Duri Rags to Riches for Fall/Winter 2009

Morning ya’ll. Today I’ve got some of Duri’s new fall/winter 2009 colors from their Rags to Riches collection. This is a 12 piece collection that ranges from light pink to dark vampy red.

I don’t have that many Duri polishes, but the ones I do have I totally love. They do a MEAN “lit from within” and have some of my favorite ones. If you haven’t seen them, check out my post here about them.

The formula on Duri polish is really great. They are thin and easy to apply and I rarely have any issues. I do usually need three coats for the lighter ones, but that’s fine by me as I prefer as much opacity as possible. Check them out!

Penny Saved Penny Earned

Penny Saved Penny Earned is a very pretty dusty pink creme with a hint of lavender. I wasn’t too sure I would like this when I saw the bottle but on, it’s actually very flattering. It’s so close to my skin tone that it almost looks like a “nude” on me. It’s definitely got that professional and clean look about it. This was three coats.

Dress To Impress

Dress To Impress is a dusty medium lavender creme. This one was really pretty on me and I like it. I’m not sure if it’s all that original though, we have been seeing a lot of purple cremes lately. This was three coats.

Formula For Success

Formula For Success is a nice deep red creme. It gave me some problems as far as opacity. This was three coats and you can still see areas where it’s not completely even. I have trouble with these kinds of colors frequently, I think that it’s because I am not careful enough with how much polish is on the brush, so some spots wind up darker than others.

Rags To Riches

Rags To Riches is hands down “the winner” here. This is their most fabulous lit from within color of this collection. It’s a jewel colored dark red with gold shimmer that just *GLOWS*. I don’t know what it is, but I could stare at it all day long. This was three coats. Check out the macro shot below.

From what I have seen with this collection so far, it’s a really great one. I like that there is a wide color range and also a range of finishes. Honestly I would LOVE less red/pink and more crazy vampy’s that glow (how about a glowing deep jade green or royal purple?), but we can’t have it all now can we?

You will be able to find these in September on their website here and they retail for $5.00 each.

I’ve never heard of this brand, you’re always showing brands I’ve never seen and then I have to have them… damn you! I love Rags to Riches.

    Hi Kelly:

One of the most striking things about this collection, and the way you presented it that you have gone from a beautiful dusty pink lavender shade to a more even gorgeous shade of jeweled dark “glowing” red gold shimmer. I never noticed that about how you present the lightest to the darkest shade, your nails always so beautiful but you must get 100’s of compliments every day and I wonder if you get tired of them after awhile? I am just amazed at the quality and number of nail varnishes they are, and the cosmetic companies that make them.

Your right, you would think with 258 different shades of reds, pinks and lavender they would have a “glowing” jade green, royal purple, and where’s the “glowing” blues and oranges? These nail varnishes are amazingly beautiful and the price is so low cost for $5 anyone could afford a number of them.

Do you have any tips on how to perfect the “gap” between the polish and your cuticles? Your nails always look so perfectly painted…never an error in sight! Any advice would be much appreciated–I’m newly addicted to polish and need application help!

    Vampy Varnish

    Hi Ava,

What I do is get really close to the cuticle but not right on it, otherwise it creates more of a mess. Then once I am done painting, I go over that area with a small paint brush dipped in remover to clean it up. It works really well and the brush was only like $2-3 at Michael’s craft store! I am actually thinking about doing either a video or picture tutorial on how I paint my nails and what I use to show people because a lot of people ask me that same question.

Ooooohhh….a video tutorial would be AWESOME! Thanks for the reply as I’m sure you’re a very busy gal. I’ll just keep practicing, but any sort of visual aide would be greatly appreciated :)

What a lovely collection of shades. Very pretty. I don’t have any of this brand. I just might have to get some.
