Zoya Twist Spring 2009 Collection

Happy Sunday! Today I’m bringing you the Spring 2009 collection from Zoya called Twist. I was super excited to get these as there were a couple of them I was really psyched for. They did not disappoint! The formula, as usual for Zoya, was spot on. Creamy, smooth and no bubbles or streakiness. Pics taken in sun (YAY FOR SUN!) with no top coat.

Harley you are so hot! As you know I am a sucker for anything grey and this one really rocks. It’s a cross between grey and silver and it’s super shimmery with very fine particles. I only needed two coats, which is always a plus! It reminds me a little of OPI’s “Sheer” Your Toys, however that one has red particles in it so they are definitely different.

Confessions You Won’t Hear on Other Blogs

It’s confessional time. I want to share with you some things that I am pretty sure you won’t hear on other nail polish blog sites. I am pretty sure of this because these other blog sites tell people to do exactly the opposite of what I do, so unless they are all lying, which I highly doubt, then I am the oddball out!

Confession #1
I have a love/hate relationship with nail polish. I love it because it offers me such an array of wonderful colors and finishes and brands. I love it because it’s relatively cheap and an “easy” fix when you want some sparkle. I love it because you can wear it and reflect your mood at that moment. I hate it because it chips too much. I hate it because it will not stay on my nails looking good for more than 24 hours no matter WHAT I do (except for Zoya with their color-lock system)! I hate it because I am a perfectionist (dare I say anal) when it comes to my nails and the slightest wear drives me batty. I hate it because when I have it on I feel as though I need to be careful of what I do or it will chip and wear faster. I hate it because it makes me feel as though I’m not “good enough” for it, as though its saying “Kelly, you forgot to put gloves on to cover me and now I am definitely going to chip within 12 hours and you are such a bad, bad person”. Ok maybe that’s a slight exaggeration, but you get my drift.

Confession #2
I do not wear gloves when washing dishes, doing household chores or anything else. I know that Katee at e-polishblog might be reading this and wanting to slap me now, haha! I JUST CAN’T DO IT! It’s not that I have an aversion to gloves, I am just too damn lazy. Not only that, I somehow always seem to get water in the glove anyway and then what’s the point?

Confession #3
I don’t use hand lotion or cuticle oil that much.  I DO use hand lotion way more than any other “normal” person I have met. But I can’t seem to put it on after every single time I wash my hands. You see (this might be TMI for some of you, but bear with me) I pee A LOT because I drink a lot of water (and have a bladder the size of a hamster) due to being prone to kidney stones (thanks dad). So let’s pretend that I am at work and pee oh say 8 times. I just do not have the time to put lotion on my hands that many times during the day! Not to mention when I am at home before and after work. That would be like 15 times a day. And let’s face it, I’m not rich either, so unless someone is giving me free stock in Bath & Body Works, I can’t afford to use that much lotion. The same goes for cuticle oil, only triple because that takes way more time to rub in. Maybe you are thinking that I should try using Sally Hansen Cuticle Remover and/or CND Cuticle Eraser? Well I do use them and neither product does anything for me. Maybe I am not using them enough, who knows? So I would guess that I use hand lotion 5 times a day on average and then cuticle oil once or maybe twice a day.

Confession #4
I cut my nails with clippers. Funny thing, I never really even knew I wasn’t supposed to do this until recently. Then I discovered that a lot of nail bloggers don’t clip they only file (with a glass or crystal file). The reason not to clip is because it puts a lot of pressure on your nail and can cause splits. This is a problem I have been dealing with lately actually and I am wondering if that’s why. But even so, I can’t stop the clipping. Filing takes too long and my nails grow super fast. I am however being very gentle when I clip and I start on one side on my nail and slowly move around it in one swoop trying to lessen any possible “fall out”.

Confession #5
I clip my cuticles. Yes you heard me I clip my cuticles. I am pretty sure I just heard Katee scream all the way from So/Cal. Remember how I said I was really *anal* when it came to nails? Well my cuticles happen to grow super fast and thick and there is just no way I can push them down with an orange stick and be done with it. Then I would have giant clumps of skin on my fingers and that’s just not cute. I have to clip them in order to have them look decent. Having said that, I am NOT recommending you do this! It goes against everything everyone says and you can definitely get infections if you accidentally cut yourself or the clippers aren’t sanitized. I am super careful when I do it and I clean my clippers and am the only one who uses them. Kid’s, don’t try this at home!

Basically to sum this whole post up what I am saying is, I am lazy.

What do you think? Are you like me, but afraid to admit it? wink Confessions You Wont Hear on Other Blogs

Dashing Diva Nail Polish

I have recently discovered Dashing Diva polish and so far am liking it a lot. I showed you their new colors last week and after I saw how nice they were, I decided to pick up some older ones and test ‘em out. I only have a formula issue with one of them, which I will talk about below. Pics taken in sun with no top coat.

Dashing Diva Rosario Pistacio Dashing Diva Nail Polish
Rosario Pistachio
This is my favorite one, of course. So it’s not an olive green, but definitely an off the wall, not your average green! It seems like a metallic almost from the pic, but really it has very fine shimmer throughout. The name is right on, it’s definitely what I would call a pistachio green, though it does have a lot of yellow in it as well. This is two coats.

Vampy Varnish Tuesday Poll

Another Tuesday, another poll! Please copy and paste the poll below and reply back to me.

  • What New Years resolution have you already broken? I ate a cupcake like 10 hours into New Years Day. But I will get ahold of myself, I swear!
  • What song are you listening to the most lately? I recently re-discovered Tom’s Diner by Suzanne Vega and downloaded it on iTunes
  • What book(s) are you reading? I am currently reading Photoshop Elements 6 for MAC (fun, I know) and Songs Without Words by Ann Packer
  • What polish is on your tips? Actually nothing, I am using China Glaze Calcium Gel Fortifier
  • What was your favorite polish of 2008? Eekkkk. I think I must say either China Glaze Wagon Trail or Chanel Or De Russie (which are almost the same thing)
  • What are your top three favorite web sites and why? Dooce is my all-time favorite site right now because her writing is great and hilarious and her photography is amazing . I aspire to be like Dooce someday. I am also an avid reader of Go Fug Yourself, again because the writing is fabulous and funny. Right now I am also addicted to Etsy because there are SO MANY cute, cheap, handmade things on here. I could literally spent ALL day perusing the site. And FYI these are just my favs right now, I look at a million sites daily, so it was VERY hard to choose!
  • What is your favorite lip gloss right now? Hmm a cross between Yves Saint Laurent Golden Gloss in Golden Nude and Calvin Klein Knockout
