Color Club Dark Romance Collection with China Glaze Matte Magic

The end of the week is drawing neigh…

Color Club has put out a cute collection of mini matte colors for Halloween called Dark Romance. The polishes on their own are fairly matte or kinda satiny looking, and they came with a matte top coat. However, the matte top coat that was sent turned out not to be matte after all (it was a mistake) so I tried them with China Glaze Matte Magic instead. Funnily enough, I accidentally frankened a cool color, which you’ll see below. Enjoy!

Alabaster

Alabaster is a pure white cream. This was a little streaky but not as bad as some whites. It isn’t flat white, you can see it has a sheen to it still. This was three coats.

Alabaster with the matte top coat is a nice, flat white.

Smoke And Mirrors

Smoke And Mirrors is a silver foil. This is amazing and I love it. This one dried more satiny than matte to me. This was two coats.

Now you can see with the matte top coat it’s much more matte and flat, and it takes away some of the foil effect. It’s like dulled chrome or something, I like it!

Dark Romance is a satiny jet black. This was pretty good coverage in just two coats.

Now is where my accidental “franken” comes in. I made a rookie mistake you see. I didn’t let Smoke And Mirrors dry before I used the matte top coat. So some of the silver flecks from it stayed on the brush, and when I used it on Dark Romance, it came off in the black. I actually think it looks really cool! It reminds me of a really black night sky with just a few stars peeking through. Anyway, you can see how much more matte this is with the top coat, than without.

Overall this is a good collection. Mini bottles are great for when you aren’t totally committed to something yet, and just want to try it out. This collection doesn’t scream “original” to me, but it’s fun for Halloween and you can mix and match and get some cool designs. You can find these at the e-tailers online now.

  • I really have to say I like the china glaze matte magic. I picked it up at Sally’s last weekend and it does a nice job.

I didn’t buy this since I have almost the same colors. Like your franken mistake.
