Hidey ho there neighbor! Today I am bringing you Essie’s Spring 2009 collection. This is a fairly “safe” collection (with one fabulous exception) of creme polishes that overall I liked a lot. There were a couple that I wasn’t totally blown away by but a couple I am very fond of as well. All the colors went on very smooth and creamy and I had no application issues. All pics taken in sun with no top coat.

Eternal OptimistAs you might have guessed Eternal Optimist was the one that impressed me the least. That’s not to say it’s not a good color, but on me it just didn’t work. It’s too “beige-y” and there wasn’t enough contrast between my skin tone and the polish to make it work. It’s a great “work safe” color though (for stuffy offices, yuck) so I guess I can just thank my lucky stars that I can wear ANYTHING I want to work! This is three coats.

FlawlessFlawless is a really nice medium pink that looked good on me, but wasn’t really anything original or unseen before. It’s a great typical Essie pink that will go well with pretty much anything (except maybe the Emo look), so for that I can appreciate it. This is three coats.

Status SymbolStatus Symbol was one I thought in the bottle looked just ok, but when I put it on, I really liked it. The color is most definitely pink, but it’s not your average pepto pink, it’s like a shiny hot pink and it reminds me of Miami for some reason (though I have never even been there). This is three coats and was the runniest of this collection for me, but still applied nicely.

Lacquered UpLacquered Up really took me by surprise. I REALLY liked it! Normally I am not huge on the tomato red polishes because the orange clashes with my skin, but this was really superb. I can see wearing it both as a mani and pedi in the spring & summer. It’s very festive and it makes me want to go on vacation to some island somewhere (MAN is the spring fever kicking in!). This was only two coats.

One Of A KindOne Of A Kind was very similar to Lacquered Up, but this has more of a blue base rather than orange to it. This is kind of a poppy red or classic red creme you would see the movie stars of the 50′s wearing. It went on great in just two coats.

MesmerizeAnd here is the SUPERB surprise of the bunch, Mesmerize. LOVES IT! This was totally out of the blue (haha get it?) for Essie and I really appreciate it! It’s a great creamy blue and what I like the most about it is that it’s not a deep blue like so many other blues out there. It’s just plain ‘ole medium blue and that’s what makes it totally original and FAB in my book! Great Inauguration Day blue, no? This was opaque in two coats.
You can find this collection on Essie’s website here now, so get ‘em while their hot!
I think that Mesmerize is plain boring. It reminds me of Dating a Royal which didn’t impress me at all.
Hi P’ssion Emelie,
Wow really? I rather like it especially on fair skin tones like mine. I don’t have OPI Dating A Royal actually.
I’m very fair too but I just don’t like blue cremes on myself.
Btw, Scrangie just compared some blue cremes.
Can’t wait to get my greedy fingers on Status Symbol and Mesmerize! I love when a new season comes around and there are all these great new colors to choose from.
BTW you have a really cute haircut.
Hi Marianna,
I know I am SO looking forward to more of the spring and summer stuff also! Thanks!
Wow. I think Eternal Optimist could cure my insomnia. It would work better than counting sheep.
In more exciting polish moments, you sure do rock that blue! I need to pick up a bottle of mesmerize too! You really should check out OPI’s Dating a Royal. It’s the perfect blue creme for fair tones. I am uber pale and I love it.
Hi Tarotbydiana,
I know huh, it doesn’t make me optimistic, haha! I keep hearing about that OPI one, I am definitely going to have to get it now, thanks!
Status Symbol looks so darn cute on you!
Hmm…I’m all about polishes that aren’t pink, red, coral, or predictable, but for some reason, I’m not feeling Mesmerize. Most people have fallen in love with it, and yes, it is unusual for Essie to bring that to the table. I think I’d like it more if it was darker or something. And I just wish that they had a nice green. The day Essie churns out a fierce (not safe) green will shake up the polish world!
Hi Atomica,
You are not the first person to say you didn’t totally love Mesmerize though. I really like it because it’s medium blue and I don’t see a lot of that. And I love that it’s a creme also. But I totally agree with you, if they came out with a rockin’ green or teal or oilve I would DIE.
I love the new Essie collection. Bold, fun colors. I bought them all at http://www.beautysak.com/Essie-Spring-Collection-2009-s/646.htm. Great site!
Hi MIchelle,
Thanks for the tip!
