China Glaze Kicks for Summer 2009 – Part II

As promised, here is part II of China Glaze’s new Kicks collection for summer 2009. I didn’t like these quite as much as the first collection. The colors aren’t as interesting and original as I had hoped. I think I am having bright summer polish backlash right now! I am dreaming of dark, creamy, vampy shimmers… It’s funny, I much prefer the weather in spring/summer, but I much prefer the nail polish colors in fall/winter. Such a paradox! Pics taken in sun with no top coat.

Breakin’ was a really nice bright tangerine with yellow shimmer that actually FOR ONCE flattered my skin tone! It was really creamy and nice and I only needed two coats.

China Glaze Laced Up copy China Glaze Kicks for Summer 2009 Part II

Laced Up is a pretty bright medium pink creme. It was pretty, but nothing spectacular in my view. It also had a nice application and was only two coats.

China Glaze Style Wars copy China Glaze Kicks for Summer 2009 Part II

Style Wars is just whatever to me. I am getting really tired of this color, it seems every brand has put out a color like this recently. It’s a orange/red creme and it wasn’t as opaque so I used three coats.

China Glaze Sneaker Head copy China Glaze Kicks for Summer 2009 Part II

Sneaker Head is another one I don’t feel is very original. Been there, done that. It is pretty, just overdone lately. It’s what I would call a bright strawberry red creme. This was two coats.

China Glaze Oh How Street It Is copy China Glaze Kicks for Summer 2009 Part II

Oh How Street It Is is another orange/red creme, this one is less orange than Style Wars but a bit similar. It’s more of a tomato red. This was three coats.

China Glaze B Girlz copy China Glaze Kicks for Summer 2009 Part II

B-Girlz is the only other color I really liked from these six (aside from Breakin’). I am not huge on most pinks, but this one is so pretty! It’s shimmery, leans towards the cool side and has a blue flash that I really like. Great application, I only needed two coats.

What do you guys think, do you like this collection or the first one better? Will you be getting any of these?

  • I think I like the first better. I’m not a fan of cremes. How many orange cremes do you need in one collection?!

Breakin’ would make a a great pedi color. The shimmer is quite stunning. I would love that color to coordinate with gold sandals.

I agree with you on the bright color blacklash! I’ve been feeling the same way and longing for those wonderful vampy colors of fall & winter, but LOVING the fabulous weather. Oh well, maybe I’ll keep the brights on my toes :)

    Hi Phyrra,

I totally feel you, I am SO burned out on orange cremes!. I am just burned out on orange/pink and red in general.

    Hi tarotbydiana,

    Hi Kristen,

I keep looking at my dark colors longingly in my drawer…Then again I am not one to let the weather dictate what colors I wear. I have a vampy as a pedi right now

I like B-Girlz the best, my 9th grade daughter would love Breakin’ – she’s really into the oranges. I liked the first collection better though. Thanks for sharing!

  • How does B-Girlz compare to other pink/flashy blues like OPI Pompeii Purple and Zoya Layla (or is it Lola?)

    Hi Styrch,

You know I don’t have either of those so I can’t really help you. Sorry!

  • I agree with you that these colours aren’t as original. The ones in your previous post with the greens are so much more enticing.

I actually like the first collection better, I have a major thing for blue and green polishes, and all the pinks look the same!

Does Breakin’ look similar to Orange Marmalade? Half of the pinks look like colors they normally sell! Do you agree? EX: sneaker head looks like “rose among the thorns” from INK. lol

And does Sky High Top compare to Zoya Yummy or OPI just groovy? (if you have those?)

    Hi Emily,

Orange Marmalade has the “glass flecked” finish, which Breakin’ doesn’t, so they are different.

Sky High Top has a shimmer to it which (if memory serves) Zoya’s Yummy doesn’t. I think Yummy is a creme.

Have you had any problems with the nail polish chipping on the toes? What is a great top coat for your toes?

    Hi Jenice,

I have not had any issues with it chipping on toes actually. As far as top coats there are a couple I like. Seche Vite, Poshe and Essie’s Good to Go are all super quick dry and very shiny and the only ones I use!
