butter LONDON Summer 2009

Editors Note: Good news everyone! The folks at butter LONDON have listened to our calls for new caps! They will still be the rectangle design, however they will easily slide off and have a nice long round wand underneath with a little white raven on them. Yay to butter LONDON and Nonie Creme (Creative Director) for listening!

butter LONDON’s summer collection finally wound up in my grubby little hands after months of me wanting to test it out! I am pleased to say I really thought it was pretty great, overall. I am still not thrilled with the bottle cap, however I have discovered that you can remove it if you PULL HARD.

I think I will use this method whenever I want to actually paint my nails because that rectangle cap is really cumbersome! Now onto the pics and reviews!

butter LONDON Muggins butter LONDON Summer 2009
Muggins

Muggins is a very pale pastel lavender creme. It’s a bit on the “chalky” side, but not like the pastel collection from Nubar. Normally I have a hard time with streaks in pastels, but this was pretty smooth going. I only needed two coats to get it opaque.

butter LONDON Cheeky Chops butter LONDON Summer 2009
Cheeky Chops

I think Cheeky Chops might be one of the best yellows ever! This is a super sunny bright yellow creme that leans a bit towards the orange or warm side of yellow. It looked really great on me. It was somewhat streaky at first but nowhere near as bad as most yellows. It did apply thicker than the others also, which most yellows do. I wish someone would explain to me WHY this color is streakier and thicker than other colors, it’s so weird! I needed three coats to get it completely even.

butter LONDON Artful Dodger butter LONDON Summer 2009
Artful Dodger

Artful Dodger is a really great teal that leans towards the blue side rather than green side of teal. Let me say I really could have used a third coat here because you can see some spots where it didn’t fully cover. I really love this color, but there are SO many teals out there now I don’t think it’s “original” anymore. Great application, nice and smooth.

butter LONDON The Old Bill butter LONDON Summer 2009
The Old Bill

The Old Bill took me by surprise in that this wound up being my favorite and I thought it would be one of my least favorites. This one is a fabulous shimmery metallic gold that has a hint of Khaki green in it, which I think is why I love it. The application was not streaky as most metallics are and it was quite opaque. I am really excited about this one folks! This was only two coats.

butter LONDON Blowing Raspberries butter LONDON Summer 2009
Blowing Raspberries

Blowing Raspberries is a very pretty poppy red creme. By poppy red I mean it has a lot of pink in it or as they would say, raspberry. This is super flattering and very pretty. It would make a most excellent pedicure. The formula was creamy and great and I only needed two coats.

I am really digging on this collection but still wish they would change their cap into something more user friendly. Which ones are you groovin’ on?

If interested in buying these, you can find them on their website here and they retail for $14.00 each or you can get this whole collection for $45.00.

  • I have Muggins and wish I bought Cheeky Chops. I ended up adding a bit of thinner to Muggins, but overall I love the colors. Thanks for the tip on getting the top off. I found that REALLY annoying to work with :)

    Hi cidell,

That’s a good idea about the thinner. I have some and don’t know why I never think to use it!

  • Hello! Nonie Creme here, Creative Director at butter LONDON. I want you all to know that I take your feedback very seriously. SO MUCH so, that in the near future you will notice that our cap construction has changed. The new caps/bottles look exactly like the original, but the outer cap slides off easily, revealing a longer wand/inner cap with a tiny white raven on it! Now you have a choice about your grip.

Regarding thickness: Our lacquers are extremely high in pigment. It makes the quality and coverage of the product much more luxurious, fade-proof, and gives that colour richness/depth that you love. Give your lacquer a really good shake before use, or even keep your paler (super heavily pigmented) colours in the fridge to ensure perfect consistency. Heat is a hater on any lacquer!

Thank you for the reviews and feedback. I am here, and I am listening.

    xoxoNonie

I love Artful Dodger and Blowing Raspberries. The names are great! That cap does look annoying. Square caps just doesn’t seem natural, even though it does sleek-ify the bottle. I like round caps, particularly ones that are squishy rubber so they’re easy to open (Orly and SH Salon). OPI bottles can be a pain in the you-know-what to open (even though I love my OPI)!

    Hi Nonie,

Thanks so much for writing and listening to our feedback about the bottles! I am really excited to see the new shape, it sounds fabulous.

I have never tried storing polish in the fridge, but I may try it and see if it makes a difference!

    Thx!

It’s very nice that you got an answer from the Creative Director. I don’t have any Butter London. For sure that the caps are hard to hold while painting your nails. Really nice that the cap will come off. I love the names also. The colors are all pretty. But all the same that I’ve seen before. I’d like to see something else. I don’t know what though!
