I’m not as thrilled with these as I thought I would be when I first saw them. I feel like Sally Hansen missed the mark completely on them, and I expect better! You can (maybe) find these in your local drug stores where they carry the Sally Hansen brand.

I wish I had seen your review before going to the Dollar Tree yesterday – I picked up three of these glitters there (Hologem, Sonar[green] and Techno [purple]). When I got them home, I figured out the same thing you did about their quality and problems with application. Oh well, at least they were only a dollar a piece.

ok, these are not from a new collection, they are in fact, a rather old, rare, HTF, item(s). I think these may have been released in the 90’s! They are more of a vintage collectible than a wearable polish.

      Hi Taylor,

Thanks for clarifying, some people mentioned that in the comments yesterday. I am so glad they aren’t new because they sure didn’t seem like it! :)

Thanks for the swatches! I do like Hologem, but it’s too bad that the glitter is so sparse in the others and their jelly bases so sheer. You’ve killed a lemming for me, TY!

On a different note, however, I believe those polishes are actually very old Sally Hansen colors rather than a new collection that will be available at drugstores… many girls on the nail board have been finding them at Dollar Tree. Hopefully it’s reassuring to hear that these are older colors… at least SH isn’t putting out a *new* collex with the issues these polishes have!

      Hi keerthamina,

Glad to hear it’s old because that makes more sense! They are just ick-o-la!

I feel as if I SHOULD like Radar. But that is genuinely 3 coats????? Could you layer them over other bases? No. Scrap that idea – even the glitter looks cheap and nasty. Big disappointment. Huge.

I have to say, I find these so ugly. They do not compare to other similar brands with glitter. If you can, I would get the money back ha ha…

Keep up the amazing work. We can’t like every colour I guess :)

Yes, colour has a U in canada :)

Thank you so much for posting these up. Knowing me I would have had to have them all and then been so disapointed after I got them, plus SH aren’t cheap!

Yeah the yellow is bad, too reminiscent of bad staining from an exciting purple or something hahaha… and the glitter is toooo sparse!

Ai yi yi! Although I like Radar, Hologem, and Magnet (as colors), I’m not sure I’d spring for this collection if my Walgreen’s got them in. I KNOW that if you couldn’t pull off Nuclear, I couldn’t either since my skin is even paler than yours. I’m afraid whatever Sally Hansen was thinking when they released these, just isn’t working.

Nuclear is FUG, not because of your skin tone, but in general! The formulas do not look like they are good either, they dried unevenly. Lastly, the bottle is ugly. What is with that purple “special edition” stripe at the top? You’re right, this collection does seemed rushed. Radar and magnet look promising in the bottle, but leave something to be desired on the nail. I hate sounding so negative (I am not a negative person) but these do not excite me at all. I appreciate that you swatched them and gave your honest opinion. :)

China Glaze pretty much set the standard for glitter in jelly bases (and really, just glitter in general) didn’t they?

      Hi Meghan,

Yeah these don’t even remotely compare! The yellow and plum/brown ones are just awful colors I think!
