OPI Spain Collection for Fall 2009 – Part I
Happy Monday peeps, hope your week has started off well! Today I have your first look at full swatches of OPI’s Spain collection for fall 2009. There are 12 polishes in this collection and they are all cremes. Well ok that’s not entirely true, three of them (the best three in my opinion) have a very interesting and subtle shimmer but we’ll discuss those below.
I’m feeling like at least 50-70% of these are pretty basic colors that we have seen before. They’re mostly pretty safe and I think there are too many pinks and red/oranges thrown in here. I don’t know, it just seems as though pink and red have been done to death and can’t we do something more progressive and interesting? But having said that, there are some that I really liked a lot and a few that I LOVED. The formula on these was pretty spot on. They were thick, opaque, creamy and smooth and almost every single one was perfect in just two coats. Definitely a plus!
This is part I of this post and I’m showing the six that were my favs and I think will be the fan favorites as well. Enjoy!

Pamplona Purple
Pamplona Purple is a really flattering medium grape creme. This is what I would classify as a pinkish purple. This may not be the most earth shattering color, but I feel it’s very wearable and a great fall color (and summer for that matter) and I definitely will be wearing it. This was two coats.

Ate Berries In The Canaries
Ate Berries In The Canaries is one of two pinks in this collection and this one was my favorite. It’s a medium pink creme that has a bit of violet in it. I love this on my skin and though it doesn’t say fall to me whatsoever, I feel it’s a great color nonetheless. This was two coats.

Can You Tapas This?
Can You Tapas This? is great, right? I LOVE this color and I don’t believe I have anything dupable to it. It’s a milk chocolate colored brown creme with hints of red. I didn’t like this in the bottle at all, it looked plain and boring, but when it was on it totally spoke to me and it’s definitely a good fall color. This was two coats.

Suzi Skies In The Pyrenees
Suzi Skies In The Pyrenees is my favorite of this entire collection. At first glance in the bottle it looked like a really dark blue or almost black. Once on the nail it turned into a super dark charcoal with a very subtle shimmer to it. I absolutely LOVVVVVEEEEE this because it is so close to black, but definitely doesn’t have that “harsh” look that black can have. I used three coats on this to get it fully opaque.

Give Me Moor!
Give Me Moor! is another fabulous dark one in this collection and very appropriate for fall. The color is a really dark burgundy with a subtle shimmer. This says “Vampy” to me, so of course I am loving it! This was three coats for the ultimate opaqueness.

Here Today… Aragon Tomorrow
And finally last, but definitely not least, we have Here Today…Aragon Tomorrow which is the green I think a lot of you have been dying to see. The color is a dark moss colored green again with that very slight shimmer to it. This was my second fav and I think you green lovers are going to really like it. This one definitely needed a good three coats to get it even and opaque.
The Spain collection should be in stores and online the first week of August. Stay tuned for more swatches and review in Part II!

Oh man, I’m SO excited for this collection to come out now! I had seen a pic of that green, not swatched though. But now I’m stoked on this collection… or at least this half of it
You are right on with the fan faves because those are gorgeous!
Wow, I’ve been dying to see swatches on this collex, thanks for posting this.
The three latter colors are my favourites and the ones I’ll probably pick up.
Oh my, i’m really dying to own Here Today… Aragon Tomorrow polish, how i wish they can be available in 8ty8 or transdesign now…
This is great! I like Can You Tapas This. The names aren’t the greatest for this collection, and probably aren’t the greatest color for an OPI collection, but I’ll probably get a few of them, plus a few that I’ve been looking to get for awhile.
Suzi Skies In The Pyrenees, Give Me Moor, and Here Today… Aragon Tomorrow are splendid
Hi Kris,
Oh good I’m glad you’re looking forward to it!
Hi Feline,
You are welcome! I think most of my readers will like the last three the best
Hi sinfulcollection,
It’s a really beautiful green you are going to love it!
Hi Danica,
I am totally with you, I really like Can You Tapas This? and normally wouldn’t go for such a medium colored brown like that. The names do get to be a bit annoying when typing them out constantly!
Hi Yaya,
Yep those seem to be people’s favs and they really are fabulous.
Suzi Skies In The Pyrenees is probably the must have for me.
I like pamplona purple very pretty, I kinda wish here today…aragon tomorrow was a touch lighter so it was a definate green. I feel it will be like all those other colours like Eiffel for this colour, Chanel blue satin and vendetta which just look black.
Thanks for the great swatches and I will be looking forward to the next part!
Wow! I think this first half of the Spain collection will be my favorites. Lately I’ve been fawning for a good green/brown polish to add to my collection. I think I will definitely get Can You Tapas This? and Here Today…Aragon Tomorrow once my Regis gets them.
I’m really liking the first half of this collection. Give me Moor is my favorite. They all look lovely on you. I guess we expect every new collection to really wow us. I can’t even think what they could possibly do that’s different. I think sometimes there the same colors from a very old collection. Just change the name on them.
Pamplona Purple is definitely very wearable, but I don’t think I’ll be buying it (even though it’s so pretty). I feel like OPI has done it before (or at least something pretty close) and I’ve gotten to the point where I’ll now only buy colours that are significantly different than what I already own.
That last one “Here Today…Aragon Tomorrow” looks interesting, but I’m always wary of colours that look really dark because when the light doesn’t hit them, they look just black.
the brown looks to be a dupe of “dark chocolate” by estee lauder… not so great in the bottle, but lovely once it’s on!
Hey Kelly – maybe a silly question but I’ve looked online with no luck – do you know who the Suzi is that OPI names colors for? Suzi Says Da, Suzi and the Lifeguard, Suzi Skies In The Pyrenees… there has to be some significance
Ok, it is clear to me now. I am definitely a “creme girl.” My fave has to be Pamplona.
Hi Amy,
The Exec VP and Artistic Director of OPI’s name is Suzi Weiss-Fischmann (her blog here: http://www.suzisbeautyblog.com/) so I assume it’s her!
Yes, swatches of the coveted Collection de España Fall 2009!
So far, I know I’m definitely buying Pamplona Purple. Ate Berries In The Canaries looks like SH’s Fall color Torrid Bloom. It does remind me of fall though some leaves will turn close to that color pink before turning burnt orange or red here in Illinois.
If only Here Today…Aragon Tomorrow was more green and less…black. It looked greener in the promotional photos!!! Give Me Moor! looks bluer in the promotionals and Ate Berries in the Canaries looked a bit more violet. I loved the promo images of them. It kinda stinks that those three weren’t the versions that they were in the promotional ads.
Yay thanks! How fun!
I have a soft spot for Spain because that’s where El Hub proposed to me… Suzi Skies shall be mine.
Hope you’re having a nice Tuesday!
Hi Karen,
Nice! I would love to visit Spain someday!
Suzi Skiis in the Pyrenees looks really similar to Light My Sapphire, which is the color i’m wearing now. Is there any difference really? I was hoping that Suzi Skiis in the Pyrenees would lean more blue. Unfortunately, I feel a little disappointed.
Hi Annie,
It’s not really anything close to Light My Sapphire actually. It’s a very dark charcoal with not a lot of blue in it. Light My Sapphire is definitely blue and not as dark either. Also there is no silver glitter in this, just a very faint subtle dark shimmer.
I love you and your blog – but please know that “dupable” does not mean “comparable”
You’ve used it several times and it doesn’t make any sense – but I still love your gorgeous blog!
Hi sally,
Thanks, I’m well aware that “dupable” isn’t really the correct word for it, I do have a degree in English.
I love this collection especially the green.
Thanks Kelly for the swatches.
Hi,
Can you advise if Ate Berries In The Canaries is similar to I m Indi-A Mood for Love? I love berry pinks and always end up buying similar ones. Thanks!
Hi Rina,
Sorry, I don’t Have Indi-A Mood For Love!
Gorgeous swatches!!!! I definitely have to get my hands on “Give Me Moor!” and “Here Today… Aragon Tomorrow”, I love my greens and purples!!
Dear vampy varnish I recently discovered your website. I was happy to know that there are others just like me that get excited about nail polish. I have no other choice I have two sons and a husband, nail polish makes me feel girly. I had two questions. First how do you get the privalage of trying these nail polishes before they hit stores? Second question what websites do you recommend for getting good deals on opi nail polish which is my favorite brand. Also am very excited about the spain collection. The dark colors are my favorite and the reds are amazing. Sorry one more question is there a way to get e mails or updates from your website about upcoming nail polishes? Thank you.
Hi lissette,
Oh good, I am glad you found my site!
I am very lucky to be able to try some of the collections in advance because they are press samples.
