Three Rare Greens from OPI & China Glaze
I recently acquired three rare green polishes that I have been wanting for quite awhile. These were all found from different sellers on eBay and definitely purchased at a high-ish price, BUT it was worth it to me. I know a lot of people hate eBay or feel as though they are getting ripped off from sellers on there. For me personally, I don’t see it. People pay for what they feel things are worth. If they didn’t pay it, then the sellers wouldn’t be charging it. Just my opinion though and I am not trying to instigate a comment war! If you Google these, you will be able to find them on eBay as well. Check around though because some sellers have them for $10.00 cheaper than others. Enjoy!

At Your Quebec & Call came from OPI’s Canada collection many years ago, before I was as into polish as I am now, so of course I missed it. Now it’s been discontinued so it’s harder to find. I really wanted this one because olive green is my favorite nail polish color. I don’t know WHAT it is about olive green that I love so much! I have yet to find one that doesn’t look good on me, so maybe that’s part of it. The color is an olive green with a lot of gold in it. It’s got nice light green and pink shimmer as well. The application was fabulous and creamy and this was three coats. This one is still available for a fairly decent price anywhere from $7.50 and on up, depending on who you go through, so get it while it’s still available!

Moonpool from China Glaze is another one that’s been discontinued and is slightly harder to find than At Your Quebec & Call. This is a really great grass green with a major yellow flash and shimmer. It’s really fabulous and I’m so happy I own it. The formula was great and this is three coats. It’s slightly more expensive on eBay, anywhere from $10.50 on up.

The rarest of these three is OPI’s Rainforest. The origins of Rainforest aren’t even known among nail bloggers it seems. No one is sure when it came out and it doesn’t seem to be associated with any particular collection. Very mysterious! When I saw this swatched on MUA I knew I had to own it. The color is a emerald green with lots of fine shimmer. This is three coats. Since this is pretty hard to find, it’s a lot more expensive. It’s on eBay right now from between $38.99 up to $47.95. I refuse to say what I paid because I might vomit, but I will say I paid more for it than any other single nail polish ever and the record holder before that was when Chanel’s Black Satin was on eBay for $35.00! OUCH. But whatever, I don’t do this all the time and I wanted it!
Do you have a lemming for any of these? What’s your MAX $$ limit on any one nail polish color?

Welcome! My name is Kelly and Vampy Varnish is a animal friendly beauty blog.

Hi Kelly,
That is strange that this OPI color just happened to show up! LOL
I love that color.
As far as how much would I spend… Right now I could not justify spending a lot of money for a nail polish. I really wanted the Black Satin by Chanel too, but couldn’t pay the price.
I am glad you are enjoying these polishes.
Happy Memorial day weekend Kelly!
I’m not really into green polishes, but these are pretty. I once saw three bottles of Moonpool on eBay going for $99!!! (I hope you didn’t pay THAT much!) I almost wanted to contact the seller and ask if he/she was serious.
To answer your question, I don’t think I’d pay more than $10 for a bottle, unless I absolutely, positively HAD to have it.
Gold and green aren’t my thing to wear, but I do love to look at everything that’s out there. When I first saw Moonpool, I thought it was really unique and beautiful. Gorg!
For me, right now.. I’d say that max, the most I’d pay is $8. *BUT* If I had lots o’ scratch hanging around though, I’d spend $16 bucks probably a pop if it was something I really wanted :}
Hi! I’ve been a reader for your blog for quite awhile. And I didn’t comment =X but anyways I agree with you. I think if you REALLY want something, no matter the price its worth it. And these colors are gorgeous. Green is awesome!
I like At Your Quebec & Call. I like the sparkle in it!
I’m lemming At Your Quebec & Call and yet I already own it! It is the first polish I blogged about as I adore it sooo much.
Great to see a photo of the elusive Rainforest too.
My OPI DS base & top coats were expensive at about £14 each. I think I paid the same for some of my rare OPIs as well. I have a wonderful ebay contact who is happy to track discontinued polishes for me. She scored me my beloved Route Beer Float, as well as AYQ&C.
I bought At your Quebec & Call on ebay too. I had to have it. I’m an olive lover big time!! It’s my fave. It’s awesome too because it’s not even really green… its like black with gold in it and together it comes out olive. It’s so sweet.
My most expensives so far were Karen and Liberty from KO at $22 a piece, but they also mean something to me because I bout them as celebration for getting hired full time, with benefits and all. So when I look at them I feel proud and accomplished! (And I just wanted ‘em!!)
Of the three I only have Moonpool which I got through a wonderful swap. However, I would say it might be more rare than Rainforest now – there was that resurgence of it down south a few months ago. Many MUAers were finding it in a store down south as I recall… HEB maybe? Believe they also had old Jasper Jades. I think that was back in the December-ish time frame.
Wow pretty! I really like rainforest, it’s weird no-one knows where it came from, I just checked my list of OPI collections and couldn’t find it either. Maybe we should e-mail OPI and ask, and also ask for it to be re-released. I was disappointed the colours I wanted to be re-released in colourcopia weren’t there. I would have loved to get my hands on rainforest, black magic mountain and mystic moonshine.
Did you have fun over here in the UK? I hope the weather was nice for you.
Tell me about it!
My friends practically rip me a new one every time they hear about me paying $28 for Chanel mascara or $65+ for a Guerlain bronzer! *le sigh*
They just don’t get it! Everyone has their vices – if you wanna spend $50 on a nail polish, I won’t call you crazy. Hell, I won’t even bat my Exceptionnel eyelash
I totally agree with you about ebay. The ebay hate speech in some quarters gets completely out of control at times. I too have paid high prices for a few polishes, as some polishes command legitimately high prices based on supply on demand. I love greens as well, especially dark greens.
I am in love with all three of these. you have done an amazing job of showing these colors soooo beautifully. Quebeq got the coolest color of all Canadian Provinces & Terr’s.
I think that if you really really ant something then you will do whatever you have to to get it.
I am a super-duper frugal chick, so the most I will spend at the moment is $10.00 max. my history is i keep finding auxiliary things for cheaper & cheaper = days & weeks after I buy them.. drives me nuts!
i just recently bought at your quebec and call for 4.99 on ebay brand new!
when you finally got rainforest, did you feel it was worth it? my most expensive polish was $20 so far. i don’t use half of the polish i buy cuz i hate the way i polish my own nails =p
After I saw this I had to get At your Quebec and Call, I found on ebay also, its even prettier in person.
I was looking at some swatches of green nail polish on nailgal.com in my search for the perfect shade of green when I found a swatch where OPI Jasper Green and OPI Rainforest were compared. It seems Jasper Jade is from the Rocky Mountain Collection (Fall/Winter 1996) and the elusive Rainforest from the Mystery Collection???
That is going way back in time!
I wasn’t into nail polish then!!!
Hi Elena,
That’s interesting! I wasn’t into polish as much back then either, at least in terms of collections and such.
Hi Kelly,
Loved your pix of London. I went to London at Easter and can’t wait to go back.
Great Illamasqua swatches. Loved the two greens. By the way, have you checked out Nubar’s upcoming collection? There are some greens that are to die for!!! I think I want them all!!!
Rainforest is from the 1989 summer collection.
Hi Lauren,
How do you know that? Not that I doubt you, I just wonder how you found out because I’ve looked online everywhere! Thanks!
