My Desk

As some of you may know from reading my blog for awhile, I occasionally like to post non-nail polish related things on here. I thought it might be fun for you to see where I do all my blogging from. I always like knowing what people’s desks look like (and inside of houses for that matter) so I have included a bunch of pics of where I spend an insane amount of time when I am home.

Then again maybe you don’t care, but either way, here you go!

IMG 3852 My Desk

Here’s one side of my desk with my laptop, folder file, radio and assorted junk!

IMG 3853 My Desk

And here’s my main computer and where I am sitting right this second as I type this! I am surrounded by various knick knacks that remind me of fun times or places and I’ll give you close ups in a sec…

IMG 3854 My Desk

As you may have guessed, I got this crown in London. I got it right around the corner from my hotel at the Buckingham Palace gift store. It was the PUUURFECT size for Sam’s huge head, but he will not let me take a pic of him with it on. For a cat that claims he was once known as King Samuel I, this seems like odd behavior. smile My Desk

IMG 3855 My Desk

This is my Jack bobble-head. I love The Nightmare Before Christmas and every single thing Tim Burton does. In fact I would go as far as to say I want to live inside a Tim Burton movie. One year for Christmas, my hubbie took my love a wee bit too far though and got me ONLY The Nightmare Before Christmas stuff! He will never live this down and he knows not to get me any more stuff like this ever again! Gotta love his dedication though wink My Desk

IMG 38561 My Desk

And here of course we have the Sally bobble-head

IMG 3857 My Desk

This is a really cool snow globe featuring a lot of the characters from the movie

IMG 3858 My Desk

Oh yes, can you believe ANOTHER snow globe, this one with a Santa Claus dressed Jack inside

IMG 3865 My Desk

And the mother of all X-mas presents (or so he thought, I was thinking maybe a new Michael Kors bag would be nice) a Nightmare Before Christmas lava lamp. It’s been turned on twice in 6 years because it gets too hot and I’m scared the cats will burn their noses on it or the house will burn down if we leave it on. So it sits dark and quiet collecting dust on my desk

Obviously this is from London. A mini replica of their famous phone booths that has a slot for coins in the top. Fun fact: Most of these phone booths are absolutely FILTHY inside and literally covered with x-rated flyers for “hot dates” and such. If you stood inside that phone booth and looked around, you would swear you were on The Strip in Vegas. No way in hell was I going to go inside one of those for a photo op!

IMG 3860 My Desk

The mini Eiffel Tower was given to me by a friend who went to Paris. Then I have a Pound coin sitting there. Also a super cute business card holder that says “Well behaved women seldom make history” which is a famous quote. Sitting next to that is a little Egyptian cat I got from The British Museum

IMG 3862 My Desk

You know I never understood the NEED for paperweights. I mean who works where it’s windy and their papers are flying all over the place? Even so I saw this one in London with an old London map inside and had to have it

IMG 3864 My Desk

Some very helpful books and some not so much. If you are into blogging I highly suggest reading Problogger, it’s packed with useful information from the experts

This is a postcard sent from Heather Armstrong, AKA Dooce.com. I am a HUGE fan of hers, she is everything I want to be in a writer and photographer. The story behind this is awhile back, she posted a picture of OPI Sweet Heart. I saw it and thought I would send her a little gift to thank her for the hours upon hours of endless laughter and entertainment she has provided me. So I sent her OPI Let Them Eat Rice Cake and Eiffel For This Color. Then I got my mail one day after work, saw this postcard and almost crapped myself with excitement! For me it’s like getting a hand written card from a huge movie star, she’s just amazing. So I immediately taped it above my computer so I can see it and remind myself why I am doing this!

I love your desk! It looks so neat. And those little things really add a personal touch.

What I would LOVE to see though is your stash pic! Haha!

    Hi Belle,

Thanks! I actually did pics of my stash a few months ago, I think it’s filed under the “Random” category. However, it’s doubled since then so maybe I should do new ones!

Cute desk & mementos! Next you need a pic of where you store your nail polish collection! :o )

    Hi Anne Marie B,

I did pics of my stash a few months ago (you can find them under the Random category) but it’s doubled in size since then and since you are the 2nd person who has mentioned this, I think I need to update and post some pics for sure!

Thanks for those photos and BTW, I am SOOOO jealous that Heather wrote you a postcard. I NEVER miss one of her articles. Usually, when I mention something funny I found on Dooce, people just look at me like I’m out of my mind.

Also, please tell me your desk isn’t ALWAYS that neat. Mine is absolutely in shambles.

    Hi Mackenzie,

I talk about her like I KNOW her at home. And I’m always saying to my hubbie “Awww look at Chuck and Coco today” and he’s like “Who are Chuck and Coco?” and I’m like “Dooce’s dogs, hello!” and he’s like “Get over yourself, you don’t know them” hahahahaha!

My desk is always that neat, at work also. I cannot stand clutter and I’m totally anal.

  • Fab photos – I like looking at people’s houses and surroundings too. I am so nosy!

Who needs a Michael Kors bag when there are fire hazards to be had?! LOL.

And you are spot on about the London phoneboxes – no wonder eveyone has cell phones these days. I think it’s because there aren’t many public toilets in London – yuck!

    Hi Helen,

    Thanks!

I was kind of surprised about those phone booths because for Americas, those are like a “symbol” of London so you would almost think they would be in tip top condition and super clean, haha. You actually have way more public toilets there than SF has. We have a few and from what I have seen, it’s mostly bums that use them so no thanks!

Oh geez, you’re a Nightmare Before Christmas fan? That movie cared the living crap out of me as a kid. I was four when that movie came out. I still can’t watch the movie without twitching in fear and having nightmares. Most of the kids at my middle school were obsessed with that movie and The Sandlot so I was not a happy camper. For someone who hates horror movies and thrillers, I love Pan’s Labyrinth. Great movie.

I need one of those crowns for Zena! She’s the Queen of the house.

On the paperweight note, you need to come to the Windy City and its burbs where I live and you’ll understand the use of the paperweight. You don’t dare open your window without having paperweights around or you’ll have paper flying everywhere.

If only I had a desk that big! I have stuff crammed everywhere and yet it still is organized. It’s Autistically Organized (aka I know where everything is and no one else can figure out my reasoning). Maybe I should reorganize it a bit. :)

I never even heard of that blog. I mainly zip between Onsugar (Bella, Casa, Pet and Buzz), Reese Dixon (her son has CP like me ans it’s always a joy to read her unerring support for her son and her crafts are neat), MBB, Scrangie, Nailphile, Doe Deere and you. I actually had to organize y’all into different categories so my bookmarks thingy wasn’t so cluttered! Thank God for e-mail notifications. It makes knowing which site updated so much easier.

  • My 3-year-old daughter Miranda loves Nightmare Before Christmas, and for a while she used to watch it all the time. Of course she doesn’t understand what it’s about- there’s no Swedish audio available, and us Swedes don’t start understanding English until we’re 10. So, every time Sally comes onto the screen, she says “Mom!”. I’m not sure Iif I’m supposed to take that as a compliment… :D

    Fun post! :)

    Hi Kate,

Yeah I love Tim Burton movies. also love horror movies, been watching them since I was about 11.

Dooce isn’t a beauty blogger actually. She started blogging back in 2001 and wrote about people at work (not using their names) and just general things. Then after a year, her company found out and she was fired for it. This kind of launched her into “stardom” in the blogging world. She has a couple books out and is an amazing writer. She even might have a movie coming out about her story (she’s been in the Today Show and all over the place as well)! She and her husband manage her site as well as his and they make a REALLY NICE living off it. Pretty amazing woman!

I may break my anti-Tim Burton movies habit to see his take on Alice in Wonderland. I saw the photos on BuzzSugar and about drooled. I didn’t even recognize Johnny Depp in his Mad Hatter outfit!

  • Your desk is so clean and organized! I’m also a Tim Burton fan – loved Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride.

Thanks for the pictures of your desk. I love seeing pictures of desks. It helps me sometimes with ideas. I love your figurines. Tim Burton is a God! I love all of this movies. I can’t wait to see Alice in Wonderland. It should be fantastic. It would be amazing if someone would do a nail collection based on his movie. Jim Shore also has figures from Nightmare Before Christmas. I don’t know if that’s your style. My girlfriend was reading along with me and said email her about Jim Shore. There also on QVC. I also wanted to let you know that I read all of your posts. I’m not a skimmer. Your too good of a writer to do that to. I hope you just don’t do pictures and no articles. I for one would be really sad.

  • I like your set up a lot. Reminds me that I need to make my “office” space a bit more me rather than just a printer, phone & macbook.

Are you excited about Alice in Wonderland coming out next year? Anything with Johnny Depp I get excited over the pictures that have leaked online have made me look forward to the movie even more.
