Tweet Tweet Goes the Birdie!
Twitter. It’s an application that a few months ago I thought was a huge waste of time and brain power. Things have changed, I now think quite differently. Dare I say I’m addicted? Perhaps, perhaps.
What the hell IS Twitter?
Some of you may not even be that familiar with Twitter or not “get” it, so I’ll explain. Basically you can send “instant messages” to people who follow you using 140 characters or less. You can also sends links, pics or video. It’s basically a world-wide social messaging application. It’s also known as a micro-blogging site.
Why would I want to join Twitter?
I asked the same thing and actually just planned on testing it out and seeing what it was like, before I got hooked. What I like the most is that I get information lightning fast. I mean WAY before anyone can even publish a blog post or put an article on say CNN’s website, the news is all over Twitter. This also applies to cosmetics news of course! I find out tons of information about new polish collections and brands, etc. How did I find out about Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson dying? Twitter. How did I find out about Illamasqua coming to Sephora? Twitter. How was I able to see the new RBL polishes created by other nail bloggers? Twitter. See, people can release quick posts or pics immediately before they post a long blog article, so it’s really useful for breaking news!
I also really like the social aspect of it. I get to chat with people all over the world about various subjects and it’s really cool! You find out it really is a very small world when someone from Stockholm Sweden Tweets about a local Bay Area band, members of whom I know! I also recently discovered that a fashion blogger on Twitter used to work where I work. Most bloggers now have Twitter accounts, so I keep in touch with them this way, which is great.
One other thing that’s awesome is that a lot of companies are on it as well (nail polish, cosmetic, etc.) and they give inside info too! And a lot of people do Twitter only contests or special discount deals, so you can win cool stuff!
If you are so inclined, you can follow people and not let anyone follow you. In other words, you can “lurk” and just read/view what everyone is Twittering about. You don’t HAVE to actively participate if you don’t want. This can be fun with some of the celebrity Tweets (since they never Tweet back anyway), but be forewarned: a lot of the “celebrities” aren’t really them, it’s someone who’s using their name or possibly their assistants. Also some tend to Tweet A LOT about crap news you might not want to hear about (Ashton Kutcher/Demi Moore for instance). I recently unfollowed almost all celebrities because most just spam everyone with their press crap.
How do I join?
You have decided to join and are now wondering why you didn’t sign up before, aren’t you? Well good news, it’s incredibly easy to jump on the bandwagon and only takes a few minutes. I (probably) won’t join Twitter as I just don’t have the time for it! Between the sites I check daily (many being blogs), doing crafts, making (and going to) appointments to visit doctors/dentists/school counselors, taking care of and walking Zena, school this fall and the thousands of other things, I just have zero time for Twitter.

The reason I won’t join Twitter is that I do not need every second of everyone’s lives LIVE on the internet. I have enough issues with Facebook and Myspace knowing my every move. I prefer to see your big, beautifull, organized pictures of nail polish I am jealous of!… Also the fact you paint them so well helps too! The reason I love your site is that I can either check my e-mail for a short and well done page of the newest FAB polish or browse your blog and look up colors I want to wear for the day. Greens and big chunky gltters are my fave and its hard to tell what they will look like. With your blog I can easily chose what to splurge on and what to skip. I haven’t joined Twitter so far and have no plans for several reasons, the main one being I already do not have enough time for all the internet activities I already have. The very last thing I need is more demands on my internet time.
I also don’t have to be the first to know about anything. I’m really ok with finding out a little later.
I tend to stop subscribing to blogs and other sites that move all their information to twitter. I mean, why bother to read the main site if they’re not going to update it regularly or you have to do MORE to participate? I could use that time for other sites.
Have to say, I found the thought of twitter quite unappealing but I signed up to get access to your tweets and am actually pretty taken with it now – I think I’ll probably do more reading than posting but still lots to keep occupied with.

Surprisingly I last a couple years on MySpace… I don’t need to know that someone is “just gettin’ in, time 4:15 am eating the best slice of pizza I ever tasted” why do I care what someone is doing every second of the day… and why should they care what I’m doing every second of the day?! No, no, no, I’ve put my foot down and decided to stick to blogs and YouTube to learn and find out about things I’m into at the moment.

The reason I won’t be joining Twitter anytime soon is because I have a hectic life. Between taking care of my 20 month old son, husband and cat, working full time and taking a few precious moments to check my favorite websites and blogs I am usually trying to catch up on much needed sleep!

I haven’t joined twitter coz it would absorb me too much and I just don’t have the time. Sounds fun ‘though.
I have a twitter, but I don’t like to use it because I end up having to filter through a lot of messages to find ones that I want to read. For example, I follow the Zoya twitter to find out about news and giveaways, but my feed ends up getting cluttered with responses that are sent to other people. Factor in this happening with about 10 more accounts, and it gets crazy to manage! I don’t know how people do it! In any case, I prefer to just go to the person’s page and filter through their content, because it cuts down on the clutter!
However, I do enjoy using twitter because it’s a way to quickly put out what I’m thinking. I generally use mine to document silly things my friends say, or quotes I want to remember, which generally results in me sending tweets via texts
So in essence, I’m split on how I feel about twitter! I’m definitely more of a blog type, because I feel that if someone took the effort to swatch a ridiculous number of nail polishes and write their feelings about each one, it is definitely worth reading! I’ve been following your blog for a while now, and I really enjoy reading it because you’re always up to date with all the collections that I’m thinking about getting.

I love Twitter. I’ve been Twittering for years and have actually made a huge number of friends in real life that I initially met through Twitter or through other Twitter friends.
I love it for lots of reasons including being able to use it as a time line for my own life (“I remember that night! We had so much fun!”), to see what my friends are up to, and to just generally connect whether it be through companies, new people, or more. It’s a little hard to get used to (“Why does anyone need to know this about me?!”), but once you start using it, it’s awesome.

I have a problem with social networking in a way, because it feels to me like a lot of people are using that instead of real interaction with other people. I think the internet is wonderful for “meeting” and finding new people who share the same interests as you do, or for keeping in touch with people who are far away, but I find that more and more people who I used to actually talk to all the time now just use the internet, facebook, twitter, and don’t physically, verbally, face-to-face interact anymore. It makes me sad. I also work multiple jobs and only have a few minutes here and there to check the blogs I like, or read emails, so it is very difficult for me to keep up on everything online.
I also agree with what several other commenters have said – that I don’t need to know all the little details that many people post. Sometimes Twitter is a great way of finding out information. But sometimes, I don’t need to know that someone is bored and just ate an entire bag of cheetos.
I’m trying to limit my internet contact to the people I wouldn’t otherwise get to talk to at all. But as with everything, ymmv.

I honestly do not get what all the hype over Twitter is all about. Like the earlier comments, I too feel that I don’t necessarily need to know 24/7 about my friends. Call me old-fashioned but I think that face to face contact is always best. (: Facebook, that’s still okay because you do more than status updates.. Oh well. Maybe, just maybe I would come round to Twitter in time to come..who knows?

I joined Twitter a while back but never use it. It’s hard enough for me to keep up with my Facebook account. I work in a retail store so I really don’t have much access to email and personal stuff during the day…so it really doesn’t work for me. If I worked in a office on a computer all day, I would be addicted, I’m sure.

Sorry, I’m not joining Twitter. I’m very old fashioned and just texting is a big let down to myself. I can’t believe I do it as much as I do. I don’t really love technology (or the idea of it) because we love taking all these shortcuts and nobody can take the time to just sit at lunch and just talk with a friend anymore. We have to be doing other things like “oh, while we’re enjoying this lunch together let me work and text my boyfriend”

Twitter is just another thing I need to follow. Twitter has been around for a few years and I don’t like it better now than I did then, which is not like it at all. I only joined to get the deals from manufacturers and bloggers. I feel I was blackmailed into joining.
Not a twitter fan because I can only think of a couple people who I would care to follow, so my account would be a waste

I will not be joining twitter due to a single reason, and that is John Mayer. I am so sick of hearing about how girls are dumping him because he’s a twitter-o-holic, and obviously over-obsessed with himself. Maybe when the fuss dies down I will join, but since John is the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentioned twitter, I will NOT be joining now.

i know that its a nice way to communicate with people around but i just never get the ‘feel’ to tweet…

I love your blog. However, Twitter is not for me because I do not need to know the minute details of other people’s lives.
The reason why I haven’t joined Twitter is that it’s one too many social networks for me. First, there was Friendster (and everyone joined that). Then MySpace (which I skipped), and then Facebook (which I joined after getting a year of invitations). And now there’s Twitter. It’s too troublesome to keep all the social networks up-to-date if I sign up for them all. And there’ll never been an end to new networks popping up in the future. So, why join them all?
I love the concept of twitter and have dreamed of something like it even before I knew of it. However, if I had a twitter account, I would be so insanely addicted, it would not be funny. That being said, I’m sorry to miss out on all your future giveaways, but I must refrain in order to survive. A little melodramatic? It may seem so, but knowing me, sadly true.

The reason I don’t want to join Twitter is that I feel like it really only works well if you have some sort of iPhone, or iPhone equivalent, and can get updates when not at a computer. Otherwise, if I’m already online checking updates, why wouldn’t I just continue reading the blogs and news sources I already do?
