China Glaze Glitters

Morning party people!

Today I’ve got some of China Glaze’s new glitter nail polishes. They are coming out with FIFTY glitters, if you can believe it. Ugh, I fear I will need an entire new storage cart just for my China Glaze at this point! And I have heard that they will also have some other glitters that are exclusive to Sally’s and not even part of the 50!

In general I am not a huge fan of glitters. I like them (some of them) but don’t LOVE them. I feel a wee bit too old to be wearing a lot of them, especially the ones with huge chunks in them, so I tend to stick to polishes with smaller glitter pieces when I wear them. Another issue for me with glitter is that they tend to be chunky, not smooth and that kind of drives me batty. :)

The formula on these is thick. You definitely need a good 2 minutes drying time between each coat and you will need three coats for all of these for maximum impact. Most of these have different shaped and sized glitter in them. I didn’t show these with a top coat and you’ll see that some look really chunky. A good thick top coat like Poshe or Seche Vite will help smooth them out though. Enjoy!

China Glaze Preppy Pink
Preppy Pink

Preppy Pink is a pale, very girly pink with lighter colored opalescent glitter. I only used two coats here and really should have used three.

China Glaze Carnival Lights
Carnival Lights

Carnival Lights is a raspberry colored pink with a rainbow of holo glitter, some pretty large. This also was only two coats.

China Glaze Ginger
Ginger

Ginger is a coppery/gold color with regular and holo glitter in it. This was two coats.

China Glaze Bad Kitty
Bad Kitty

Bad Kitty is a strawberry colored pink with smaller opalescent glitter pieces. This was two coats.

China Glaze Meteor Shower
Meteor Shower

Meteor Shower is amazing in the bottle, but not as great as I had hoped on the nail. The color is a navy blue and it’s filled with green/gold/copper, etc glitter pieces. However, the glitter kind of sinks into the polish after you apply it so it looks almost covered up. You don’t see the glitter effect as much as I would have liked, but I still like it. This one as also chunkier than the ones I showed above also. This was three coats.

China Glaze Cosmic
Cosmic

Cosmic is a black with multi colored holo glitter. This had the same issue that Meteor Shower had in that the glitter sunk into the black color and you don’t see it much. It kind of just looks like chunky black polish. This was three coats.

Overall I would give these a 7 out of 10 for me personally. I think the light pink colors are too young for me and the dark ones which could have been great, didn’t work so well. However I look forward to seeing the rest of the 44 colors they will have available soon! You can find these ones right now here and possibly at your local Sally’s, and they retail for around $3.50 each.

The “chuncky” Glitter would bug me, I think that it would snag on my clothing. However out of the colors that you swatched above, my Fave by far is Ginger. It is very “Fall” looking. It somewhat reminds me of a pumpkin or the orange colors in Fall…

Excellent review! I think that Preppy Pink is calling my name. I have a slight obsession at the moment with light pinks that have delicate glitter, and I think this fits the bill. In fact, I think this is what I was hoping the light glittery pink in the Milani Welcome Back Color collection would look like, but those glitters are a big mess. So thanks! :)

Wow!!! These are beautiful. I thought I left heavy glitter nail polish back in high school (my beloved Streat Wear’s…..sigh!!!! Wish I hung on to them!!), but I think I’m going to have to reconsider. I’m loving Carnival Lights!!!

I think they all gorgeous. I do have issues with the texture… but maybe it’s ok with a thick layer of top coat.

Not a fan for everyday (for my fingernails), but I think they would be really cute on toenails! Also I think the glitter polish would be cool for a party esp. Meteor Shower and Cosmic

I am really a little too old for glitter polish, and my job isn’t really right for it either, but how can I possibly resist a polish named Bad Kitty? I’ve already ordered all of them except for Preppy Pink, and I just can’t wait to see them!

I’ve never tried China Glaze. I’ll have to check it out. I’m 39 & still wear glitter nailpolish. I never really thought about being too old for it. I still love glitter.

I love all the glitters! I ordered 5 of them from VNS. Also the Color Club Japanese glitter polish. I don’t care how old I am, I will still wear glitter. I decided this year that I am doing what I want and not caring what others think. Maybe i’ll care about what my closet friends & loved ones think. Maybe! I’m going to wear what I enjoy. I’m looking forward to all 50. I can’t imagine what other colors China Glaze will come up with.

    Hi Kelly:

These glitters look so pretty and gorgeous on your nails. I don’t think your ever too old to stop wearing glitter, especially on young woman’s nails. I love the comment Lucy made about the glitters, “…I don’t care how old I am, I will still wear glitter. I decided this year that I am doing what I want and not caring what others think. Maybe I’ll care about what my closet friends & loved ones think. Maybe! I’m going to wear what I enjoy…” As a guy who loves nail polish my fav is “Meteor Shower.” My question would be is, “the more coats you put on, would the glitter be added more and more and how would the look be with all that glitter or not..?” Plus, how would this look with a coat of OPI Matte Nail Envy?

Excellent review as always, another question Kelly, “how do you always have such beautiful nails; and your always smiling which makes my day even happier when I visit you wonderful and amazing web blog?”

      Hi Karen,

Yep, they are a wee bit “crusty” but a nice thick top coat would do the trick :)

I just saw Atlantis… and a few others that were of the gold/bronze-y hue. Atlantis is an aqua green hologram glitter… and it’s pretty cool, tho I tried it on over – ready? – a Wet ‘n’ Wild green called ‘Morbid’ which looks practically identical to Deborah Lippman’s ‘Don’t Tell Mama’… and costs 2 bux instead of 16. Nice. Anyway…. Atlantis is cool, but I could see getting over it quick. I did pick up ‘Lets Groove’ and ‘Cords’… off to paint!
